I loved this place the first couple of times I took my dog there. It's a classic example of looking good on the outside while providing low quality services. They advertise "doggie day care" which consists of nothing more than shutting all the dogs that are currently waiting for service into a small room without windows or they are allowed to run around the service area. My dog started behaving very badly after just one visit there. It's a hodgepodge of dogs sliding around in urine and when you pick up your pet they'll swear it "just" happened. The last time I took my dog there he did not want to stay. He pulled toward the door with all his strength and that is completely out of character for him. He's been there 6 times and still avoids the owner like the plague. When he even sees him he saunters in the opposite direction. I thought this was normal at first because my dog was a puppy but he's warmed up to everyone else and is quite friendly. For some reason this guy creeps him out. I've shown up early and walked back to the salon area and witnessed what was explained as "having a bad day" . A gal was yelling and telling the dogs to shut-up before telling another employee "I can't f-ing" stand this s***". They are over priced, unfriendly, and lack any sincere interest in animals. The last time I picked him up he lunged toward me and couldn't wait to get out of there. And to top it all off I paid for services that were not provided. His hair had clearly not been cut. I asked for a trim around his eyes and face so he can see, a sanitary cut (which includes everything on his under part and around his testicles and backside. The only thing that was any different was the botched shave job done directly around his anus and that's it! And even that looked terrible. The skin looked raw for several days and was uneven. His hair still laid over his eyes exactly how it was when I dropped him off and he smelled like urine. It was all I could do to not go in there and raise h***! I took my little guy to Sweet Frog instead. I recommend going to Fur Frenzy in Hilltop. I've done my investigating and it looks good so far.

everything went great except one of the girls cut one of my dog's hair when the note specifically said bath only.

In reality Preppie Pooch was at one time an outstanding business. They recently released their top groomer and for that reason I can no longer give them a solid recommendation. The groomer in question has taken care of our dog for over ten years. She is one of the few people that our dog truly does not mind being left with and is actually glad to see and lets face it no dog likes their nails clipped. Our family will continue with this groomer where ever she goes because we know our dog will get outstanding care in her hands.

They didn't cage up the dogs, which was nice. They got to roam a little bit. They were friendly.

Overall I loved the atmosphere of Preppie pooch. The staff was professional and curtious. They seemed to really enjoy their job and they were really nice to Remy. I felt as though the price was really reasonable. I got a call that Remy was ready in about an hour. When I picked Remy up I thought he looked really nice and clean. He only received a puppy cut so he didn't have much hair removed. He was a little shaken up, which was to be expected, it was his first time. I took Remy back in about 3 weeks after my initial visit. My fiance' and I wanted to have cut down because of the length of his coat. They were hesitant to give him a cut because they recommended they he should have a total of three puppy cuts to get him use to the process. I explained to them that Remy had already been to Pet Smart a couple of times. So, they said that they would cut him down some. I'm not saying Preppie Pooch did anything wrong but I was not happy with cut. It looked butchered. He did not have a nice even flow to his coat. So, needless to say I found another groomer and the were able to provide the service I wanted. I live in Chesapeake, so the drive to Virginia Beach was a long one; but I willing to make the drive if I received the service I was looking for. I also, didn't like the fact that my Shih tzu (he will be 8 months on the 8th of this month) would have to be fixed by the time he was a year old in order to continue being serviced. I would have hated for Remy to get use to a groomer and then had to switch after a year.

Our dogs are well cared for in Preppie Pooch, and they are happy to go there. I think the price is very good, and I can always get an appointment when I want it.

I have followed Becky, the owner, through four different grooming places until she got her own place, which is Preppie Pooch. When I was getting my transplants the second time around, I had my niece take care of our dog, she had them groomed back in my hometown and they clipped his nails too short. So when I brought him back here, he was still too fresh from that experience, so he nipped at one of the groomers, and they started nuzzling him. That made me mad and that is when I switched to Becky. She was working at the place that I switched to. She left there and moved to other places while this place was getting ready for her and now she has her own grooming business. She is just really, really sweet. All I do is call, say that I need an appointment and she always makes time for him, and tells me to get him in whenever I want to. She is just fabulous. Unless she goes out of business or leaves the area, which is the only way I would quit using her. My dog growled at her and did his little ankle biting type deal, she was just fine with all that, and she was like, and ldquo;If you want to bite me fine, bite me, and bite me here.and rdquo; I liked the way she did that, I had not thought about that. She tickles me.

Dogs were taken to back of salon as soon as I arrived so it was easy to get them checked-in. Various services were discussed and I made my choices. I was told when to expect to be called to pick them up and the call came right on time. The dogs were happy and relaxed when I picked them up so I am sure they were treated well.

My temperamental Chihuahua did not like the first place I took him, he even bit the lady cutting his nails. I took him to Preppie Pooch hoping they would have better results. To my surprise he warmed up to John who was able to scoop him up and hold him without any growling from my dog! I was impressed by the home-like atmosphere and was taken aback when I arrived to pick him up and he was socializing with other dogs. My cranky dog was actually playing nicely with other dogs! I have taken him a second time with the same results, but this time I paid for the facial (they run specials). My baby came home smelling like blueberry pie. His face smelled really good for days, and I loved it! I no longer worry about him biting anyone. I will continue taking him there and feel like I get my moneys worth. More Importantly I have peace of mind that he likes Preppie Pooch as much as I do.

EXCELLENT. I take my short-haired shepherd mix to Preppie Pooch every 2 weeks. Becky and John are wonderful with my dog and others and are very accommodating. I have called on short notice twice and were able to accommodate my dog. A little pricey, but not outrageous, for the attention and thoroughess and loving care they provide to my pooch. They have a web site - pull it up and see the happy doggies! John and Becky are WONDERFUL!!!!
