While we did not directly employ Farris Marine to do our dock or bulkhead, we had the VERY unfortunate experience of being the neighbor of someone who did. Our neighbors had contracted Farris to build a pier and bulkhead on their property. which directly abuts ours (we are also on the water). Several weeks prior to beginning construction, the contractor parked a large, rusted 'junk' barge directly in front of our property. It remained there the entire time of the construction (MONTHS) while the work on my neighbor's pier proceeded VERY slowly (again--MONTHS--see other reviews on Yellow Pages, etc.). After it became clear that this barge was not in any way actually being used by Farris for the actual construction (there was (1) other working barge as well that was), we asked the work crew if they could tow off this very unsightly scrapheap, now 'beached' on our bank which wasn't actually being using for construction. He told us, "Oh, no problem, we'll make it a priority." Little did we know there was no intention of moving it. To make a long story short, it is still sitting in front of us, weeks after the construction was complete. The entire fiasco has gone on since the fall--we are talking over 6 months. After a couple of phone messages, Mr. Farris has still not returned our calls. We have contacted VMRC, the City of Virginia Beach, and the Wetlands Board and apparently they have now declared it (the barge) officially 'abandoned.' The contractor clearly lied on several occasions about his intentions to move his 'junk' equipment--we later learned from one of the agencies we contacted that the company moves their 'junk barges' from one customer's house to another because they have no place to keep them. On top of all of this, my wife and I have our home listed for sale, and having this unsightly scrap metal in our waterfront view isn't exactly what we would have desired. All in all, we would never use this company because of their lack of consideration, their unresponsiveness and apparent dishonesty.
