Terrible experience. The tech (Paul) came out, spent two hours conducting diagnostics. Quoted me a price for the diagnostics at double the cost most other companies as well as parts mark up being double. The customer service was awful, and the tech was extremely rude when asked any questions as if he couldn't be bothered to explain pricing or services... so I decided to go with another company that charged half the cost. When sent the invoice the following day they had tacked on additional charges for diagnostics despite having been told the cost the night before. When asked what the additional charges were for excuses were made with no real answers. Finally after a little rebuttal I paid the price I had originally been told. I will never use them again, and suggest you don't as well.

Worst experience with a company ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew immediately something wasn't right with them when the technician Paul lied to my face about not removing a couple screws I left securing the cover for my outside unit the night before. The cover was partially off and screws were missing but he said he didn't mess with it. Not sweating a couple screws, I allowed them to continue troubleshooting. Once the leak was found on the coil, I asked for an estimate for the repairs and he looked at me confused. He later said, "lets throw a number at it, $1800". I then said, lets not just throw a number at it and tell me actual cost. There was zero customer service, he became frustrated because I wanted to know what I was paying for. With attitude he said, fine I will write it up. His estimate included an extra 2 hours ($125 per hr) from the poorly put together verbal quote. And the coil had insane markup, $800!!! Needless to say I kicked him out and got another company to do the repairs for $1200, including 2 free service checks. Coil was $500 vice $800 and labor was $60 vice $125! Do not use Hare's Heating and Cooling. RUN AWAY!!!

He would come out in the middle of the night on a Sunday night, it didn't matter. He was very responsive, very professional. He didn't charge you until the job was done. If I were in Virginia Beach he would be the first person I would call every time. He was always my "go to", would be my first call him every time. I've used him for years. He's always been responsive. He comes to help out no matter what and he doesn't charge until the job is done. His responsiveness, fairness, and communication were superb to most people we have talked to before.

I had met Troy Hare while he worked on a friends home. He was scrupulously honest and excellent to deal with. when I had him work on my own home, he told me what to watch for and what not to waste my money on. He gave me references on other tradesmen who are retired military like him, and I will use them also.

Last fall, during my annual inspection of upstairs and downstairs heating/cooling units, the company that did it said my upstairs unit was leaking.  It was 12 years old - so made sense that its time was about up.    I got three estimates to replace my upstairs cooling unit.  Two of them were off Angie's list and one was the original installer of my systems.     Troy Hare was extremely responsive and nice  - I just got a really good feeling about him.  Although he gave me a complete system quote -   He was the only one of the three that suggested I didn't  really need to replace the furnace part - as it looked good and he said if he took it out he was just going to resell it.  He gave me a quote just on the air part, matching it up to the furnace brand we have.    My husband and I talked about it and decided only replacing the cooling part was the way to go.   From reading on line about various systems, most sites just said find a contractor you trust - and go with a well known brand and you will be fine.   Most of the brands come with a 10 year warranty. 
Troy was prompt both times he came - the first time for the estimate and the second time when he came to install.   In my mind  a contractor first needs to be responsive to a phone call, then show up as promised and  he did both.  He showed me what he did today - and had me check all parts of the installation.    He is just a really nice guy who in my gut I felt I could trust.  Before he left he made sure I went on line and registered the systems - so I would have the warranty coverage.  He promised to come back in the spring when we first turn on the air to make sure it's working as it should.    I like it when a contractor basically says what he will do then does it.

CHe was called on 10/15/2013 to come and verify the issues stated by the home inspector. The appointment was set for 10/16/2013 in at 10:00 A.M. He was punctual and went right to work. He inspected the heating and cooling unit inside and cleaned it. Then he worked outside checking and correcting problems that were flagged by the home inspector. Some problems did not exist as had been stated by the inspector and other issues that could have been problematic were entirely missed during the home inspection. He fixed those items and was finished in a timely manner. He also gave us advise regarding the upkeep of our heating/cooling system.
Several days later we decided to update our thermostat on the 1st floor and called him for advise. He was out of town but answered his cell phone and helped us get the correct replacement. He stated that the repair was simple and could be done by us. He also stated if we had problems during the installation to call him back and he would walk us through each step. We updated the thermostat successfully and did not need to call him back.
We were so impressed with this person. He took extreme pride in his work and was very experienced in all aspects of heating and cooling! We have lived at the Norfolk House for 20 years and have had 4 different major HVAC companies do service on our old unit. None of them could compare to Mr. Hare! As a matter of fact, the last group Climatemakers did not properly connect a section with wires that was associated with our compressor! We paid lots of money to Climatemakers for that old service call.
We are going to update our new home with a standby propane generator and in house transfer switch and absolutely will call Mr. Hare to do the job in the next month.

Contacted Hare's around 3:30pm to see if I could get an appointment to troubleshoot and repair the heat on my package Heating/AC unit. They returned my phone call around 4:30 and walked me through some simple steps to see if they could fix problem over the phone and help determine the problem. After walking through all the steps, he said he would be out to my house to see what the problem was He showed up about 5:15 and starting working on the system. He quickly found a bad capacitor and a bad switch which he had both in his truck, repairs completed by 6:45. Repairs completed, he double checked system was working and walked through what he did with me. I was extremely surprised that he was willing to come out without an appointment and me not get charged an overtime fee. Parts cost were also extremely reasonable and not the typical 200% mark up. Quick response, professional and reasonable price - I will be using Hare's Heating and Cooling in the future. Highly recommended.

Update: A week later we had another cold period and we turned the heating system back on - no heat. Called Mr. Hare and he came out immediately in the evening (7:00pm). Switch he had replaced was bad again -switch was safety switch for burner. The burner had a crack and was burning the switch out, he could not tell the issue on first switch because of the rust on it. He provided several options and took information for unit to check to see if unit was still under warranty. Called back next day after speaking with manufacture (BRYANT) and unit was still under warranty however the model burner was no longer produced. The manufacture would provide a new burner but I would have to purchase and pay for an adapter kit for installation. Mr Hare provided me several options and I decided to just replace the unit to prevent future problems. Mr. Hare quoted us a unit (Goodman) which was best price we found when calling around. He had it delivered on 11NOV and he and three others showed up at 8:00am, they removed old unit, replaced pad, installed new unit and re-piped the natural gas all before noon and had everything cleaned up and checked out. He deducted the cost of the first visit because he said he did not fix the problem. One of the most professional individuals I have meet. He goes out of his way to do quality work for a fair price. I would recommend him to everyone.

See above. As Mr. Hare was so honest with us we will be calling Hare's for any problems and when it is time to replace the system. He could have charged us to replace the duct work and we would have never known any different.

We bought our home in September 2010 with a brand new HVAC system. Come December, found out there was no heat coil. The company sent by our insurance company was horrible, and completely misdiagnosed everything. Troy came out on his way out of town in the snow to diagnose the problem, for free. He fixed it within the week on his way BACK into town quickly and efficiently. He was kind to my animals, kind to us and kind to my home. I have used him twice when we blew our AC unit, and he's always willing to come out at any time.

From the very first contact to the final installation this contractor was very responsive, was fair in pricing, professional and completed the installation in less time than anticipated. His two workers were professional and cleaned up when they were done. He also emailed and asked me to call him the next morning to let him know how everything worked overnight. I would recommend calling this contractor for HVAC work.
