We called Walker and Clarke for a leak we noticed along the ceiling in our upstairs bathroom. Within two days these guys came out and fixed multiple issues they found on the roof. They repaired it on the spot and explained to me exactly what they did and why they did it. Great service and decent price.

Came to our rescue on a day when our home was broken into.  Thank you for for reliability and how swiftly you were able to get to us and close up our home to make us feel safer during a difficult time.  What great service to not only fix the damaged door but you also helped fix a few other problems on the spot.  This is why small communities are great and why we rely on local companies for our services.  I would recommend Walker and Clarke in a heartbeat.  Thanks again!!

. Provided timely, easy estimate. Arrived as promised, did a nice, clean job of replacing trim. They missed a piece of trim in their estimate, and they replaced it with zero argument and no extra charge, which I appreciated. Trustworthy, quality work. I would hire again.

They removed and reinstalled vinyl siding on entire home over Hardie Wrap weather barrier house wrap.  They were very efficient and professional. They did what they promised and more! Donnie Walker checked with us to make sure we were pleased and gave suggestions about extra repairs that might be needed in the future. The  foreman was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They arrived on time and kept us informed about weather delays.  We are extremely pleased with the work and would wholeheartedly recommend them!!  This is a company you  can depend on to give you their very best. It is rare to be able to us this word to describe a company, but I have to go with OUTSTANDING!!!    Thanks for a job well done!  :-)

Donnie and his crew (including his dad) are most knowledgeable and have creative ideas.  I am so pleased with my bathroom and deck.  In the past, I have had to have work redone after just a short time.  I do not anticipate that will be the case here at all.  They paid close attention to detail and kept me informed.

I'm from the era when work was done with pride and done well.  It takes some searching these days to find that.  (Meant to write this a while ago)

Donnie Walker and his father are very friendly, hard-working and professional.  From the first contact, they were responsive and on top of things.  They helped me communicate with my insurance company for the parts of the job that were damage-related.  It was a pleasure working with them.

Donnie (owner) and team were fantastic!

I've hired many contractors over the years and I can honestly say that Walker & Clarke was the best experience I've ever had.

When Donnie came out to look at what I needed done, I showed him a concern that I had with one window that was showing signs of rot.  He was the only contractor out of three that took the time to climb out on a flat section of the roof to fully inspect the issue and determined that the original flashing was done incorrectly.  This one example moved him to the top of my list and that was even before I got his estimate.  Once the contract was signed:

1) The crew showed up on time.

2) Did what was agreed upon and did it with extremely high quality workmanship.

3) Maintained a clean and organized job site.

The entire project took a week.  There were no surprises or contract mods/additional costs due to unforeseen issues.  This is a testament to their thorough inspection and understanding of what needed to be done.

Full disclosure - they were not inexpensive.  However, you get what you pay for.

I would highly recommend Walker & Clarke for anyone that wants a worry free, high quality, contractor experience.

The contractor performed as advertised, no surprises.
The contractor responded immediately to my Angie's List query - on a Sunday afternoon.
He toured the site and delivered a precise and detailed quote the next day.
He had a crew available within 2 days to complete the whole job in one day.
The correct materials were delivered on schedule.
He did a few other things not contracted for that were of the 'while we're at it...' nature, commonly referred to as "above and beyond". There were no 'oh, by the way" last minute, add-on charges: satisfaction was as quoted/contracted.
The site was cleaned-up thoroughly upon completion: Had I not been looking for the new work, I may not have realized anyone had been there.
I will engage Walker & Clarke again should a need arise.

We lost a shutter on the second floor in a recent wind storm. I filled out a request for information via their website and Donnie Walker responded immediately to my request for information via phone and provided several options and pricing. It was a small job but he was able fit it in between his larger jobs and get it done quickly. We were very satisfied with the work done and were impressed at how responsive via both phone and email Donnie was. An increasingly rare trait these days.

We had almost completed the one story addition on our house and after a while realized that the attic in it was too large to be used just as an attic.  There also seemed to be too much roof.  We felt that adding dormers would do the trick in bringing in some light, give the attic more head room and balance out the roof.  I contacted Walker and Clarke to explain what I needed - Donnie, the owner came out right away to take measurements and discuss options.

The suggestions he made and potential problems he pointed out on some of my ideas helped us decide which type of dormer to build.  Once we decided, the whole process was a breeze the rest of the way.  Donnie and his crew did an excellent job of building the dormer, putting it  on, making it water tight and making sure that it was proportionate to the windows below on the first floor, and also to the existing dormers on the original part of the house.  Because it was a last minute thing, and not planned from the beginning, I was worried that it might look "added on".  But it turned out far better than I expected and looks like it is original to the 1850 house.

This turned out to be a much more complicated install than either of one us expected. The only place to put the door in turned out to be the one section of a wall that had an electrical outlet on BOTH sides of the wall (inside and outside the wall). To make matters worse, instead of a regular pair of studs, we had double studs inside the drywall. Did I mention that I compounded the work by purchasing a doggie door for installation on doors rather than walls?
Despite all this, Donnie was able to do a master job of installing the door. It had two sets of flaps for weather proofing, and he did a great job of restoring the outside vinyl covering back over the install area. He improvised a chute using materials that he had on his truck and didn't charge me for a few small material items.
The whole install took several hours as he had to do some carpentry (cut out dry wall and cut out part of the double studs) and some electrical work (move the electrical outlets per code), in addition to actually installing the door.
Now that it's done, I can't be happier with the outcome. It looks great, fits neatly into my kitchen wall, and I have nary a draft coming in through the double flaps.

I contacted Donnie Walker via phone call to schedule an estimate. Rather than take time to visit for an in person estimate, Donnie suggested that I take pictures of the damage due to the leak and he could likely determine the cost of the repair based on the pictures. I took a couple of pictures with my cell phone and texted them to Donnie. He called and described 3 possible scenarios and explained the most likely source of the leak along with an estimated cost of the repairs. He was able to schedule my repair in less than a week, which was greatly appreciated. About 4 days before his arrival, I texted him and said I had found a second window that needed repair. He said he would take a look when he arrived.
On the day of the repair, his crew showed up promptly at 8:30AM to start work. They immediately went to work on the initial repair and I invited Donnie inside to take a look at the second window. Since he was already setup, he offered to fix the second window the same day and said he could give me a discount for doing both in one day. Later, he gave yet another discount when he found out I had used Angie's List to find his business.
The repairs were very high quality and exactly as he described. The actual cost ended up being substantially less due to his honesty about his rates and willingness to save me money by fixing both windows on the same day despite the fact that I originally only told him about a single window. The repairs were completed by 1:30PM, which was faster than  I expected. Very efficient.
I'd definitely use Walker and Clarke Builders again in the future. Honest, hard working, and high quality. Thanks very much!

Last year our deck and attached porch started showing signs of needing repair.  We reached out to several deck companies only to find out that they were only interested in replacing the entire deck vs. fixing the railings.  I joined Angie's list with the hopes of finding someone local to do this work.  Walker and Clarke was a company that was actually based in northern Loudoun county and had done a significant amount of work all over the county and my town.  Dinnie Walker came out to the house and gave me a very honest estimate of what needed to be done and when his crew would be able to do it.  They recently completed the repairs on the railings and sun room.  We were so pleased with the quality of the work done that we had them replace the railings on our front porch as well with a composite material.  They also fixed a couple of rotting boards located around two of our windows.  They will be working on my chimney next to correct a flashing issue that causes water to seep thru to the basement.  I highly recommend this group and will be using them for all of my home maintenance jobs in the future. We value the retreat our home offers and also want to maintain our home as our biggest investment.

Donnie let us know when to door came in, and we waited two more weeks because of vacations for himself and his crew.  He gave us a day, and told us that the work would begin between 8:30 and 9:00.  Part of his crew arrived between 8:30 and 9:00 and got right to work.  By 10:30, the old door and surrounding woodwork was removed, and Donnie could see what was behind the dry rot.  Fortunately, there wasn't any significant damage behind.  Donnie determined that water was getting in behind the siding above the door around a second story window.  He took the siding off above the door, made corrections so that water should not get in again, and installed flashing around the door to direct any water that got in away from the woodwork around the door.
The new door was installed, and Donnie and his crew even managed to re-install our storm door in front of the new door.  Donnie also identified a couple of additional spots with dry rot on the front of the house and repaired those places at an additional cost.  The whole job was done about 3:00PM.
We have hardwood floors in our home.  Donnie's crew put down cardboard where they were working at the front of the house and were running a vacuum to get up the dust and mess almost continuously.  Still have to paint the new front door and woodwork, but the result looks great.

We had basement flooding.  Contacted Walker and Clarke.  They were very timely/responsive.  Given we could not afford the recommended long-term fix, they engineered affordable alternative measures.  They installed additional drainage (underground piping with gravel, etc.), directing water away from the foundation of the house.  They repaired existing drainage/piping.  They re-seeded grass at bare spots, post-dig work.  They educated us along the way.  We have had no significant flooding since, despite continued downpours of rain.  In short, they were quick, innovative, knowledgeable, professional, and much more reasonably priced than the competition.  We would most certainly recommend them to others, and will have them at the top of our list of contacts for future house repairs and/or renovations.

I called Donnie Monday morning at 8:30am to see if he had availability to look at a leak I had in my roof (I live in a three story town home). Donnie informed me he was available to come look at my roof that morning. He and an associate were at my home within a couple of hours. Donnie looked at both the roof and the ceiling inside the house and was quickly able to diagnose the problem. He offered me several comprehensive options for remediation and helped me choose the best option. He had all the tools and supplies with him so he was able to repair the damage at that time. While Donnie was waiting for the caulke to dry he took the time to talk to my insurance company to explain the extent of the damage and the repairs he was making. Within an hour and a half all the repairs were complete, the area was cleaned of all debris and returned to its original condition. I am very happy with my choice to use Walker & Clarke Builders and will not hesitate to use them in the future if/when the need arises.

I was looking to add some decorative trim to our windows, and based on the other reviews here, I contacted Walker & Clarke (among others) for an estimate.  Donnie Walker answered the phone right away and we made arrangements for him to visit that same Saturday.  He told me upfront that he charges a consultation fee.  I agreed, and we met at the specified time and date.  Of all the contractors I spoke to, he was the only one who showed up with the actual carpenter who would be personally performing the work, and he brought trim samples and a catalog of other options.  He spent about an hour with us going through all the options, and even had his carpenter (Mike) assemble a samplepiece of trim on the spot so we could visualize the final product.  Every other contractor simply said they could do whatever we wanted, but Donnie was the only one who actually spent the time to show it to us and not leave anything up to interpretation.  He provided a price estimate before leaving, and got back to me two days later (that Monday) with firm pricing for his materials.  While the materials ended up being more than the original estimate, we decided to move forward anyway.
They started the job on Thursday, and were finished by end of day Monday.  The windows came out exactly as I had hoped- actually, even better than that.  I was very, very impressed.  They kept the work areas clean, took care of my hardwood floors, and thoroughly cleaned up my garage after they were done.  All throughout the project, Donnie kept in touch with me and checked in to see how things were going.  Even though the whole thing only took a few days, he stopped by the house at least 3 separate times to check on the progress.
In the past year, having renovated and sold a house and bought a new one, I've used a large number of contractors for different services.  The general rule of thumb seems to be that you can't get a hold of anybody when you need to talk to them.  It's very rare and refreshing when you deal with someone who actually takes customer service seriously and answers your calls, texts and emails right away.  While the price for the work was not the lowest of the estimates I received, I feel that the level of service I received from Walker & Clarke justified the difference.  I'll gladly pay more for a professional who takes their work seriously and actually understands that a happy customer means repeat business.  I would happily recommend Walker & Clarke and will certainly use their services again.

Very well.  When I contacted the firm Donnie Walker called me right back.  I explained that my old wooden front door had large cracks and that the wooden part of the sidelights were cracking, as well. He made an appointment to come over and see the door - arrived on time and was very clear in his explanation of what he would need to do.  He also was very clear that if he found any "extra" rotting or damage under the wood floor in the front hall (due to the old door leaking) that the job might cost more but that he wouldn't do any additional work without consulting me.

He worked with me to find a front door (and sidelights)  made of fiberglass that had a "wood" look and fit in with my colonial house. We agreed on a day to install and Donnie called the day before to explain that he had something to take care of the following day but would join his crew later that afternoon.  His crew showed up right on time and they got right to work.  They were very professional, answered all my questions and were extremely good with my dogs!  An added bonus!  They did extensive work around the sill of the door and in the end found no additional damage and the estimate was the final cost.

I usually wait a few weeks before writing a review in case the work starts to show problems.  It's been over a month and the  work was well done and has held up to snow, sleet and heavy wind.

All in all I was very pleased with almost everything they did!  My only criticism is that some of the finish work (floor moldings, dry wall joints) are a little sloppy.  Donnie explained that they install the door but don't do any painting or caulking where the door and sidelights meet the drywall.  I am bringing in a painter to paint, caulk and replace some of the shoe molding that doesn't fit right any more.  Since I have never had a front door replaced I don't know if this is something that usually happens.

Overall - very good, professional work and professional guys.  On time, on budget and very friendly.
