. As I already mentioned, I purchased three new vehicles (within five years) from this Casey dealership. Customer / Toyota loyalty doesn't seem to mean much to these folks.
I went home and found the new keys opened the doors, trunk, but would not start the engine. I call the service department and was told to get the car towed over and they could make the correct new keys. AAA towed me over. After over an hours I was very nicely told that the keys could not be replaced without replacing the in car computer for $1400.00 plus labor. There was no other way. There was no offer to take back to wrong keys and return my money. AND no suggestion that there was another way to make new keys at a much lower cost. I left the car at Casey's while I considered my options. The car's value with keys is only $5000.00
The next day I happened to be at the a motorhome store I use, and happened to meet my RV insurance agent. He suggested calling the local office for Pop-A-Lock. He thought they did work that I needed. I called on Friday. On Sunday afternoon they went to the lot at Casey's with me and with the proper equipment to reset the computer, made 2 keys. The cost $400.00.
A few days before this oil change I had gotten oil changed in my other car at Jiffy Lube for 39.95. When I scheduled the oil change with Casey I asked the cost and was told it would be 74.95. I told them about the Jiffy Lube price and was told that if I brought in the receipt that they would match the price. While I appreciated the price match it occurred to me that had I paid Casey 74.95 and then discovered the next day the forty dollar difference I would have felt cheated. I understand price matching, but that makes sense to me only when the prices are somewhat similar. A forty dollar difference implies that either Jiffy Lube is giving away oil changes (seems unlikely) or Casey Toyota is wildly overpricing this service.
Will I continue to patronize Casey Toyota? Yes, because they are the only Toyota dealer in my area.
I called another mechanic (a small and independent garage I have used before) and when I told him the issues and mileage, he thought it was odd that my car already needed the fluid change. His estimate for the services was also about $140 for both items. Needless to say, I
declined the extra services at Casey, but I did take it to another (third) mechanic (one that a friend recommended and has straight As on Angie's List). When I called the third mechanic and described the issues, he immediately asked if the assessment had come from a "dealership mechanic". I told him "yes". I subsequently took my car to the third mechanic and within 15 minutes of leaving it with them, they called and said everything was fine. The mechanic said the rear brakes were perfect, and there was no condensation, but they did add a small amount of brake fluid. I went to pay for their services/inspection and he did not charge me for it.
I can't help but think that Casey Toyota tried to sell me extra services for one or more reasons: 1) to help recoup some of the costs for moving to a brand new sparkling facility; 2) because my pre-paid maintenance package is almost finished; and 3) I am female.
I prepaid the maintenance when I purchased my car, so I didn’t pay anything at this last oil change. When you go in for your appointment, you are taken in right away, and they even send you an email so you know when it is finished. They do a very efficient service. They take care of your car and they put mats in before they put their feet in it. I’ve had several cars with them and I keep going back because they are excellent. It's a good price but there are places that you can get your oil changed for cheaper. They are always on time and they are done when they say they are going to be.
My last bill was under $100. I bought my car from them about 12 years ago. So, I go there regularly to have it serviced. They generally do a good job. Overall, they are very good. Their price is not great or bad. They are average. The quality of their work is good. I would use their services in the future too.
