OKAY CONSTRUCTION

Okay construction took a remodel job on my condo - a 1904 structure. They only have one full time person other than Dirk and Michelle. He was the only one capable of quality work. Dirk continually begged for progress payments despite the fact that they didn't finish the work. The painter they subbed to walked off the job because they weren't finished enough for their work to get done in a timely fashion. Dirk and his one full time employee attempted to paint themselves and used a sprayer on new hardware, spider webs, etc. - it was a mess. They also built out closets that aren't deep enough to hang closet bars for hangars in. I have had the plumbing completely redone since their handiwork. Evantually we ended up in court despite the fact I had specs and drawings to work from. Suggest if you use them you use a standard AIA contract. Dirk is the kind of contractor that sits in his truck and smokes cigarettes. My move in date was postponed twice and finally 10 weeks beyond my original date when I did move in the bathroom and kitchen were not done. I ended up using the port-apotty in the alley, in Ghent, the first night I moved in. Then the next morning I went to the plumbing supply house to buy a new toilet because the orginal one got broken on the jobsite. I had kitchen cabinets delivered on the date they asked for and then they moved them to an unsecured basement that floods on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. I could go on. I think they had good intentions but they likely are not suited for anything but small jobs and new construction. Thye don't appear to have a strong connection to good subs although some folks, like the tile guy seemed to be really good.

Awful. Mostly they would not return our phone calls and never came to the job site. We paid them for work that they never completed.

Okay Construction never completed the job despite receiving prompt payments from us. Work was supposed to be completed in 3 months and 8 months after start of work still was 50% incomplete. We fired them and had to hire a new contractor to finish the work. Work was started about 3 weeks late and there were always excuses for the delays. They said that they couldn't get the decking material that was quoted and that we'd need to find an alternative. After months of delays with them getting us samples and having to go out on our own to find decking, they requested additional payment in order to order the decking. They were paid and they never ordered the decking. We found out later, with the new contractor, that the decking material we originally were quoted was available all along. Overall, a terrible experience and it cost us lots to get the job done with another contractor.
