Seeta M.
Mar 2014
1) Original estimate was 3200 $ to remove 26 trees around the house. (17 trees are less than 6 inches while the rest are relatively bigger).
2) I assumed i got a good price since he mentioned everything was included hauling off the trunks, debris and grinding the stumps)
3) Second round of discussions, I asked him to let me know the price of just grinding 6 other stumps (previously cut trees in the yard) and for removing some shrubs in front of the house. He provided an additional estimate of 300 $ and also asked me to pay the dump fees for the shrubs (300+125 for the dump for shrubs). total estimate of $3625.
4) during signing the contract he mentions that he has all the equipment but the standard verbiage on the contract is that if he had to rent something, I would be paying for that. Assuring to me that he has all the equipment needed.
5) Once i signed the contract I ran into some issues with the HOA and i made sure he was aware of what was going on constantly via emails. (His folks don check the emails but i'm glad i sent each and every detail out).
6) Finally he starts the work after delaying 2 different times (doesn't call and let you know what is going on. Had to cal him multiple times before he answered and provided some excuse)
MAIN Problems start here....
7) Starts the work on 2/25/2014 (Tue) and comes in around noon. works for a few hours. next day same thing. hardly 3-4 hours of work done. yard left in pretty bad shape. Driveway light broken, bench on the back deck broken while cutting down the trees.
8) Comes to me and tells me that the dump truck loads are going to be 8-10 unless i rent him a wood chipper. (Cost 150). Says his chipper is broken and i'll have to rent one right away.
9) i ask him where the 8-10 dump loads are coming from and lies that i am liable for paying the dump costs of getting rid of everything.
10) pulls the ribbon off a marked tree while i was at work and tries to argue with me that tree was never marked for cutting (luckily i took pictures of the entire yard with all the trees to have before and after pictures). when i pulled out the cell phone
camera and showed him the tree was marked, plays ignorant and says he'll "help me out" by removing that tree as well.
11) Charges me for an additional 4 truck loads (and lies to my face that it was 5 loads and he is giving me a discount of 1 truck) - Absolute lie since once he started changing his words and lying we keep a close eye on the dump truck loads.) charges me an additional 250 for renting out the chipper.
12) Supposed to clear the yard out completely but leaves sticks lying around the entire yard.
13) final bill is $ 4375 (750$ higher than what was originally committed to). Lies about the $125 dump truck price not included in the original estimate of $3625.
14) AT THIS POINT, I JUST WANTED HIM OUT OF MY YARD AND PAID HIM THE MONEY TO GET RID OF HIM.
15) BEING A FIRST TIME HOME OWNER AND NOT HAVING ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT WORKING WITH CONTRACTORS, I WENT BY WHAT HE WAS "SAYING" AND DIDN'T PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO HOW HE WAS
WORDING THE CONTRACT.
16) Be extremely careful in looking at the wording on the contract and if anyone still chooses to use him, make sure you get very detailed and iron clad description and try and find out about all these hidden costs upfront itself.
I would personally never work with this guy again. a couple of my neighbors who wanted to get trees removed
in their yards as well, immediately dropped him due to all these issues I had from him.
