Persimmon Woodworking

Electrical for Home Addition or Remodel - Install, Electrical for Home Addition, Electrical Wiring or Panel Upgrade,

About us

Persimmon Woodworking has been a Virginia class A general contractor since 1980. Custom, one of a kind homes, to include active and passive solar designs have been carefully constructed one at a time. Currently, I have needed to scale back to a sole owner operator. Until our economy improves, I will be working virtually alone. One positive thought is that my projects receive the highest attention to detail as I only work one project at a time. Once I place my name on a contract, that is where my attention and loyalty reside until completion. I will let my clients speak for me, just read what they have had to say.

Mr Rehm delivered on everything he said that he would do. He is a perfectionist and pays great attention to even the smallest detail. He listened and was carefully attentive to everything we wished to have done and worked with us by providing great ideas and solutions that best suited our designs and budget. Mr Rehm's workmanship is superb and excellent in every way - he does everything as a fine craftsman. His approach to his work and his results are the same as what we would expect have if we could do the work ourselves. All of the fit and finishes are what we expected from custom, hand-crafted work. We love our new floors and kitchen more and more each day.  Next, we will ask Mr Rehm to redo our bathrooms and master closet. By the way, Mr. Rehm's address city and zip code should be listed as:  HAMILTON, VA 20158.

We had 3 estimates from contractors found on Angie's list.  It was a very good experience working with Paul Rehm of Persimmon Woodworking.

Overall, I feel very fortunate to find Paul, it was a good decision to go "local" :-)

We agreed to start the project with minimal real definition to the design.  Paul worked to provide a design that met our expectations and delivered an end product that was well finished.  The new gazebo had to be worked into some existing deck dimensions which could have made the looks uneven, but Paul worked so that the problems were hardly noticeable in the end.  We were given ample opportunity to review the design as it progressed and make changes.  Paul selected quality materials that were within our budget and applied them expertly.  This project was done during a heat wave and every day exceeded 95 degrees.  Many contractors would have cut corners to get done and out of the heat, but Paul worked the project through.

We wanted the gazebo to have completely open sides without the usual angle braces and so Paul had to design a way around that.  He managed to incorporate the gazebo design into the existing deck railing system so that it looks like the deck was built with it.  We also wanted a somewhat organic look so went with cedar shakes for the roof.  Paul added some craftsman touches such as shaped ends to the exposed rafters, and a center post for the roof that provides a decorative look on the inside of the roof.

We did the staining ourselves.

I have lived in my house for over 30 years with the original kitchen. The cabinets were falling apart. The drafts coming through the walls kept the kitchen very cold in the winter. The pantry was so small I kept my kitchen supplies in the linen closet down the hall. The refrigerator had no ice maker and the vinyl floor was peeling up. I spoke to several contractors and even started with one that did not follow through on his promises.
I spoke to Paul about the design of my pantry to make it more spacious and what type of door frame was possible to keep the opening wide enough to have a freezer door open without losing interior shelf space. He was so helpful that I decided to ask him to be the general contractor/ custom woodworker for doing the whole kitchen. I knew Paul built custom homes and that his attention to detail was just what I needed.
Paul had a lead on a good cabinet company and from there we worked on the floor up. Paul was very good at organizing the jobs and working with the subcontractors. He has so much experience that he even helped the sub contractors. He always made sure the job was ready for the next step. Making the holes for the overhead lighting so the electrician was not delayed in installing the canisters. The cabinets were so level the counter installers had a easy job for installation. My original counters in one area had a one inch gap. Paul made sure the walls were plumb and straight! Paul even helped with the final counter design shape. I had extensions from the cabinet face and he knew how to describe the curvatures I needed.  Paul did not cut corners to do a job. The porcelain  floor was placed over a well prepared surface. He worked very hard with a diamond cutting machine until the surface was clean and level. He worked even when our air conditioner broke a couple of times in the summer time. Of course we did get the air conditioning company out to our house ASAP. Paul was very careful in protecting our new floor, cabinet, and counters as he worked.
I had full overlay cabinet doors to the ceiling. The doors open beautifully and smoothly. I do not know how he did it but there was not a scratch on any of the cabinets after installation. Paul was even cost conscience. He found a beautiful piece of Formica on sale to put into my pantry. Not only did it look fantastic it was also very strong to hold all the canned goods I needed to store. Paul made sure all the holes from the outside were sealed and insulation was placed. Yeah no drafts!
I had designed and built a spice draw in my old kitchen. Paul was able to make me a new and improved version to match my new cabinets. It is one of the amazing aspects of many in my kitchen  that I show off to my friends and family. Paul made custom window molding, thresholds and storage space improvements. After a year I still tell my husband  (and others) that I love looking, working and showing off my kitchen. I could not have picked a better person to work with to remodel my kitchen  - or anything else when I need to.
