Douglas Matney Electrical Plumbing

Doug Matney is not only an incredibly knowledgable electrician and plumber, he is also one heck of a nice man. We retired from Texas to rural Virginia last year. We moved into a wonderful 115 year old home. When our water heater went out we asked a friend to recommend someone. She said, "Call Doug Matney." So we did. Not only did Mr. Matney call us to see what kind of water heater we wanted, he picked it up and delivered it that same evening, late on a Friday night. He came back the next morning to install it. Because of the age of the house, and, no doubt, the old water heater, Doug needed some parts. We live in a very small town. The local hardware did not have the parts. He drove 12 miles to the next town to get them. The part that he needed, that he didn't know he would need, was an exhaust pipe that leads from the water heater to the old chimney, using the chimney as the exhaust. Remember this is 115 year old house. Why did he do this? Because he saw that the last people to install the old water heater had not paid notice to the exhaust system. Our chimney was full of old charcoal, anything that had fallen down it in probably the last 100 years. Doug started cleaning out the chimeny. My husband went down into the basement to help him. Together they brought up ten heavy bucket loads of ash and wood. Doug explained to us that carbon monoxide could seep into the house, and certainly the basement, unless there is a good exhaust flow. Well, golly gosh were we ever glad to know this! To say the least, Doug went beyond the call as a professional and certainly as a human being. As for the cost, we got a brand name water heater, five hours of his time on a Saturday when football games were on, his driving 30 miles for a part for the exhaust, and he bought two raffle tickets from me to help restore the old Rural Retreat Depot to boot! Not to mention he very well could have saved our lives from carbon monoxide poisoning! We recommend Douglas Matney Electrical Plumbing without reservation!
