Where to begin...to save you, the reader, time, I'll start at the end of my sad, expensive saga: I took Double R to small claims court and sued for the $3,200 deposit that I paid them to remodel my kitchen. The court ruled in my favor and I was awarded the full amount of my suit (Double R didn't even bother to show up to the hearing) and now the owner is ducking my calls and I'm having to take a lot of time out of my schedule to go to the County Courthouse to deal with this matter. With interest on the judgment piling on + court filing fees, + PTO to go to court, + the cost to replace/repair the awful work they did do on the kitchen before they stopped showing up, I'm currently out a considerable amount of money for the poor decision I made to go with a craigslist contractor. So what did this company do, exactly? To begin, Double R never delivered or installed cabinets that they were contracted to install - I literally waited months, choosing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Another poor move on my part. Double R installed laminate flooring in my kitchen carelessly and unevenly, causing it to come apart from the subfloor in several areas - my kitchen floor looked like it had the mumps. One contractor estimated it would cost about 2k for them to rip out and start over on their shoddy work. Double R destroyed an electrical outlet while removing old cabinets from my kitchen. To their credit, Double R did manage to install a beautiful set of vertical blinds in my kitchen. But alas, even the blinds are crooked. This company basically took my $3,200 deposit and ran and then had the audacity to ask me to front an additional 2k on the project, months later. Totally ridciulous. The one bright spot is that I did end up finding an amazing local small business contractor to remodel my kitchen who was able to exceed all expectations and complete the project even faster than estimated - imagine that. Avoid Double R at all cost!
