We were in a hurry. Our HVAC system died and the crawlspace retaining wall access was a little steel half circle that was nowhere near large enough to get equipment in or out for replacement. 2 of the 4 HVAC bids we got added in the labor to dig out the area, and put it back to how it was (unusable for future repairs!) for the same cost as Tom's professional solution. He had folks out to remove a bush in the way, excavate a much larger pit, finish it with a nice retaining wall of pavers with capstones and a crushed stone bottom. Now there will always be easy access to the crawlspace for any size project. They were also kind enough to repurpose the excavated soil into our garden beds which desperately needed it.
