One day I came home to find the plaster work had been done. I called and said the progress was good but there was a rough spot in the plaster where 1 door had been...fairly large area that didn't match existing texture of surrounding wall. I found out later he had inspected, declared that it was a complete botch job, then proceeded to fire the sub-contractor telling them that I had said it was the worst mess I'd ever seen or something to that affect. That plasterer came to my house that night and asked if they could see how bad it really was. We compared stories and realized the story I had told was not the one they heard. They felt it was a simple thing to correct. In the end they were not asked to return and another contractor completed the plaster work.
When painting started we picked a color, they bought the paint and started painting. After it dried it looked pink. So we told them we'd buy another gallon at our expense if they'd complete the painting with the new color; agreed. Later the owner tried to charge me for the gallon of paint that I purchased on my dime.
Final day and we're both in a hurry to get things complete...I didn't want to spend any more face time than I had to. Big mistake. The next day we ran the shower and it backed up. Called the supervisor who came out, tried a manual snake, didn't work, and then told us he would need a power snake. After that he strung us along saying he'd be there the next day only he never returned. Called the owner who claimed it wasn't his problem the drain didn't work; they had stuffed the pipe with a rag during construction. I said the job wasn't complete and did he want to leave the job without it being done. He said his job was done, but if it makes me feel better (laying on the guilt trip) he'd hire a plumber at his own expense to clean the drain. He said he or his supervisor would call me back. They never did. One final text message to inquire about it and all we got was a text message saying they decided they didn't cause the problem so they weren't going to fix it.
Although I had an issue and "fell between the cracks" I am very relieved and thankful it will be taken care of. I am very big on doing the right thing.
******UPDATE*******
Right after Hurricane Sandy blew through I had a slight leak, just enough to stain the ceiling about 8" in diameter. I thought it might have had something to do with the ridge vent I installed. I called them, and Dustin came out the next afternoon to check on it. It wasn't the ridge vent, just a nail nearby that had popped up and out during the storm and allowed a bit of water to seep in. Dustin removed it, caulked the hole and didn't charge me for the visit. As I write this I'm thinking he should have pounded in another nail....oh well we'll see how it goes after this nor'easter comes through.
I paid their "minimum service charge" which was $150. Seems a bit high for the 20 minutes they were here, but certainly not excessive - and it beat the $250. required by one of their competitors (highly rated on Angie's List) who I had used recently for some other roof repair work.
