The technician showed up on time and was done in about an hour. The charge for his service was reasonable. On the very next day my boiler shut off and started leaking water in the middle of the night. The technician came back and fixed what he believed was wrong. Then a few days later the boiler started leaking oil. Once again the technician came back and fixed what he thought was wrong. The boiler kept leaking oil. Then the boiler shut off again. My family went without hot water for one day before the technician came back and fixed what he thought was wrong. The oil kept leaking, the technician kept replacing parts and I kept paying Laplante's invoices for their services. This went on for the entire month of May.
The routine annual service ended up costing me around $800 and included five separate visits from their heating technician who, in the end, wasn't able to fix the boiler. Eventually Laplante's had to hire an outside company to come in and complete the work. At no time was I contacted by the owner of Laplante's to see how I was doing or if I was satisfied with the work being done. I had to contact them. In fact, when I called and spoke about my misgivings about their technician's ability I was assured that he was fully trained and certified to work on oil burners. Furthermore, they blamed all the issues on the age of the boiler which is around 18 years old. Again, the boiler had no issues beforehand.
I was recently notified by the Vermont Division of Fire Safety that the technician who did the work on my boiler was not CERTIFIED in the state of Vermont to work unsupervised on oil burners. When this issue was ongoing I spoke with the owner of Laplante's about misgivings I was having about his technician and I was assured that the technician was fully certified. I feel like it is kind of important to ensure your employees are fully certified when working on something as important as a residential heating unit.
I cannot recommend this company due to the seriousness of having workers who are not properly certified. I have also noticed that they remove negative comments from their website.
"This employee was hired to work for us while our main technican was out on medical leave. The technican that we hired showed us his certification and we were not advised of anything else. When we started having call backs due to his work with Mr. [Member Name Removed], we (Laplante's Plumbing) hired an outside contractor that was certified to do oil to do the work for us and we paid the bill. We never expected the customer to do so, as it was our responsibilty to make it right. This employee is no longer with us and we don't do oil as our other technicans are not Oil certified. The other employee has not been with us for almost a year now. We removed this negative comment from our website due to the customer not pointing out the outcome, and that Laplante's did everything they could to rectify the situation at no expense to the customer. We are a licensed company with a outstanding reputation. We always try to provide 100% satisfaction to our customers. In hiring another company to fix it correctly as we don't normally do oil we were trying to give that customer a good experience by showing good faith. I am sorry that despite all our efforts Mr. [Member Name Removed] still is not satisfied."
We called LaPlante Plumbing and Heating for an emergency repair to our boiler (no heat or hot water). It was out first time calling them. Fortunately, they were in the area on another job and were able to fit us in on short notice. We had multiple issues, but they were able to get us up and running fairly quickly before addressing the causes of the problems. They did a thorough cleaning of the boiler (very dirty), replaced two broken/leaking sensors and a clogged filler/back-flow valve, flushed our entire system (I saw what came out, so this really was necessary) and added clean water with a corrosion inhibitor. Since we had the entire system down anyway, we decided to have them install a new indirect hot water heater (the old one was leaking, but not badly) and disposed of the old one. They did not pressure us to do this extra work, just offered. The total cost was $3500.00 for 1 ½ full days of work. They kept us apprised of progress, showed us all their findings so we would know what had gone wrong, and left the area clean and neat. They were polite, friendly, professional, and efficient. We were pleased with the timeliness of the response and the quality of the work. We would not hesitate to use their services again.
I felt that Chuck was knowledgeable, professional and thorough. He spoke in not-too-technical terms so that I thoroughly understood the issue and the proposed solution.
I am planning to schedule the necessary work with this company in the near future!
UPDATE:
Work was scheduled, technician arrived on time, charged for only the time worked. Cost came in under estimate. The area was cleaned up well, too!
I would call this company again for any plumbing/heating issues in the future!
