"Thank you so much for the work and most of all understanding that we cannot control the weather the controls our schedule please share information with any of your nearby friends that might need any work done"
Donnie and his crew (including his dad) are most knowledgeable and have creative ideas. I am so pleased with my bathroom and deck. In the past, I have had to have work redone after just a short time. I do not anticipate that will be the case here at all. They paid close attention to detail and kept me informed.
I'm from the era when work was done with pride and done well. It takes some searching these days to find that. (Meant to write this a while ago)
Donnie (owner) and team were fantastic!
I've hired many contractors over the years and I can honestly say that Walker & Clarke was the best experience I've ever had.
When Donnie came out to look at what I needed done, I showed him a concern that I had with one window that was showing signs of rot. He was the only contractor out of three that took the time to climb out on a flat section of the roof to fully inspect the issue and determined that the original flashing was done incorrectly. This one example moved him to the top of my list and that was even before I got his estimate. Once the contract was signed:
1) The crew showed up on time.
2) Did what was agreed upon and did it with extremely high quality workmanship.
3) Maintained a clean and organized job site.
The entire project took a week. There were no surprises or contract mods/additional costs due to unforeseen issues. This is a testament to their thorough inspection and understanding of what needed to be done.
Full disclosure - they were not inexpensive. However, you get what you pay for.
I would highly recommend Walker & Clarke for anyone that wants a worry free, high quality, contractor experience.

The contractor responded immediately to my Angie's List query - on a Sunday afternoon.
He toured the site and delivered a precise and detailed quote the next day.
He had a crew available within 2 days to complete the whole job in one day.
The correct materials were delivered on schedule.
He did a few other things not contracted for that were of the 'while we're at it...' nature, commonly referred to as "above and beyond". There were no 'oh, by the way" last minute, add-on charges: satisfaction was as quoted/contracted.
The site was cleaned-up thoroughly upon completion: Had I not been looking for the new work, I may not have realized anyone had been there.
I will engage Walker & Clarke again should a need arise.
"thank you four the work. keep my number for anything you need"
"Thank you for waiting until my schedule was open to fix. Really glad the thunderstorm held off that evening until i was finished"
"thank you for sharing about how i can estimated by photos, had to point out this review today after being accused of photo estimating is not being professional in my industry. We are as usual ahead in our industry in a lot of ways"
"Thank you so much for the review, i have so many people who get defensive when i ask for photos and accuse me of not being able to estimate that way. Even on very complicated repairs i am able to work this way and save everyone much required time."
"Clean! You did the vacuming! Thank you"
The suggestions he made and potential problems he pointed out on some of my ideas helped us decide which type of dormer to build. Once we decided, the whole process was a breeze the rest of the way. Donnie and his crew did an excellent job of building the dormer, putting it on, making it water tight and making sure that it was proportionate to the windows below on the first floor, and also to the existing dormers on the original part of the house. Because it was a last minute thing, and not planned from the beginning, I was worried that it might look "added on". But it turned out far better than I expected and looks like it is original to the 1850 house.
Despite all this, Donnie was able to do a master job of installing the door. It had two sets of flaps for weather proofing, and he did a great job of restoring the outside vinyl covering back over the install area. He improvised a chute using materials that he had on his truck and didn't charge me for a few small material items.
The whole install took several hours as he had to do some carpentry (cut out dry wall and cut out part of the double studs) and some electrical work (move the electrical outlets per code), in addition to actually installing the door.
Now that it's done, I can't be happier with the outcome. It looks great, fits neatly into my kitchen wall, and I have nary a draft coming in through the double flaps.
"thank you for taking the time to send photos prior to the work being done. Call us any time"
On the day of the repair, his crew showed up promptly at 8:30AM to start work. They immediately went to work on the initial repair and I invited Donnie inside to take a look at the second window. Since he was already setup, he offered to fix the second window the same day and said he could give me a discount for doing both in one day. Later, he gave yet another discount when he found out I had used Angie's List to find his business.
The repairs were very high quality and exactly as he described. The actual cost ended up being substantially less due to his honesty about his rates and willingness to save me money by fixing both windows on the same day despite the fact that I originally only told him about a single window. The repairs were completed by 1:30PM, which was faster than I expected. Very efficient.
I'd definitely use Walker and Clarke Builders again in the future. Honest, hard working, and high quality. Thanks very much!
"thank you for working with us, this is how every job works out when customers listen to simple our requirements for great service. taking the time to send pictures saved you money and us time."
The new door was installed, and Donnie and his crew even managed to re-install our storm door in front of the new door. Donnie also identified a couple of additional spots with dry rot on the front of the house and repaired those places at an additional cost. The whole job was done about 3:00PM.
We have hardwood floors in our home. Donnie's crew put down cardboard where they were working at the front of the house and were running a vacuum to get up the dust and mess almost continuously. Still have to paint the new front door and woodwork, but the result looks great.
They started the job on Thursday, and were finished by end of day Monday. The windows came out exactly as I had hoped- actually, even better than that. I was very, very impressed. They kept the work areas clean, took care of my hardwood floors, and thoroughly cleaned up my garage after they were done. All throughout the project, Donnie kept in touch with me and checked in to see how things were going. Even though the whole thing only took a few days, he stopped by the house at least 3 separate times to check on the progress.
In the past year, having renovated and sold a house and bought a new one, I've used a large number of contractors for different services. The general rule of thumb seems to be that you can't get a hold of anybody when you need to talk to them. It's very rare and refreshing when you deal with someone who actually takes customer service seriously and answers your calls, texts and emails right away. While the price for the work was not the lowest of the estimates I received, I feel that the level of service I received from Walker & Clarke justified the difference. I'll gladly pay more for a professional who takes their work seriously and actually understands that a happy customer means repeat business. I would happily recommend Walker & Clarke and will certainly use their services again.
Very well. When I contacted the firm Donnie Walker called me right back. I explained that my old wooden front door had large cracks and that the wooden part of the sidelights were cracking, as well. He made an appointment to come over and see the door - arrived on time and was very clear in his explanation of what he would need to do. He also was very clear that if he found any "extra" rotting or damage under the wood floor in the front hall (due to the old door leaking) that the job might cost more but that he wouldn't do any additional work without consulting me.
He worked with me to find a front door (and sidelights) made of fiberglass that had a "wood" look and fit in with my colonial house. We agreed on a day to install and Donnie called the day before to explain that he had something to take care of the following day but would join his crew later that afternoon. His crew showed up right on time and they got right to work. They were very professional, answered all my questions and were extremely good with my dogs! An added bonus! They did extensive work around the sill of the door and in the end found no additional damage and the estimate was the final cost.
I usually wait a few weeks before writing a review in case the work starts to show problems. It's been over a month and the work was well done and has held up to snow, sleet and heavy wind.
All in all I was very pleased with almost everything they did! My only criticism is that some of the finish work (floor moldings, dry wall joints) are a little sloppy. Donnie explained that they install the door but don't do any painting or caulking where the door and sidelights meet the drywall. I am bringing in a painter to paint, caulk and replace some of the shoe molding that doesn't fit right any more. Since I have never had a front door replaced I don't know if this is something that usually happens.
Overall - very good, professional work and professional guys. On time, on budget and very friendly.
