Highview Construction

About us

We are a small home improvement company who can take a job from a "napkin drawing" or architectural drawings to completion. I have been using the same subcontractors for years which allows for great communication and resolution of scheduling problems to make sure jobs are done right and on time. We are out to make a living not a killing so we keep track of time and materials and the final cost will be the lower of the bid price or actual cost.

Jim is the kind of contractor you are fortunate to find.  A true gem both in workmanship and personality with fair pricing.  The subcontractors he has brought to our projects have also been terrific to work with.

Our master bath was originally divided into 2 spaces. Vanity/sink/dressing table in one part, and toilet/shower in another, with a door separting the two. This made for a cramped space. We wanted to open up and lighten the space. We worked with Jim (owner of Highview Construction) over a period of a few weeks to examine options. He showed us several interesting design options, with estimates for each variation. We made our decision, and work was started soon thereafter. The job went quickly and smoothly, with no hitches at all. A custom shower pan unit was used, on which smooth "pebble" tiles were laid. They're great - we enjoy a foot massage while showering! White "subway-style" tiles were used on three surrounding walls, leaving a large, walk-in opening. It looks fabulous! Removing the door/wall has made the space feel incredibly large and open, and the white tile gives the room a wonderful, light feel. The new mirror and sconce lighting turned out great also. A new, higher capacity exhaust fan was also installed, resulting in less moisture after a long, hot shower. We couldn't be happier with the result. The craftmanship is first rate. Jim and crew are always pleasant, and they take special care to maintain a clean workplace. Our master bath is upstairs, and they laid canvas from the front door, up the stairs, on into the master bath. Overall, a great result. We would highly recommend Highview Construction for any remodeling task.

The main entry into our house has always consisted of just the front door at the top of the stone steps - no shelter above. We decided that it was time to construct a covered entry, as well as replace the front door with a more efficient model. We received a few estimates, though we had in mind to hire Highview because we had had a chance to see several of their completed projects for others. We met with Jim and gave him an overview of what we were looking for, and he had several good suggestions which in the end made the entry way look like it had always been a part of our house, as well as saving us some money to boot! For example, we had in mind to have a "barrel" look for the underside of the roof (i.e., arched with thin wood strips). Jim suggested a more faceted shape, which was considerably cheaper and had the advantage of making the overhead light simpler to install and look better. We couldn't be more pleased with the final result! The entry looks as if it was part of the original construction. The workmanship is great, it was done on time, and just about right on target for final cost. One nice thing about the cost is that Jim gives an estimate, and then will charge the LOWER of this estimate, or the actual time/material cost. In this case, it was within $50.
