His website, www.elitemason.com, shows a 10% discount for work of $650 and more. I asked him about it. He said I got a friends and family discount which is not reflected on my invoice.
I also questioned the 2-year only warranty on the invoice since his website states: " Our owner has more than 20 years of experience in working with concrete, stone, and brick, and knows exactly how to handle any project. If this father of four feels like he can?t look a client in the eye and tell them their masonry work is good for 20 years, then he won?t do the work." His invoice states the warranty only covers the work performed. I certainly understand that.
I sent him two e-mail messages dated June 18 following up on the work performed. He never replied to them. I sent him a message asking him to modify the date because the work was performed on June 16, not June 12. No new receipt issued.
So, in summary:
1. No 10% discount.
2. No extended warranty on work performed.
3. No correction to date on receipt to pass on to new owners.
Very disappointed. Bottomline: Get your estimate with all conditions outlined in writing before the work is performed.
"1. No refund. All stipulations to the contract were discussed prior to signing. The customer and I discussed over the phone that she was receiving a discount due to the nature of the referral. The email asking for a 10% discount was received after the work was completed and her check was sent in the mail. 2. An email was sent to the customer on 7/15/14 with an updated invoice and warranty showing a work date of 6/12/16. The new warranty has a new expiration date of 6/16/16, which fulfills the 2 year warranty give in the contract. 3. The website explains our work ethic and our work lasting through time. No place on the website does it show a warranty of 20 years. This job was a repair not new construction and the 2 year warranty was clear in the signed contract. We are sorry to hear that our customer wasn’t 100% satisfied. We have resolved what we can, however, a refund once the job has been completed different from the signed contract can not be fulfilled. We provided all work outlines. As per the review from the customer it states the “The workers only worked on the top of the chimney”, this too was outlined in the contract- to repair only the top 3 courses of brick to keep the cost down. We have corrected the typo of the work date from 6/16/14 to 6/12/14 and amended the expiration date of your warranty to 6/12/16 as stated above. We feel at Elite Masonry Construction that this job was given great detail with great service and punctuality."
One of the key things that I liked is that the owner was totally responsive to my Scope of Work even though it included items such as painting and power washing that other masonry companies refused to consider. This allowed me to deal with one company instead of two or three.
