We had some initial miscommunications regarding when estimator would come to review the job, and then again when the team would show up to do the job. But, the quality of work was worth the frustration of the schedule mix-up. They were so apologetic about the schedule miscues that they removed the two added trees at no additional cost. Their clean-up of the area was impeccable. Like previous reviewer, I found that they left it better than they found it.
My son has since used them to remove 6 large pines from his property. He had now scheduling miscommunications and he was equally impressed by their quality of work and professionalism throughout.
I would definitely use them again.
"[Member Name Removed] we work extremely hard every day to make all of our customers happy - I hope you will find it in you to see that we were in a very unfortunate position and revise this review; We still do not have our stump grinder. We have lost money in renting a stump grinder to take care of our customers... The image below is the route my team took once we acquired the rental - you were second on the list. IMG_6135.jpeg"
I bought an Angie's special - $99 for $250 worth of tree trimming service. The manager (owner?) of the company came to my house on a Sunday afternoon when I wasn't expecting him, but just happened to be at home. He told me that he had come to schedule my appointment for the tree trimming. Right away, he told me I had to pay $100 in addition to the $99 I had already paid to cover the cost of his men coming from Virginia Beach to Norfolk to do the work. I felt like I was had. Like it was a bait and switch, but I had already paid the $99, so I agreed to pay the additional $100. All this so that I could get a few branches of my magnolia tree cut so that they did not rub against my house. When the work was actually done (I wasn't home at the time), a great swath of my magnolia tree was missing. It was definitely overkill. The only good thing is that I won't have to have my tree trimmed for 3 or more years because so much was cut off.
I won't use this company again. I felt abused for having to pay $100 to cover their transportation costs. I wasn't in a hurry to get the work done; they came at their convenience. I think the manager should have scheduled several customers in the area on the same day and I shouldn't have had to pay extra. Also, what I thought was a simple job which should have taken 5 or 10 minutes, was blown up into a job that dramatically changed the look of my tree. When the manager was at my house discussing the job, we never talked about him taking so much off of the tree, including a huge branch with a diameter of over 5 inches.
This whole experience gives me a bad taste in my mouth for this company and for Angie's List. I have been an Angie's List customer for about 5 or more years. I don't think I will renew my membership.
"We apologize for the miss communication - $350 for trimming a Magnolia tree is well within industry standard - we as a company will always factor the cost of a commute (5 employees on the clock / fuel) into our estimates - we are not a charity. We apologize for the scope being out of line; even though we did more than you asked for I can see why you would be upset."
They're thorough, courteous, and professional. Mike -- one of the co-owners -- arrived on time on Saturday to provide an estimate -- to which they adhered: there were no surprises on the final bill. On the day the work was done, a 4- or 5-man crew arrived at the beginning of the planned window. The job -- which included trimming 2 large trees, removing a dead willow tree (and grinding the stump), and removing all debris -- was completed in an hour less than the estimated time. There was no damage to my lawn or property: you wouldn't know they had been in my yard unless you had seen, beforehand, the 2 trees greatly in need of trimming and the willow in the back yard that had breathed its last a long time ago. I'll definitely call the folks SEVA Tree Service for any tree trimming or removal in the future.
This work was initiated through SEVATS' coupon offered to Angie's List customers: $99 for $250 worth of work. The price of our needs far exceeded the $250, but that was just the nature of the beast. The total bill was for $850; our out-of-pocket cost was $700 (the coupon brought a net reduction of $150).
Simon and his crew arrived exactly on time. This year their company added a bucket truck to their equipment. Before it arrived, Simon asked if he could prune limbs from two huge pines that overhang both sides of the driveway entrance. He wanted to prune them rather than drive the bucket truck through them and risk ripping them off and damaging the pines. I had my priority list for pruning that Simon and I went over and honestly didn't think they would complete. Once we finished that their crew went to work. As 2015 they are a highly coordinated team - each member had an assigned task and they just went to it. They absolutely flew through my list - with time to spare - Incredible.
I have only found maybe a dozen small twigs in the yards. More than 15 trees were pruned in the back and 8 in the front, so lots of debris transited to their chipper.
Turns out the 2016 business model worked out better than 2015. My recommendation is know that the commute fee is not a big deal because I got a BIGGER BANG for my $'s than last year and I thought last year was fantastic.
Michael and Simon are a great team. Michael has done the quotes and Simon is operations. They deliver a very complete service that is excellent.
