We have never heard anything from Ray!!! We have been afraid that he would harm the house if we did anything else. It was a vacation home --- we have since sold it. So now we feel comfortable letting people know the kind of person Ray is!

We were able to get a cancellation date very soon after Ray quoted the job. They showed up on time with more ladders than you've ever seen.  Each member of the 5 man crew appeared to know what to do and they went at it with little need for supervision.  They worked steadily all day.All of the crew members were courteous  ("Is it OK if we play music?")Very pleased with the result.Ray called that evening to ask if there were any concerns.

I joined Angie's List out of frustration in trying to find a roofer who would show up and do the job right. I have an older house with a slate roof in Vermont. Slate is wonderful stuff and looks nice -- it was "the durable roof of choice" before standing seam metal roofs were invented (I still think it looks better than metal) -- but every year 10-20 slates crack and break and are pulled off by the snow and ice dams that slide off the roof. Angie's List has paid off for me already.
Ray Gourdeau and his two assistants showed up as promised and worked four days straight, including the weekend of 3-4 December to take advantage of good weather. They worked until after dark on the last day (Sunday 12/4); it's cold and dangerous work on a steep slate roof in winter, and I never found any of them skylarking or goofing off. They set up ladders and scaffolding a few days beforehand. They used my hose and tap for their power wash machine (which was OK, though I wish I'd been asked ahead of time). One hint: if  (a) you have skylights, and (b) if you're having your roof power washed to remove mildew and growth, be sure to have skylights tightly closed before they do the power wash. A small amount of water leaked through, though no damage was done. All in all, I am very satisfied with this company, and Mr. Gourdeau himself was on scene most of the time to fabricate the copper and supervise. He obviously takes pride in his work, and he returns phone calls -- something I find increasingly rare these days. I have called other roofers who never returned my phone calls (Hello? Do you want my business or not???) and I talked twice with one local man who said (twice) he'd come by. That person also never showed up, nor did he call me back. (I will never understand that mode of "doing business.") Gourdeau is old school, clearly wants to do the job, and do it right. I will definitely call him in the future for the inevitable inspection and repair that a slate roof always seems to require. Mr. Gourdeau told me that copper is very expensive these days -- they used a large roll of it -- but he kept to his original estimate.
I checked "N/A" in the price category because I have no accurate idea of what the price should be, but for three men working on a roof over four days, plus materials, $8,700. is probably about right.
In summary: they showed up and did the work they said they'd do, and the price was not "adjusted upward." Totally satisfied.

I called several contractors and they were the first to call back and they came over soon after. They looked at the roof and gave us an estimate and a sample of the roofing material they would use. We scheduled a time but the weather had to be right for the materials. As soon as we had a good warm day they came over and replaced or 11'x11' flat roof in one day. They also extended the drip edge and tightened up the trim. I am hoping to have them come back in the spring to give me an estimate for the rest of the roof. I would recommend them.

When I called Gourdeau roofing I actually got the owner on the phone the first time.  Ray came to my house the next evening after he got done work at some other house.  He was very knowledgable about his job and confident with his crew.  It took about 25 minutes to do the estimate.  I had several other estimate done and most of the prices were much higher than Rays, I immediately went with Ray,  I gave him the deposit right on the spot.  Ray told me he would be able to do my roof in a week, the shingles were delivered within a day.  Once ray and his crew showed up they were all so polite with suitable langauge for my child.  They were very fast and did a great job above and beyond the contract.  They where only suppose to do the main house when I got home my wife noticed the dog house and the shed roof also matched my houses new roof.  when I called ray to see if I owed him for the two extra roofs he told me it was a free be.  So not only did I save $3,800 I also got my dog house roof and shed roof done at the same price.  I highly recommend Gourdeau Roofing to do any roof in Vermont or New Hampshire no matter what time of the year.  The way I got a hold of Ray was his office number 802 584 4787

    Thank you,

He was prompt and came when he said he would. His estimate was fair and competetive. He does very neat work and does not leave a mess. He is just very reliable. I was pleased with Gourdeau and called him back for another job.

Update from 5/14/13 He then however never called me back to do that additonl work.  I have left messages, and I heard nothing. That is the reason why the grades were lowered.

Ray Gordeau responded promptly to my initial inquiry by phone. hew then stopped by my house to provide a written estimate detailing the work to be done and discuss options re materials (i.e., shingle style/colors). He was very professional and personable,  His direct, clear explanation of the work, and providing everything discussed in writing  gave me a lot of confidence in his ability to complete the project on time and within budget.
Rays's crew started the project 1 day after  an initially agreed to date due to a shingle delivery glitch but this did not extend the completion time at all.
His crew arrived on time, and was polite,  hard working, and tolerant of my questions through out the project. They cleaned up at the end of the day and at the completion of the project. While I found a few stray pieces of old shingle and some nails on the ground, a day or two afterwards much as i would following most any project,  so this was not a problem or me..Overall, having simply selected  Ray from among many out of the phone book,  without he advantageof an Angie review at the time, i   feel lucky to have struck gold.on the first attempt. Seriously, i highly recommend Ray Gordeau  and his crew for your roof repair/ replacement  project. I do not think you will be disappointed.
As I told Ray i would be happy to serve as/ provide a customer reference should anyone ask for one so perhaps we will speak some time in the future.
I wish this review had been available when i was looking for someone to do my roof. as it would have added an extra degree of confidence beforehand.
Go for the gold.  Call Gordeau roofing.
  Tom
P.S. I gave price an NA because i did not get many estimates. There my be cheaper providers but unlikely to be of any higher quality.  I did not want to spend a lot of time in the estimate stage and his price seemed in the ballpark based on my experience having same work done on another house in Ct.several years ago, and  knowing what my sister paid for her house in this area recently.
