Durning the summer of 2010 extensive work was done on our house in Shelburne Vermont by Beagle Builders. The work included residing the house, a new metal roof and replacing many windows. The upstairs windows include two casement windows and two bay windows. Downstairs there were five new casement windows. The siding installed is mahogany clapboard which was recommended by Beagle Builders as being long lasting and maintenance free (with re-staining every 10 year or so). The wood was prepared by staining/sealing both sides before installation. The new roof is metal. Within two months of the work being finished we noticed black streaks running down the clapboards on both sides of the entry way coming from the bottom of the roof. Mr. Durand was called and came to inspect. He had 'no idea' why there would be black, gummy residue leaking from the roof down the wood, nor did Mr. Durand offer any assistance in repairing or troubleshooting the black streaks. In February after the first significant snow storm, the back chimney had been sheared off the house. The clamps securing the chimney to the house had never been replaced after the new siding had been installed. The chimney, which had been built in the summer of 1992, was cement brick and fully lined. While re-staining the house in June, which I had been told would need to be done, we noticed that none of the trim around the new windows on the ground floor were set flush to the wall allowing water to get down into the casements. We also observed that the staples holding the clapboards were starting to rust and staining the wood. In several areas, the clapboards are starting to have a heavy, black mold. The chimney was replaced by our insurance, but there is still roof damage by the eves where the chimney pulled off. We have also had the downstairs windows repaired and reseated into the wall. Beagle Builders was again contacted to see the window installation problem, and he commented after observing the obviously poor installation that 'heads would roll', meaning that his employee was responsible. He told me that he would cover the cost of the repairs to the windows and "the check would be in the mail". No check has been received. I have had several builders come and assess the house. Their consensus is that the staples were not stainless steel, which they should have been, but that staples should not have been used in the first place and never recommended for wood siding (stainless screws ARE recommended in areas that this type of wood would be used). The black leakage is from a combination of the wrap which was placed around the windows and doors and the rust. They also said that as the staples continued to rust, the siding would start to fall off of the house and would need to be replaced. One of the builders went to where Beagle Builders claims to have bought the siding. To be told by their specialist that Mahogany is not sold in this area because it does not hold up it our weather. We have no idea where it came from and Mr. Durand is not forthcoming with any invoice. The mahogany was recommended by Beagle Builders over the cement board we had originally contracted to use. We expected competent recommendations and quality work which was funded in part by refinancing our home. Now we have an inexcusable mess and work that is sub par by any standard. We stand to loose our investment in our home because of this incompetent job which will need to be addressed immediately.

Run away.. please.
What may seem to be professional isn't always as it appears. Thanks to Beagle Builders, I have two houses that are sub-par on anyones level. These guys have no clue what materials are appropriate for a job. They might build a barn that may last, but don't let them NEAR your home. Please ask me.. phone me, I have pictures and documentation I would be happy to share. Do your homework, do not hire an LLC to do any work for you. Limited Liability.. is just that. Your house falls down? too bad. An LLC only works for the business- Not you. I made the most costly mistake with these guys that one can make. I did my homework and checked the BBB, Angies List and the Builders association. It all comes down to pride of work (they have none), and that LLC. I will be happy to share ALL the gory details and pictures.
