I had received a flyer in the mail about McTree services and decided to call because it offered a free estimate. I sent an email to the address on the flyer and got a call back promptly. Harold came out the next day to give me an estimate for the work. He came out, looked at the tree and said he would cut the dead tree that was still standing, for 500.00. That sounded reasonable so I asked him how much would it cost to also chop up the fallen tree and he said they would do that for an additional 75.00. Ive had tree work done in the past and this amount seemed reasonable to me, it was slightly more than what I had paid in the past for tree work, but this tree was dead and it was leaning over a pasture fence. I agreed to the price quoted. Harold said "he would just do a handshake deal on this because he's an honest guy." They came out and did the work 3 days later, and they were on time. When they were finished I came out, and inspected the work- it appeared to be done ok, not super but good enough, I figured for 575.00. The trunk of the tree that was standing was left kind of tall - about 4 feet- I didnt really like that. Some of the branches had not been chopped to firewood length, they were long. And later as I was hauling off the rounds, I found that some of the big logs were not cut all the way through with the chainsaw, so I will have to finish that myself. But the worst part is that when I wrote out the check for the 575.00 Harold now said that he NEVER quoted me that price! He now said that he had told me 975.00 -- and that I had misheard him. And one of his men standing next to him agreed and said oh yes, it was 975.00, because he heard it being said. - . 975.00 for the work done was NOT a good deal, it was an outrageous price for the work done, and I would never have agreed to it if that had been the quoted price. So--- just saying here-- if you decide to get any work done by this company GET A CONTRACT.
