Gary did a good job! He was professional and helpful during difficult times. The prices were reasonable and less than others locally.

Ask for Robert and know that you can call him as often as you need to; he was always responsive by phone or in person.

Funeral Homes
We visited the Money and King funeral home on Monday, March 18, 2013, to make arrangements for funeral. We were given a tour of the facility including both a large and small viewing area. Only the small viewing area was available for day we wanted viewing so it was very crowded during the viewing. We were shown two rooms of caskets. An estimate was given to us that was higher than expected. We asked for a package deal to help reduce costs but that was refused. We found the same casket for sale over the internet by another funeral home with next day delivery for about $2000 less cost. We knew federal law required all funeral homes to accept a casket if purchased elsewhere without raising the price of their other services. When we suggested this as a way to save money they said often caskets purchased over the internet arrived damaged or late and that we would be responsible. Also they said we would have to be at Money and King when the casket was delivered, that we would have to unpack it and dispose of any packing materials. Lastly, they said if we didn't buy the casket from them they would not provide extras such as a tri-fold brochure, prayer card, and video slideshow of the deceased. Bottom line is they have high prices that are fixed and non-negotiable. Their big money maker is caskets so they use scare tactics and eliminate so called and quot;extrasand quot; when purchase elsewhere is suggested. The scare tactics worked so we paid the full price.
At all times we were treated with kindness and respect. The staff was always in attendance and everything went smoothly. However, because of the high price and unwillingness to negotiate any price reduction our family will not use Money and King in the future.

Funeral Homes
They are wonderful. I had power of attorney of a friend of mine so I prepaid for the funeral. She wanted to be cremated and put in Arlington. They were absolutely wonderful during the time of selecting the urn and everything. They arranged everything with Arlington Cemetery. I even received a thank you note last week. They were so professional and so kind in so many aspects. I had to recognize the body before the cremation and they were so loving. I trust them, which is very important. I trust them. They are the best. The price was good. In fact, because I prepaid, I saved $200.00. The lady who is in charge and the people around her made it very easy for me. We had some trouble releasing the body from the hospital and they helped me with that. I would use them again if I needed to.

We knew that most people leave the remains of miscarried and stillborn babies at the hospital to be cremated with the medical waste, but could not envision leaving our daughter to be disposed of with removed appendixes and tumors, with no grave to visit. We realized we needed a funeral home to cremate our daughter, and we didn't know any funeral homes, nor whether any of them would be able to (or willing to) cremate someone so small. We knew it would probably be a challenge to cremate someone so small and have anything left to return, and to keep her ashes from simply dissipating in the chamber. We couldn't find information on any of the local funeral home websites to indicate whether they could or would cremate babies that had passed away. Also, disposal with the hospital medical waste is free, and we couldn't find information on what it would cost to cremate through a funeral home. But, we had to make a choice and sign the paperwork telling the hospital which funeral home to turn her remains over to, and it was the middle of the night, so we didn't feel we could call to check. The hospital had a list of local funeral homes that supposedly handled babies, but they couldn't tell us who could or would cremate, since they said most families that send the child's remains to a funeral home indicate that they are choosing burial, not cremation. Having no way to check, we chose this funeral home because we remembered that they had once had an ad on the back of our church bulletin, and hoped they wouldn't take advantage of the fact that we had signed up without knowing the price. When I called a few days later to make sure they knew to expect the call from the hospital to pick up our daughter's remains, the man who answered the telephone was quiet, calm, professional, and caring. He transferred me to Angel, who gently but efficiently found out what I wanted, not only cremation vs. burial, but whether a funeral service or memorial service or no service, whether I simply wanted her ashes returned or buried, whether I wanted a specific box or urn or just to have her returned. She did not try to sell me on anything and was open about the process and timing, and very open to letting me choose the timing of when I was ready to come in and deal with paperwork. When I came in to deal with the paperwork, they streamlined it as best as possible, were quiet and low-key and non-intrusive, and patient with the children I had with me who were wiggly and less than perfectly quiet. They were honest about the fact that early babies are so small that it is sometimes difficult to find anything left after cremation, and explained the metal container they cremate little ones in, to make sure that all cremated remains of the little one that it is possible to return will be returned. They gave me the option of whether to positively identify the remains when they arrived from the hospital or to accept that the hospital had sent the correct remains, and the option of whether to watch the cremation or have it occur when I wasn't present. It was thoughtful, and they tried to make this as painless as it could be. And still, no hard-sell. We had found out in the meantime that cremations for adults in this area can run into the several thousands, so we were braced for a $1,000+ price tag, thinking that even though babies are smaller, they couldn't charge less than a third of what the cost is for adults... but when she finally brought up cost, at the very end, she told me that they normally charge $250 for cremating miscarried or stillborn children, but that they had waived the fee. She kept in contact by phone to let me know why there was a delay, that the hospital had not turned over the remains when expected, and called again when we could come to pick up the ashes. They were extremely kind when I came to pick up the ashes, and offered to sit and talk with me anytime I needed to, let me know I could feel free to return and ask questions or talk. We did not opt for a funeral, memorial service, nor burial, and did not buy an urn nor a specific container. We wanted a family member to make a special container for our daughter's ashes, and to bury her on family land. So I didn't know what they would put her ashes in, as we had given them nothing to put the ashes in, and bought nothing from them to put the ashes in. They gave me a sturdy little cardboard box, taped shut with packing tape, labelled with our daughter's information. When we arrived at home, we carefully slit open the cardboard box and found a sturdy and thick flexible clear plastic container, like a legal envelope on its end, tied closed, with ashes inside. It was perfect for our needs. All in all, I have only positive to say about them and about their service. They took what could have been a logistical nightmare and made it a smooth, simple process. They're genuinely caring and sincere. They are accepting, not pushy. They didn't take advantage of us, and easily could have. In a word, they serve. Beautifully. And they received nothing from us. They didn't know us, didn't know we'd seen their ad at our church, had no reason to be so kind. And knowing that they were waiving the cost, they had no logical reason to be quite so diligent, to check with the hospital and keep us apprised of what was happening, to offer an ear to listen if we needed it... but they did so anyway.
