I contracted Atlantic Beach Movers to relocate my belongings from Virginia Beach, Virginia, to Pennsylvania. The agreed-upon price was $4,200, with an additional $100 for insurance to cover any lost, stolen, or damaged items. The movers arrived on time on the day of the move, and the contract guaranteed same-day delivery of my belongings. I designated an area in the house where items that were not to be moved were placed, as my roommate was still living there. Despite clear instructions, the movers packed everything in the house, including items that were meant to stay behind. When I addressed this issue with the crew, they refused to unpack the items. I informed them that I would have to return to Virginia later to bring back those belongings. I explained this to multiple members of the moving team. The move initially seemed to proceed smoothly, and I left to get pizza for the movers as a gesture of appreciation. After loading the truck, they informed me that they had additional moves scheduled that day and would be picking up items from two other locations before proceeding to Pennsylvania. I began my drive to Pennsylvania, which took approximately six hours in the rain and darkness. I arrived at my new residence at 10:45 PM, expecting the movers to have already arrived or to arrive shortly after. When they did not show up, I contacted the company owner to inquire about their whereabouts. The owner was unaware of their location but eventually informed me that the movers would not be delivering my belongings that night, contrary to the contractual agreement. Had I been informed of the delay, I would have stayed in Virginia, where I had access to essential items and proper accommodations. Instead, I arrived at an empty home without any necessities. I was forced to make a late-night trip to Target to purchase over $300 worth of supplies, including bedding, cleaning materials, dog food, and a dog crate. The movers arrived the following morning. The unloading process was disorganized and unprofessional, resulting in significant damage to my property. Items were improperly packed, leading to: • Tears and cuts in my couches. • Scratches and gouges on my floors. • Holes in the walls of my new residence. Additionally, several items were lost or broken during the move, despite my having paid for insurance coverage. Since the move, I have repeatedly attempted to resolve these issues with the company. I provided a detailed breakdown of the damages and requested reimbursement. The owner, however, refused to compensate me unless I removed truthful online reviews about my experience. I believe this demand is unethical and unreasonable. The reviews I posted were honest and factual, and I should not be coerced into removing them to receive compensation. I also proposed that the company refund my $2,250 security deposit to cover the damages caused to my Pennsylvania residence, which will not be returned by my landlord. The owner refused, claiming the amount was excessive, despite the evidence of damages I provided. The company’s failure to fulfill the contract, unprofessional handling of my property, and refusal to honor their obligations under the insurance policy have left me no choice but to file this lawsuit. I contend that the contract was voided when they failed to deliver my belongings on the agreed date, as promised. This business has demonstrated unprofessional and unethical conduct, and I am seeking fair compensation for the damages, lost items, and additional expenses incurred as a result of their negligence.
