The vinyl installation had all kinds of bubbles in it; the installer had to come back to fix it. He did fix it to our satisfaction.
The carpet installation was done to perfection, but the installers had to borrow my tools to clean up. They complained all day about how heavy our furniture was, and asked my wife to move the TV stand because it was too heavy. Their demeanor was rude and callous--not seeming to care that they were in someone else's house. They broke a dust pan, they broke an antique key rack; they broke a leg off a tub sink in the mud room. The owner offered to take $100.00 off the bill to compensate for all of that destruction.
**UPDATE**
The below review was written before I was sure, but now I know. For anyone who doesn't know, tile is supposed to be installed on cement backer board, which provides a solid surface that doesn't flex the way a typical wooden subfloor would. The solid surface prevents tiles from moving which causes cracks in the grout, or worse, cracks in the tile. My original review did not mention this because I wasn't sure, but now I've pulled up the tile in one of the two bathrooms and found... the tile was glued directly to the plywood subfloor. There was no backer board. Backer board is fairly inexpensive, but the fact that I paid for backer board and did not receive any is unacceptable.
I called the company to inform them of my discovery. Sed promptly offered me... a statement... "Sir, that was three years ago, we only have a two year warranty." Seriously? I don't care about the warranty. I think First American Carpet & Floor needs to do a better job of checking on the people they contract the work to. It is absolutely unbelievable and UNACCEPTABLE for a flooring company to install tile on a plywood subfloor with no backer board.
I'm redoing the work myself and it's already better than the junk I paid for.
**Original Review**
The install went well and we were happy with the service... at first. As time has gone on, we have noticed different things. It has been over two years since the floors were originally installed, and now that we have had to do some other work to the bathrooms where the floors were done some quality issues have become apparent. First, some backstory:
When we first got the linoleum taken up, it was apparent the old cast iron flanges for the toilets had rusted, leaked, and caused damage to the subfloor. The work was on hold while a plumber came out to replace the flanges with new PVC flanges. The plumber did a good job. Now, to the floor:
The grout has cracked twice in various locations (we only had it repaired once because we were fed up). Now, we are replacing the toilets and it turns out the flanges are sticking waaaay up out of the floor! I guess we should have had the flanges installed after the floors or something, or maybe the guy who did the install should have cut a hole in the floor that is the proper size for the flange. Either way, the issue should have been brought to our attention.
Another issue, the toilet constantly rocks - to the point where I now have a plumber here to put in the toilet for me because I can't, as an amateur, get the thing level. Why would a toilet rock even when installed properly? Because the floor is not level! Also, while the toilet was off, I noticed there is no evidence of the cement backer board that we paid for. Maybe it's only in the main part of the bathroom? But you would think I would be able to see it when the plumber accidentally cracks the tile (a pretty big chunk came up) and exposes what's underneath. All that I could see was subfloor and glue. Where is the backer board?
Anyway, TL;DR version - At first things seem great, but over time, issues that weren't immediately apparent may rear their ugly heads.
