Went great!! Tony with Monarch Building was excellent! His crew is excellent and they worked every day, bringing my project to completion way in advance of what he initially told me. Any questions or concerns I had were handled promptly and professionally. He was on the job every day and I LOVE my improvements. He pulled a building permit and obtained all inspections quickly.

Our home is a very large (5200 sq ft) Dutch Colonial style home on the water.  It was built in 1974 and because of the location, the wood trim has taken a beating due to the salt air.  Our goal with this remodel was to improve the energy efficiency of the home as well as repair damaged components and improve the appearance of the home.  Monarch started the work in September and completed the project in January.  During this time they had a 3 person crew here promptly at 7am (sometimes earlier) 5 days a week (and sometimes on the weekend).  The only days that were missed were due to weather.  They stuck with the job and did not wander off to start or take care of other projects, as many contractors are known to do.  When the work was started we fully anticipated there would be additional repairs required to the structure and this was the case throughout the project.  The team took great pains to fix anything and everything that needed repairing and ensure that it was done properly with the right materials.  There was nothing left undone or half done.  The quality of the work and craftsmanship was exceptional.  If something didn't look right it was redone.  After the work was completed I found a couple of spots that needed caulking - I called Tony and immediately his team was back to make those adjustments.  Very professional and responsive.  Tony Echea (owner) was on the job site in the morning and in the afternoon.  John (team lead), Brian and Josh were very professional, very courteous and respectful of our property.  They cleaned up each day when they were done for the day. They ensured that exposed areas of the house were secured if it looked like rain was coming.  All in all a very positive experience.  On the price side, I think you can find less expensive contractors, but I firmly believe you get what you pay for.  I never felt I was being taken advantage of.  When I walk around my house and look at the work, I am still amazed at the amount of work they did and the quality of their work.  Exceptional - I highly recommend them.

It went very well. Tony is a very very responsive person. You can message/call him at any reasonable time and he'll get back to you. I have never met a contractor who was that responsive and it gives you a good peace of mind knowing that you're taken care of. Tony also does a great job explaining what all that is involved in the work and what you need to know. He's a great manager of personnel and will have people at your place working at the scheduled time.
For our house, we wanted the reno done before we moved in, so Tony's crew had an empty house. It took approximately 2 weeks. The crew was very respectful and polite. After they finished the job, we found out a few small things were not working (a patch in the closet and electric not connected in garage). We contacted Tony and he arranged to have it fixed and taken care of. Tony is a very honorable guy. A lot of other contractors would charge for the small stuff but Tony considered it part of the job.
Lastly in terms of price, Tony is very reasonably priced given all that you get. He's not the cheapest but not the most expensive. When comparing quotes, the slight difference we paid was well worth the reduction in headache.

Tony Echea stopped by to give me an estimate for the carriage House above the garage.  I received several bids and decided to go with Tony's bid.  His by no means was the cheapest nor was it the most expensive but he was the most responsive out of the 5 or so Builders I contacted.  During the entire process, he was VERY easy to communicate with.  either by Phone, text or email.  Ihad so many changes and so many "great ideas" but Tony managed to ensure that I stay within my budget.  This project could have easily gone 50% over the budget, but Tony was able to keep me in check vice allowing me to spend more money.  I am sure other builders would have kept saying yes to me since it would mean more profit for them.  Tony is a stand up guy and if I ever have a major project I would hire him again and I would have no problem recommending him to my neighbors, friends and family.
As with any major construction, there's always minor things that needs to be touched up or adjusted.  Everytime I found something Tony never hesitated to fix the issue.  Unlike the LR HIll who built my TH, trying to get them to fix warranty items is like pulling your own teeth!
Do yourself a favor and hire Tony Echea of Monarch Building for your home remodeling job or even if you want to build your own house from ground up!

Mr. Echea arrived on time for our initial appointment and was very courteous and professional. Our bathroom remodel from start to finish well exceeded our expectations since this was the first home improvement.

In 2013, I gave Monarch Building a D rating based on a lack of professionalism and poor quality of work on various aspects of a large home addition and remodel project, including (among others) : insufficient framing crew, poor construction technique on roof requiring architect input to resolve, water leaks in crawl space due to poor plumbing connections, hardwood floor buckling in the large opening between the family room and kitchen because the elevation of the addition foundation and subfloor did not match the existing (has since split and require replacement), poor tile work in a master bathroom shower (have since needed to re-tile floor pan because did not drain properly), and using my tools and bathroom without permission. I ended up firing them and withholding a final payment of $5000 on a $160,000 contract when it became apparent they were not interested in truly correcting the faulty construction I knew about at the time. That was not enough, but all the leverage I had at the time. In a response to my comment on Angie's List, Monarch Building stated that had tried contacting me multiple times to resolve the issues I reported. Unfortunately that was not true. It is now 2017 and I have more recently discovered additional and more serious faulty construction. I can only conclude that although Mr. Echea holds a Virginia Class A contractor license, Monarch Building was both incompetent and dishonest in the conduct of my project. Recently observed/discovered problems and code violations include, but are not limited to: 1) As documented by a licensed electrician – a live, but freely dangling electrical wire buried in one finished wall; and a live, but uncovered junction box plastered over in another, additional uncovered junction boxes in the attic. 2) As documented by a licensed structural engineer - missing roof and wall support studs/posts contributing to ceiling and wall cracks, and improperly constructed subfloor support in the master bedroom resulting in a sinking floor where a new and existing foundation meet. 3) Improperly fastened roof joists and missing blocking in subfloor. 4) Improperly constructed header beam over opening between family room and dining nook. 5) Incomplete roof sheathing [cut 2 - 3 inches short of fascia board] underneath shingles over a dining nook and an Improperly flashed overhang in another area. 6) Undersized header over a door. 7) Just this week verified by a licensed plumber - numerous wastewater drain lines were not vented correctly and do not meet building code requirements, including the kitchen island and the master bath toilet, shower, and tub. All of this will cost significant additional money to repair. I intend to document the above and additional violations to the Board for Contractors and Better Business Bureau in Virginia and am considering a lawsuit. I would seriously advise anyone thinking of using Monarch Building to look elsewhere.

"Thank you for your feedback. It is unfortunate that after multiple attempts to contact this member they left this review. Our company strives to provide the best customer service and it is very frustrating we aren’t even in communication with this member at all. The member is also still behind in payments. Please read our other reviews to gauge a more accurate description of our company. Thank you, Tony Echea Owner"

We are extremely pleased with the work done by Monarch Builders. Tony, Tommy and John were professional and performed the work to our specific requests. When we were unsure of how we wanted our dormers to look, they provided great suggestions and did one as an example for us to review before they proceeded. The end product were great looking dormers thanks to their great suggestions. Whenever we had questions or saw something that needed to be addressed, they were always quick to answer and address any concerns. They were even able to get me back into my home after I mistakenly locked myself out. Working with Monarch was a great experience.

Tony & his crew were professional & fun to work with. Tony sent a written estimate before some of the other contractors bothered to call me back ! After he finished my garage I recommended him to my neighbors. Tony did roof work on one house and put a new roof on another. Both neighbors were happy with his work.

They were great.  They were easy to work with, conscientious, and Johnny-on-the-spot.  He sent me a written estimate before the other guys even called me back.  He did roofing jobs for both of my neighbors on either side and they are also happy with him.  He was always right there and always called back.  I got along with him and the crew, and it was a positive experience.  Everything worked out well.   I thought it was a good price.  They even came out 7:00 AM on Memorial Day; you can’t beat that.

It went very well. Tony and his crew were professional and finished on schedule. Their work was high quality and they worked with us on modifications we decided on late in the project. We decide to do some of the finish work ourselves to put in some sweat equity and they were happy to give us advice. A number of the other contractors we considered had no interest in working that way. Overall it was a great experience.

They did an excellent job. There were a few loose ends that we had problems with, but they were taken care of eventually. The major part of the process went very quickly. It met our expectations in the end.
