AAA of Tidewater VA

Punctual and competent tow ... except at the end, where the driver didn't assess the delivery site very well. He was a little off on his alignment of the tow truck, so the 'landing spot' was not as good as I would have liked. Had to adjust the truck afterwards for the mechanic.

AAA 24/7 emergency intake phone rings in a call center in Missouri. When I called at about 6:11 a.m. the agent stated they would dispatch a tow truck. Nothing happened. Another call later by me at 7:55 a.m elicited an unhelpful, vague response that they could see the street on some mapping system and that I was "in the system". Nothing happened. At 8:10 a.m. I was able to speak to AAA "Southside Dispatch", at my insistence to the Missouri call center. The Southside Dispatch was courteous, but admitted it only had two AAA tow trucks working. At 9:25 a.m. a tow truck appeared. The AAA driver, though friendly, spoke to my by cell phone, and announced that the water was too deep, even though I was standing in it and it was below my knees. He would not tow my car and advised I should call back when "the water recedes". AAA stated that "tow truck driver safety" was the reason for no help. The water did not recede, and my car remained stuck in the street. In mid afternoon, at 2:35 p.m., I recontacted AAA( it is answered in Missouri). The dispatcher there stated AAA locally had no equipment/driver it would use if my car was in water. By then, passenger pickup trucks of neighbors were going up and down my street. I then was able to contact Logan's Towing of Virginia Beach. 7 57-498-8203. The dispatcher for Logan promised its tow truck would come out, and within 45 minutes it appeared. The driver was quite experienced and very knowledgeable about where to attach the towing cable to the center frame bolt on my car. He said he'd towed many same make cars over his career. He waded into the street water with me. The water was still below our knees. He snapped on the cable to my car and hauled the car up on to the tilting ramp and aboard the tow truck within minutes. He then courteously allowed me to ride with him as he towed it to a dealer. The cost was very reasonable and only the normal charge of $85.00. Logan's did not take advantage of the situation by charging any more than normal. The contrast between the "can do" attitude of Logan's Towing and the inept, overly bureaucratized, and ultimately useless response of AAA was stark. AAA, you have much work to do to create an adequate sized tow truck fleet. It is obvious AAA of Tidewater is unprepared to work effectively in weather emergencies. It has failed to plan for sufficient, reliable and timely responses. It is not helpful to the AAA customer to be reassured that the call is "in the AAA system", but no action takes place. AAA, get to work.

They came promptly after I called, changed my left front tire and even offered to wait with me. AAA is an amazing organization who comes WHEN YOU NEED THEM, for jumps or flat ties or accidents or keys locked in cars. I've NEVER had a bad experience with them and having been with them almost 20 years I think that says something.

the tow went fine but the other services were terrible. Twice they showed up in the dark for a flat tire w/o flashlight. Once they left their own equipment at the house. Unable to get the spare tire out of the car so they had to tow a car. Twice they did not show up at all, once after waiting 3 hours in the mountains. The 3 hour wait and then no show was a lock out caused by child. The rangers tried a second time to break in the van and damaged the window hardware. I had AAA help pay for that damage since they didn't show. Heard lots of excuses but they aren't important when the whole family is locked out of a car 4 hours from home w/o money(in car).. Multi calls, people on phone totally ignorant of geography, and location. By then I was crying and very upset. Very hard to get through on the lines twice. Husband had changed the tire before I even got through on the lines. I called and complained each time. Service is expensive and each member added is around another 40 to 60 dollars. I am not renewing the service this year. Changed over to USAA for $1.00 per car per month and that covers all the drivers. Unfortunately not many roadside services available.

They were very prompt and fast. I signed up for a new membership when I had the problem and they came right away.

I was really overwhelmed when I locked the keys in my car. My purse was in there too. I called AAA and they were able to find me based upon personal questions they asked me. When the locksmith came, he was done in no time. I highly recommend AAA of Tidewater.

AAA is a very good company that is well worth having. Anytime I need them they are there. The last time I locked my keys in the car, they were right there within five minutes. Their pricing is also great. You can purchase different packages. I have the super package, which includes everything. I pay them yearly and I feel it is really good and fair. Being that I tend to do this often, I am glad I have them on my side.

This was one of the few times I have been able to utilize my membership with AAA. Their response time was wonderful. They were at my location within thirty minutes, and had the vehicle unlocked in less than five minutes. I also liked the technician who helped me. He was personable, and tried to lighten my mood as he was working.
