Chucks' Construction Co

Chuck provided custom cabinets for the kitchen and two bathrooms for a renovation to my dad's small ranch house in Virginia Beach. His pricing was not much more than stock cabinets from the big box stores. The end result was beautiful, and the service has been top notch.

I am extremely disappointed with the work done by Chuck's Construction on our kitchen remodel. We decided to reface our kitchen and redo the island, but it has been a nightmare from the start. The painting on the cabinet doors is already chipping, and the colors don't match because they couldn't get the shades of white right. Instead of returning our cabinets in better condition, they came back with more dents than before and were never properly filled or sanded as promised in the contract. The lazy susans they installed are a mess – chipped wood, dented frames, and a sloppy lacquer job. To make matters worse, our countertops were installed incorrectly with measurements that were clearly inaccurate. One countertop is half an inch higher than the other, and yet they had the audacity to call it a great installation. We've had to bring in new contractors to fix Chuck's Construction's mistakes on our countertops, and we're now seeking another cabinet company to redo the botched painting job. Despite our attempts to communicate and resolve these issues, Chuck's Construction has ghosted us and refuses to honor their commitment to fix the incomplete and substandard work they left behind. Overall, our experience with Chuck's Construction has been a complete letdown. They've demonstrated a lack of professionalism, poor craftsmanship, and a dismissive attitude towards customer concerns.

The work went well. Chuck did a great job of understanding my needs, suggesting helpful changes, communicating the plans, documents, schedule with me, and once installed, the cabinets were beautiful. However, shortly after installation, paint began chipping off drawers and cabinets in rather large flakes, almost as if they weren’t primed correctly. I called to report the problem, and CCS picked up the damaged pieces and repainted them without question. Sadly, the problem began again after they were re-installed. I emailed CCS and explained the problem and received a terse reply from Chuck’s secretary, saying she put me on the schedule, but that they couldn’t fit me in any time soon. She also stated that they had already touched the cabinets up once and advised that I should only be using Windex on them and not harsh chemicals. That email was dated August 10, 2018. I responded, noting her lack of patience, but emphasizing that after such a costly project I was hoping for better durability. I have not heard from them since. It could be that Chuck never received my request for repair, that it never made it past his secretary, I don’t know. However, I DO know that I paid a LOT of money for those cabinets and they are NOT holding up well at all. I use only warm water on them and wipe them dry with a cotton cloth. I use no harsh chemicals. Additionally, I don't appreciate the implication that the paint was peeling because I wasn't careful with their upkeep. The cabinets themselves are well made, sturdy, and beautiful but the quality of the work is not the issue. Regardless of the workmanship, they look cheap because of all the peeling paint. I'm disappointed in the lack of response from the business and wouldn't use them again. I'm now left something I don't know how to fix.
