This was the second time I used this service.
The first, last year, they cut up and removed a tree which had fallen. In that instance, the workers did not want to remove the portion of the trunk in the flower bed and extending to the base, behind a hedge, although I thought that was included in the contract. They finally removed the trunk far enough back into the hedge so that the remainder is hidden from view.
The last time, Chris had once again given me an estimate to complete work and, when the workers arrived, they argued with me about what was to be done, including obscure definitions of what a main branch means, and the "foreman" wouldn't look at the written estimate. When the work was complete, instead of the eight large branches I thought were to be removed, only two plus two dead and already broken off "branches" were removed; the largest, heaviest branch remained.
The tree's lean increased following a week-and-a-half of rain and we decided to have it removed completely due to safety concerns. I left messages at the office and on Chris' voicemail, hoping he would come out and provide an estimate and, after discussing what had happened previously, charge a tad less than others might.
Chris, nor anyone else, has ever called back and we had another tree service remove the tree last week.
"As always, Alleys Tree takes all of its reviews seriously. I remember [Removed Member name] well, as we have been out to his property several times. All work was completed per contracts and we never receive payment until all work is completed and satisfactory. The last time we provided services for [Removed Member name] was March of this year when he was noting upheaving of the root collar on his Oak tree. We did an assessment and recommended that the tree be removed on Feb 9, 2015. [Removed Member name] noted that he would like to keep the tree and were there any options such as reducing the weight of the crown available or adding additional soil on the root structure. We took that into consideration and explained that additional topsoil would have no affect on the stability but it is possible to reduce weight of the crown in an attempt to prevent as much drag as possable and lean of the tree. When our crew showed up, they provided the work that was listed on the job sheet which says specifically remove two main branches, 1 dead branch and 1 branch to the right and thin out as well. The climber made the cuts and the crew removed the debris and raked the yard. As to how much of the top was thinned out I am not sure of, as all workers and [Removed Member name] are on the ground 120 ft below the crown of the tree. Alleys Tree trusts the expertise of its climbers. They are trained and follow the International Society of Arborculture guidelines and remove any dead wood and non viable branches to protect the health of the tree. At the completion of the job I received no calls as to any disagreement or understanding of the contract and payment was made in full. We noted in writing that the root collar and tree was upheaving and exposed and that we cannot guarantee that the tree will not fail due to wind or storm damage. The follow up to his last delimma about not being able to reach us I am not sure of. We talked to [Removed Member name] early in the summer months, approx late May or early June and he had made comments that the tree was still upheaving and getting worse and would like a quote. [Removed Member name] was going to do some traveling and said he would contact us when he got back. That is the last time we can recall any contact with him. We are not perfect, but feel this is unwarranted, as we have done two separate jobs for [Removed Member name] and they were pleasant and never said anything to the contrary to me about being dissatisfied and if he was why would he call us back. My apologies if he feels that we did anything wrong but my notes show we did everything as contracted to."
They were all professional, nice to work with and friendly.
Had a little accident on their last day on the job. They knocked down our custom cedar fence with a huge runaway section of the 60 year old tree. We had our carpenter/builder come rebuild the sections of the fence We paid him for his work, then when I paid Chris for his company's work, I itemized the bill, showing the deduction for Mr. Peterson's (Mi Familia Construction) rate and materials.
I would definitely recommend Alleys to others! Everyone makes mistakes, and it's not easy directing a 5' by 3' section of oak tree to the ground from 30 feet up in the air.
