This was done so long ago I don't remember any details.  I don't remember any extremely bad experiences so I'll assume we were at least minimally qualified with the service.

What they did was OK, but it still didn't really fix the problem. He was the only one who called and say when he would be in this area. I did like that. His price was within the going rate. He was pretty much on time and they were fine. They asked about what we needed to have done and we showed them.

He worked out good. He was right on time, pleasant and he told me what was wrong. He let me know what he was going to do and he did it. It was excellent work and I would not mind having him back again.

I can't remember all the details from last year's visit but Tom was late for the appointment and I remember thinking I wouldn't recommend this service or the package I purchased through Angie's list to anyone. I felt it wasn't worth the money.

I had to book several different dates for this service due to the service man not showing up. Once he did show up he did not perform repairs to the standard I would have expected. He did not prep the area or clean up the debris after completion.

Toms Handyman did a great job. You can't beat the price. It took them a little while to get to me but he finally did because of the deal, he had a lot of responses. They were great.

The team was prompt and on time as scheduled but several windows were still letting air pass. Additionally, one door was not properly sealed and we could still see light coming in from around the doors. Weatherstripping was standard stuff purchased at Home Depot/Lowes and was not even installed correctly.
After contacting them they were very responsive and did come out and correct the issues, however I would not use them again as the level of attention and quality of work was poor.

I was given an estimate for the removal of wallpaper, very light trim
work, and painting of our dining room (14x14) and was provided an
estimate of about $1800 from a local painter. I saw Tom's Handyman
service here on angie's list and remembered Tom from a job he did for me
about 10 years ago. I was able to track him down and he came the next
day to give me an estimate...$650...I said when can you start :-)
Tom and his son came in and did the job in 2.5 days. They were punctual,
very careful with our furniture, and most important very clean and neat!
They did an outstanding job! Also, one of the most important things, I
know that I can leave them in my house unattended. To me that is very
important.
I definitely recommend them for anything!

Overall it went well.  I was a little concerned at first because he said he would come at 8:30 am but didn't show up until 9:15.  It was a 3-man crew, Tom, his son Tommy, and a worker named Rex.  Tom supervised, Rex did most of the work on the roof and from ladders, and Tommy helped with ladders, etc.  Rex cleaned out the gutters by hand and put the debris in a bucket as he worked.  After he finished a section he would flush it out with the hose and make sure that the downspout was clear.  Also, at my request they checked the integrity of the caulk joining the gutter sections that go around the front porch.  They did this by putting water in the clean gutter and checking for leaks.  No leaks were found.  They put away the hoses when they were done and everything was left clean and neat.  They were here for an hour and 15 minutes.

I would not recommend them. They had a good price, but they did not do a good job. I called them several times just trying to get them to come out to my house.
Response from Toms Handyman
"I installed approx 13 curtain rods - not just one. The customer stated that "they" put up 1 curtain rod but I was the only worker there. I had to move the furniture to get to the windows. I supposed to work 2 hours with the coupon that she purchased.I was there approx 2 hours and 30 minutes. I explained to the customer how to put the rest of the curtain rods up and what she needed to do the job. She thanked me. I don't understand what took about a month for her to give a report that is not accurate. I gave her one of my cards, as I do with all my customers, with my phone number on it & told her to call me if there were any problems with the job. She did not call."

The job was done in the least amount of time necessary.  I felt that they did the least amount they could to get the job done and get out.
Response from Toms Handyman
"This job was a 3 hour coupon for plastering. If one person was on the job then it would take 3 hours for the coupon. If 2 people are on the job it is 1 1/2 hours which is equivilant to 3 hours. This was explained to the customer on the phone before we went to the job. We did not set the price on the job - Angie's List did. We were there at the time we told her we would be, we called her after seeing this report & tried to see if we could resolve the problem. The customer told me I was being argumentative & started to raise her voice to me. I told her to have a nice day & I hung up the phone."

Tom and his son Tommy came and painted the room.  I provided the paint and a roller cover.  I had done some work to try to prep the walls, but they came in and preped the walls in a professional manner.  You cannot tell there was ever a nail hole in the wall.  The room looks terrific and it only took them about 2 hours to paint the entire room.  I didn't have a bed in the room which made it easy to move the rest of the furniture to the center of the room and give them the area they needed to work efficiently.  I had forgotten to take down a very  heavy mirror off the wall but they did that for me and then repaired the holes in the wall left by the screws holding up the mirror.  They brought plenty of drop clothes so they were able to cover my hardwood floors so no paint got where it wasn't supposed to.  They also taped off the base boards.  The painting line at the top of the ceiling is nice and straight.  They did a great job, were on time, were professional and very friendly.  They also gave me an estimate on fixing and tiling my bathroom floor while they were there, but I haven't decided whether I am going to do it myself or hire them to do it.  However, I am sure if I do hire them, the job will be done quickly and professionally.

They appeared to be turstworthy and very friendly.  Unfortunately, their service was barely adequate. There were several instances where Tom (Jr.) said things needed to be done, but he didn't have the tools, or an item, or the necessary equipment "right now," so it was left undone, with no offer to return to complete those things. Very nice people, but not committed to excellence. Mediocre was acceptable to them. I would not use them again.

Scheduled for 8:30 am; Tom and his son showed up at 10:15 am; no call re: being late.  Scheduling was not smooth.  My calls requesting return calls (I had to leave voice mail) to schedule my service were ignored and not returned until I complained to Angie's list personnel.

To Tom Jr.'s credit, one door was done very well including moving the latch plate to accomodate the sealing material.  Tom Jr. did Excellent work on that door.  The home's main door, however was not excellent, but mediocre at best.  One small (2 inch) section of the sealing area was left undone, and another was not properly attached and remains out of place.
Response from Toms Handyman
"as far as arriving at 830 is not a fact.We always give some sort of window and do not control traffic. Not having an item needed is a possibilty, but what was the item?We keep a large supply of tools in our work truck. There are just to many types of tools to have every kind. The time frame from when work was performed until this post was made is over a month. Why not say something at the time?We shook hands after the job was inspected and approved. If not happy could have called, had our business card"

My house only has 14 windows and two doors. They said the windows were new and did not need any work. I thought they would at least add some type of sealant to prevent drafts. The only work performed was, they added weather stripping for the front door. The door in the kitchen was completely ignored. That door, if you stood near it, you could feel the draft coming in! I was mortified when I asked my son about the kitchen door and he said they never looked at it.  Needless to say, I was every dissapointed, because the service providers  came in and left in approximately 15 minutes; perhaps because I was not there for the entire process--I was there to receive them, but had to report to work; l left my son with them--he is 31 years old. I was on  my way to work, and was shocked when my son called and said they were finished!  I had to call them to return and complete the work on the kithen door.
Response from Toms Handyman
"The windows in the customer's home were new - therefore they were already sealed from installation. As far as the doors we did put weatherstripping on the doors. We showed her adult son what we did. Whether we were there 15 minutes or 2 hours does not matter as long as the work was performed and completed. The customer knew we were coming and should have made arrangements to be home if she had concerns. If there was an issue, I don't understand why the customer would wait 3 months to make a report & not call us with her questions regarding the job."

Answered phone promptly and in a very friendly manner.  Promised to call when they were on their way after first job, which they did.  Explained problem to me while fixing the switch.  Tom and his son, Tommy were as friendly and personable as can be and I would definitely use them again.  The dogs loved them too!

"I don't believe it shouldn't take 7 months to put in a response. The job was inspected everyday by the husband. The windows, ceilings, floors were to be cleaned by others. No dirt to be found while we were painting. Paint on ceiling fixtures is from years before. the first coat on cabinets was very rough - it was only the prime coat. Finshed coat was inspected and approved by the owner. Sorry you were not happy with the job. It is our goal to be sure the the customer is happy with the job before we leave it. Which we thought was so because the job was competed and accepted by the owner."
