Fred's Best Windows Doors and Siding

Do not use this contractor. In November 2017, Fred's Best completed work on a window trim project with "a lifetime guarantee" and "lifetime warranty". The project was late, excuses were made and most disappointing, the work didn't withstand the elements for even one winter. I have emailed and called the owner, William Davey, multiple times over the last six months, without any resolution or correction of the work. He always has a colorful or sad story as to why the work can't be completed and assures me he will call the next day. I finally woke-up and realized his tactics. Sadly, this "little project" is now a big deal and legal counsel was retained to resolve Fred's Best breach of contract. There are so many great contractors in NOVA. We were happy to send our business to others. Fred's BEST is certainly NOT best in NOVA or anywhere for that matter.

This business has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Stay away from this company. On May 4, they promptly came and fixed my leaking gutter by pulling a glove out of it. I was told the gutter may need caulking but it was raining, this could not be done now, and that I should call back if the gutter was still leaking. A few months later during a heavy rain, I noticed it was still leaking and called back. I was told the work would be covered under their warranty and would be quickly scheduled. To make a long, painful story short, after one week of ignored calls and emails, broken promises to schedule, and two cancelled appointments (truck would not start and a no show without explanation), I gave up. They also failed to show for a cost estimate to replace windows (family emergency). I am not a routine review writer. But, the extraordinary poor service of this company compelled this review with the hope it helps other members avoid the mistake I made when I called this company.

We got quotes from a bunch of different vendors.  I have to say, I wish we hadn't.  My life would have been so much easier if I had just gone with Fred's Best, but then again, I also wouldn't know what a gem of a company this business is.  All the other companies I contacted, including the big names, hounded me non-stop with phone calls and emails, saying we've got this new deal now the price is (fill in the blank).  They made their prices so random it was ridiculous.  One company gave me a ridiculous quote to replace all the windows at once, and when I explained they'd have to come down in price by $30K, they said no problem.  What gives?  These other guys were all slimy, I felt dirty after dealing with them.  Some I couldn't even get to leave my house.
Fred's Best came in, gave us a quote and left.  Then, to follow up, they sent a lovely card, thanking me for my time and the opportunity to provide a quote.  That was so refreshing.  You'd think a quote like that would be far above the prices of the others, but it wasn't the pricing was fair and honest, no gimmicks.  Also, refreshing.  Shopping for windows can be so stressful, but Fred's Best just takes all that stress out of the process.  
Now for the windows, they're perfect so far, no complaints.  The install, also no complaints.  My house decided to throw a lot of rotted frames at us.  No problem, they replaced the rotted wood, and onward... For whatever reason, I had dreaded the install, thinking it would be plagued with problems, but nothing came up that Fred's Best couldn't handle.  
I give this company my highest recommendation.  I plan to continue to business with Fred's Best as I still need many more windows and some doors.  If I can give anyone any advice on window shopping, make it easy on yourself, call Fred's Best and skip the rest.

Nilson (the foreman) and his crew set to begin work on October 18, 2013.  The crew worked in earnest to install all of the windows, with work completed in 2 full days.  Nilson, like Susie, was engaged and approachable.  During the project he courteously answered any of our questions. All of the windows and debris were carried from the work site. Of course we were initially pleased with all of our new windows.  Over the months, especially during this past winter, we simply realize that this was a great investment. Not only do the windows give our home more ?eye appeal? but from a practical standpoint we could only imagine how much our furnace would have been running if we still had the old, drafty windows in place during the fall and winter
months. During the balmy weather, we effortlessly slide the windows to allow fresh air into our home.  Just the feel and look of these well-made and professionally installed windows reassures you that you made the right decision. After our storm door was installed, we discovered that the door lock could not be engaged.  After contacting Susie about this, she promptly dispatched one of her employees to take a look.  He determined that there was a manufacturer?s problem and after securing the necessary parts he replaced the door handle and locking mechanism- of course without charge.  If you are looking for window products, professional installation and consummate customer service you should really consider Fred?s Best Windows, Doors & Siding.

I called Fred?s Best to repair the Storm Door on the front on my home. When they arrived, they analyzed the situation and provided an excellent analysis of what it would take to fix the problem: short-term (replace the Storm Door) and long-term (in addition to replacing the Storm Door, repair the Storm Door framing due to age of the original wood with stronger weather resistant
aluminum supports that look like the original wood). They provided an estimate, ordered the materials and completed the installation with minimal interruptions to my schedule. They kept me informed via email during these project; thus, I could monitor the project status via my mobile device. I couldn't have asked for a better contractor.  The price was very reasonable and the workers are out of this world.  I have never seen people work as hard as these guys.  They are putting in 11 hour days to get the job done on time.  The work is top quality.  When they found a problem with the roof they did not just tell us there was a problem.  They took the time to show us the damage that had occurred and why it occurred.  Absolutely no pressure to have them fix it.  We did however and they also explained what they would do to keep it from happening in the future.  The best jobsite I have ever seen at the end of the day.  Not only do they clean up their material and equipment but they sweep the area clean.  This is the only company I would hire for this work.

This was the easiest contractor I have worked with in a long time.  The door was ordered with absolutely no pressure to order more than we wanted.  When the time came for install the team was GREAT!  They guys arrived on time, and went to work immediately. They were very careful not to damage any property so they covered everything up.  The worked quickly and consistently to remove the door that was in place.  After they did this they found wood rot (not entirely unexpected).  I was present and saw exactly what the problem was.  They asked if I wanted it replaced and called and got the additional cost immediately.  Once I ok'd the additional work they completed the job quickly and professionally.  The door is fantastic and works great!  I couldn't have asked for a better team. The door is of excellent quality.  Have not had any issues with the door whatsoever.  I am going to this company when I start to replace the windows in my home.  I can confidently refer them to anyone.

I have an arbitration about Fred's Best Windows Doors and Siding with the Better Business Bureau. They put a door in that's below standard, it deteriorated, fell apart. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I waited nine months for the installation, when the door went in, it went in with the wrong color, the door is broken physically. In fact I'm even upset that they're still on your list rated so highly. The interior of the door is inadequate. My problem is I bought a very expensive door and didn't get it. He promised me this was top of the line and I got a broken door, a door that I will have to replace. He told me it looked like something I did when he came out to look at the door. I tried to use every other method before I did that. I was even willing to return the door, get my money back, and they could have shipped the door back to the company they got it from reporting it was defective, but they wouldn't even do that. It wasn't what I expected and it's not safe because of where it's broken. It's right by where the lock goes into the framing, the piece of the door is broken. You can see the lock and you can see where it's pushing through, there's no support. They stained it and it's all coming out. I don't think a door should operate like that, I think a door that you pay $6000 for should be good.

William showed me samples, gave me jobs to look at & provided me with a detailed estimate.  He had many helpful suggestions that set him apart from his competitors.  Suzie was great at keeping our project organized & always let me know when & what time they would arrive.  The Fred's Best crew showed up when promised, conducted themselves in a professional manner & did excellent work, paying attention to every detail.  They truly set themselves apart from the 3 other companies I interviewed.  So glad we choose them!

Fred's Best, came and provided quote, price for product was very reasonable. They offered alternatives that we would not have thought of that fit our budget! Very professional and on time! Now considering for new front door and door surround.

He started out really friendly, doing really well with what he promised, but the did not follow through in a timely manner and we had a lot of trouble with them. We wanted them to come out and out to take out the old door and put in a new one. We started setting up for putting in a new stain glass door and he gave us an estimate and said that he would come back within a month to get it measures and get it into place. We called him back a month later and then he told us it was going to be longer to do the work than he thought; we have gone through several months of this. We did put a down payment and we emailed them and mentioned that we would like our money back if he can not agree to have the work finished during the completed time. He then just sent the check back; we felt like he was not being honest with us, because things were not materializing with the door.

We used Freds Best for four different projects and will use them again.  They were perfect in every way, and we recommended them to two other very pleased neighbors.Freds Best is literally the best!!

When the owner of the company, William Davey, came out to give us the estimate, he was very knowledgeable about his products and offered design suggestions that were very helpful.  Although he wrote up a contract that day, we made a couple of subsequent changes which required a new contract.  William was always available to us by cell phone, which was very impressive. Communications with him and his office manager Susie went very smoothly, and our order was placed in a timely manner.  
 On the day of installation, the crew was extremely efficient and pleasant to deal with. They did their work quickly and professionally, with a minimum of disruption, and cleaned up after themselves upon completion of the job. All trash and debris was removed from our yard, and they swept up the sawdust inside our house.
We will definitely use Fred's Best again, and would whole-heartedly recommend them to others.

Incredible service.  Arrived right on time, got straight to work testing the door, found a very small issue that he was able to fix within 5 minutes, and then didn't charge us a cent.  Very straight-forward and honest.  He also provided answers to many of my wife's questions about the house and possible future improvements.

Communication with Fred's Best was excellent through out.  They made sure we knew when they were coming and when they were on their way.  Owner William Davey discussed possible causes of the problem.  He is very knowledgeable.  He was extremely courteous.  He came when he said he would, reviewed the problem and got things, literally, back on track very quickly.  Very happy with this company and would definitely have them back.
