The technician that came out, I actually request him and use him because he is just so friendly and so nice.  They actually take the time to explain what they have to do versus a couple of other companies that I called that don’t do that.

Highly competent/skilled/professional/knowledgable.  Helpful and courteous.  However, cost estimate came in 20%+ higher thatn a comparably strong competitor.

We used this company upon the suggestion of our realtor when we bought our home.  They serviced our HVAC units and told us one was not heating efficiently, so we ordered a heat pack (cracked) and spent over $600 on it and it heated fine.  We purchased two service plans one for each HVAC unit.  We had a leak in late Feb and called - guy came out and resealed it, and we thought the problem was over after $241 expense (for caulk!)  Then we had more leaking two days later, so we called them back.  A technician came out, stuck his finger in teh water and said we need a $2000 repair!  After using less than a minute and putting his finger in some water he magically knows we need a major part repaired.  Afraid of being bilked, I called another HVAC company who did indicate we needed a new part that was cracked, but with labor and the part would be less than $200.  Needless to say, we were MAD - I called the manager who refunded us teh $241 plus our service contracts.  Now we wonder if that previous $600 repair was really needed or installed properly...We are now searching for a new HVAC person!

I now feel I can relax and know that my system will continue giving me cold air during the hot summer.

The original repair went fine - I thought the company was great.  A technician was able to come out the evening of the day I called them and he diagnosed the problem quickly.  They were able to get the compressor the next day and then come out the day after that to do the actual repair.  One thing of note about the repair was that the technician caused a very minor explosion when removing the bad part.  He was using a blow torch and evidently had ignited some oil contained inside the old compressor.  It went "WUMPF" and a quick flash of fire erupted from out of the A/C housing.  It didn't appear to cause any damage and the technician was okay - I think he was more surprised than shaken-up or injured.  After taking a moment to regain his composure, he got right back to the task at hand and got my A/C working again.   Fast-forward three months later - same symptoms as before the original repair.  The house was hot, and the A/C fan was running constantly, and blowing warm air through the vents.  I called the next day and they came out that evening and diagnosed it as a compressor failure.  Yeah, the part they replaced went bad!  Lucky for me it failed within their 90-day labor warranty period.  The guy said they'd call me when the part came in to schedule the replacement.  Two days went by and I'd heard nothing, so I called them on the third day.  They said they had to order the part from the manufacturer and that "it should be here on Thursday" (two more days).  That would be nearly a week without air conditioning for me - my house is hot and I'm getting a bit hot under the collar, but I can live another two days I suppose.  Thursday came and went and I heard nothing, so I called them on Friday.  No part yet - the girl in the office said she'd check on it and call me back.  She called me back and said the manufacturer would be shipping it out on Monday and that it'd be here on Thursday.  W**?!?  THURSDAY?  Really?  That's what you said LAST WEEK!!!  Yeah, so now I'm starting to get it.  I'm just a warranty repair.  They're not making any money on this job, so there's absolutely no hurry to get the part - no need to please this customer!  When I was paying for the job, they got the part lickety-split.  Now, I'm just a nuisance that's in the way of them making money.   So they finally get the part in on the second Thursday and call me to schedule the replacement.  It was mid-September, but it was still hot - the hottest September on record!  Only a couple more weeks 'til October.  I've lived through two weeks of 90-degree heat without A/C (thanks Aire Serv).  I figure I can last 'til the heat breaks and fall comes.  If they install the part now, then it's warranted until September of 2011.  If I wait until spring, it'll be warranted through May of 2012.  So I figure their calendar will be wide-open for mid-May 2010, so I ask for May 16th for the replacement.  "Oh, NO!  We can't do it then", I'm told.  "That's our busiest week of the year - We need to keep that time open for emergencies.  Yeah, I know - I'm just a warranty job.  What I want is of no consequence!  So I suggest May 9th.  That's acceptable to them, so we set it for 9:00 AM, Monday, May 9, 2011.   Fast-forward eight months.  Monday, May 9th - 9:30 AM... no technician.  I called their office - apparently the girl called me three weeks ago and left a message to confirm the appointment because it was made so far in advance.  I NEVER GOT A MESSAGE FROM THEM!  Maybe she miss-dialed the number when she called.  If she had called a week ahead of the appointment, I'd have been away on vacation.  I dunno - there's so many stupid things that can happen where someone doesn't get a frickin' message, but because I never responded to their supposed message, THEY CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT!!!  Just a little icing on my Aire Serv cake, I guess...  I planned my vacation around this appointment and took an extra day off to make it.  Anyway, I tried being nice, I tried being nasty, I tried talking to the franchise owner - there was simply nothing they could do to get out and fix my A/C on my appointed day.  I guess my long-range planning just blew-up in my face.     Aire Serv will be the absolute LAST company I ever call the next time my Heat/AC needs any kind of service!
