Unfortunately, I live alone and have a fairly rigid work schedule so that either my sister or I let the team in on most occasions and then one of us returned to lock the house when they were done, meaning neither of us knew exactly how long it took for the house to be cleaned. Because $210 is a lot of money, I could only afford to hire the cleaners every 3 - 6 months. The company was always responsive to my scheduling requests, which I appreciated. Much to my surprise, I was even able to have a cleaning team work on Christmas Eve morning. Although I had to work for a few hours that day, I was able to schedule the cleaning for the morning before I went to work. The team arrived promptly and stayed for 1 1/2 hours. They finished and I went to work happy that my house was clean until a few months later, when my sister was moving and I got an entirely different feeling. Although I spent a few hours cleaning at her new house with her, neither of us had time to clean it thoroughly before her move-in date. I called Maid for You to set up a move-in clean for her and came to realize that the $70 per hour charge is for 2 cleaners for 60 minutes - a true charge per hour spent cleaning and not a charge per man-hour where two cleaners for an hour would be two man-hours or $140.
This understanding of the way the hourly rate is charged made me realize that I had paid for 3 hours of cleaning on Christmas Eve but only gotten 1 1/2 hours of work. I have always been satisfied with the work done so I scheduled my sisters cleaning and one for my house but I asked if I could be compensated for what I overpaid on December 24, 2010. I had no idea of how much time had been actually spent on other cleaning visits but I know for sure how long the cleaners were here on Christmas Eve and I suspected that I had overpaid on most of the visits. I talked to Kelly in the office several times. Kelly explained that the teams aren't told how much time is allowed so that it was an honest mistake if the team spent less time cleaning than I was charged for. That seemed odd, but, I accepted the explanation. I asked if they could verify how much time the team spent in December someway so that I could have a credit towards my next cleaning for the amount I overpaid. Kelly explained that they don't keep records of the time the teams report so that she had no way of checking into it but that she would talk to the book keeper and see if anything could be arranged. When called again, I was told that no adjustments could be made after the fact but Kelly did offer to put on the paperwork the team was given when they were sent to my house that this time they were scheduled for 2 hours and to report it if the time was over or under.
To me, this is an integrity issue. Someone has to know how much time was allowed to clean my house and how much time the team was paid for. I reported my concerns as soon as I realized that there was a discrepency. While I want to believe that some kind of honest mistake was made, I feel as if I was taken advantage of. How can you schedule a service which is charged by the hour without tracking the time? Although nothing in my home was ever disturbed or missing and although the teams did a good job, I will not be hiring this company again and I can't in good conscience recommend them.
