I called Metro Mechanical to check out my geothermal system to make sure everything was ok for the coming winter, I wanted to make sure there should be no problems.  The technician who arrived was on time and very friendly and knowledgeable.  Great price and did not try to sell me anything.

Refered by a friend.  Called and set up an appointment the very next day.  Company was only a half mile away from our house.  They called to say they would be at our house in 30 minutes.  They called again when they were 5 minutes away.  Arrived on time.  The technician checked the outside unit (never checked inside unit).  Tech said I needed 2 lbs of freon.  Did not perform leak check.  Serviced system with 2 lbs of freon.  System blowing nice and cool now.  The only issue was price: They charged us a $25.00 trip charge (they were less than a half mile away)  $85.00 for one hour of labor, $170.00 for 2 lbs of freon.  After paying the billl I did alittle research on the price of freon.  Companies pay between $7.00 and $20.00 a pound for freon.  So I think $170.00 for 2 lbs of freon is a little excessive.  And then there was the $25.00 trip charge driving less than a half mile to the house.  Service was good but their prices are outrageous.  If they were more fairly priced I could recommend them, but after calling around and internet research, I would not recommend them.
Response from Metro Mechanical Corp
"[Member name removed], Thank you for your feedback. While we do understand that the price of freon and trip charge seemed a bit much for you please realize that the trip charge is a standard fee among many companies that require travel to assist in recovering the expenses from the vans, auto insurance, gas, etc. so we are able to keep the hourly service rates down. In regards to the freon, please know that freon prices vary with market demand and the amount they are producing. Our freon rates are based on the price we pay for freon, and not far from what we paid. Please know that we strive to be competitive in pricing as to ensure that all customers are satisfied."

In the previous year, Metro installed a new gas boiler for me, and I was happy with their work. He had talked me out of a modern high efficiency system, but his reasons were sound. During the winter of 2008, half of my downstairs was inadequately heating, and my master bedroom also had no heat. They advised me to have a downstairs radiator removed and cleaned. This took about 5 hours during October of 2008. No parts were replaced. Initially this seemed to do the trick, but after a week, the heat started to dwindle in the same places. They returned to adjust the system pressure, and everything worked for the remainder of the winter. My charge for this was $1,096.50. I thought this was a bit high for 5 hours of labor with no new parts. I noticed that in their bill, they had charged me for removing 2 radiators instead of just 1. I wrote them a letter immediately stating as much, but I didn't hear back until June 2009. In June, they e-mailed a new bill with more specific (INCREASED) charges! I'll describe them briefly: 1. Removed water pressure from boiler and drained system. Removed radiator from living room and bedroom. Reinstalled and repressurized...$935 2. Returned to adjust pressure...$110 3. Initial check of radiator and piping...$95 4. Return check on boiler and piping...$85 5. Trip Charge...$75 Total Charge = $1300 My plan is to pay the $1300, and never use them for any service again. Perhaps others can learn from my experience.
Response from Metro Mechanical Corp
"[Member name removed], I have reviewed the service ticket for your residence. Please note there was a total of 14 hours spent at your home correcting the problem with your radiators. I believe the 5.5 that you are referencing are on the top line, but that is 5.5 hours for two men (therefore 11 hours). I apologize and will ensure that the hours are more clearly stated in the future for each individual."
