This was our 7th project with Trindco between our former and present homes. Our experiences in the past were always positive which is why we were a repeat, satisfied customer. Unfortunately, this experience has totally soured our impression of Trindco in terms of quality, professionalism, and customer service. We will not use them again and cannot recommend them to anyone else.
Our negative experience started in the sales process with Michelle at the Virginia Beach location. We selected the product, got a quote, paid a deposit, had our space measured, and scheduled the install date. Everything was going fine until .... Michelle calls and says that the product is unavailable. I would have thought that the first step in the sales process is to check for availability before accepting a deposit and scheduling measurements and installation dates. So - we had to again go back to the showroom and select another product, the closest being a more expensive product ("bait and switch"??). So - right from the beginning, it was not a smooth process. The installers came on schedule to install the product. I was excited to see my new kitchen when I arrived home from work. What I saw was a disaster!! There were scratches in the product, the product was not cut properly according to the layout, the seams were very visible, AND they scratched up my brand new hardwood floors. To make matters worse, there was dust and debris everywhere!! They did not even have enough pride in their work to clean up after themselves. (Apparently the installers they used for our project were brand new, "newbies" per the re-installers.) I was shocked!! We contacted Michelle, our sales rep, who then said we are not to contact her on the cell phone she provided to us going forward. She simply said "we will make it right" and then removed herself from the situation. She referred us to Hunter who might be the owner? He never introduced himself properly so we are not sure. He did come out and promised to fix everything to include repairing our hardwood floors. Six weeks later, all of the issues have been corrected for the most part. However, I never felt like they understood or cared about the impact this situation caused on our family. My husband and I had to rearrange work schedules to accommodate the installers (again!), we had to live without our kitchen for extended periods of time during the repairs to both the countertops and our floors (I have 3 kids! The kitchen is important!) and the inconvenience and stress this situation caused to the entire family is just immeasurable. The icing on the cake was the multiple "past due" invoices we received for the balance due when they had not even completed the project due to their poor quality workmanship and lack of professionalism. (It was an "automated notice", they said.) I am anxious to put this entire fiasco of a project behind me. Again, we are so disappointed in Trindco mainly because we had good experiences in the past and expected a quality project. I think their management needs to take a good, hard look at how they do business. There are other choices for countertops in the marketplace with comparable prices. The quality, professionalism and service of a company are the intangibles that will win the business from consumers. If Trindco does not reassess and make some changes, I do not foresee a future for them.
"Trindco strives to provide excellence to each and every customer. As the only Marble Institute of America Accredited Fabricator in the Hampton Roads area, we pride ourselves on quality of craftsmanship – both from a technical fabrication and installation perspective, as well as aesthetically pleasing to our customer perspective. [Member names removed] contracted us to install non-stock quartz countertops. Unfortunately, our supplier was late in notifying us that the color they chose was on back order for approximately 1 month. Since they weren’t replacing cabinets and had existing countertops in place, we provided them with an opportunity to delay their installation and keep their first color selection or to select another color or product and try to maintain their installation date. They selected another, more expensive, quartz option from another supplier. We provided them a significant discount on the upgraded material as a measure of customer service to them, our customer. We installed Cambria countertops in the [Member name removed]’s home on a Friday. They contacted us on Saturday morning with concerns regarding the installation. We contacted them on Monday and met with them at their home on Tuesday to review their concerns, none of which impacted their ability to use their sink or cooktop. We agreed upon a plan of resolution and carried it out as discussed and agreed upon. Our goal is to complete remodels on the first trip whenever possible. Unfortunately, in construction, we sometimes fall short of that goal. We do, however, work with customers to make sure that the quality of the finished product meets their expectations. We regret the frustration and inconvenience caused by the process and hope that the [Member name removed]’s will enjoy their new kitchen now that the dust has settled."
On 12/9 we made our decision and called Kellie, on 12/14 the first visit was by their measuring team consisting of a young man who is very passionate and professional about his work, he made some suggestions on strengthening the sink base and also on some cabinet adjustments which we took care of immediately. He took about an hour and measured each area twice and then presented the completed drawing and went over each aspect of it with us.
On 12/21 the installers called and then came over. The company uses contractor who was extremely professional and polite for the installation. The installation went very smoothly and took about three hours to install all the countertops, glue and secure the seam, and cut out the hole for the sink.
They started by laying down protection for the floor so they would not track on the carpet to get to the kitchen from the front door. They moved quickly to verify the counters were as stated in the plan, and then verified they had all the piece locations. They identified an oversize issue on the plan and quickly made the necessary cut to install the silestone wall cap.
All four workers were very professional. they brought in their tools. Then went about installing all the silestone. once it was all carried in which is no easy chore, they leveled, shimmed and glued the countertops as needed. Once the seam was dry, they commenced with cutting out the sink hole. They had two people working on the cutting and two using vacuums to control dust so it would not get all over the house. After which they cleaned up all their equipment, wiped down all surfaces and cleaned up the floor in the kitchen and back out to the front door.
Having worked in construction, I was very impressed with how this installation team worked so well together.
In my opinion, Trindco did not show diligence in their work. At most, they had two months to inspect the stone for anything which would delay the installation. At least, they had two and a half weeks to inspect the stone and plan. They did not do this, and as a result, I had to cancel a business trip and wait until the 6th. They could have had their team work overtime on Thursday night to meet the install on Friday. They did not. They could have done the install on Saturday, they would not. However, I was assured that I would be the first stop on Monday, and that I would receive a call between 8-8:30 Monday morning when the team was on their way. Shortly after 8AM Monday, Emily called again and told me that one of the installers called in sick, and they would not be able to come out until 1PM. At 1:30PM, no one had shown, and I called to find out when the installers would be here. I spoke with Kathy and was told there was another delay, and they would not be able to come out until 3PM. At 3:05 I called Trindco to find out where the installer was. I spoke again with Kathy, she told me the installer had just called, he was 5 minutes away from the shop, was going to load the truck and call me when he was on his way. The installer called me about 4:20 to say he was en route. On an average work day, I am home by 4PM. All told, I have unnecessarily gone an extra 3 and a half days without a kitchen, wasted eight hours of vacation and have to delay my plumber an extra day to hook up my sink all because they did not do due diligence by examining the job properly in the more than ample time allotted. The only thing they offered was an insincere apology. Despite the delays so Trindco “could get me a product I could be proud of”, there were flaws in their craftsmanship, such as back splash being cut too small and the dimensions of the sink cavity being incorrect.
There were issues with the quality of work that was done that I let the installer know. I received a call from Kathy at Trindco on 8 August about them. Specifically: 1. They cut a section of the backsplash too short 2. The edge on one section of stone which butted against a wall was crooked 3. The cavity for the sink (undermounted) was uneven 4. A section of the backplash was uneven with the counter and showed daylight Kathy asked what time I would be available for the installer to come back out to fix the issues, and I told her 4PM that evening. She said the installer would be there at 4, and that he would call me when he was on his way. The installer called me at 4:20 and arrived at 5. The installer was able to fix items 1 and 4 to my satisfaction. Item 2 was fixed, but the only choice I was given was to put caulk in the gap as opposed to cutting a new section of stone. For item 3, the installer contacted Phil at Trindco, who suggested I contact Danny, the Trindco sales rep. I attempted to call, but it was after 5 and I received an answering machine. I called Danny the next day (9 August) and told him about the sink. He said he would look into it and get back to me. About a half hour later Phil called me and wanted more information. The problem with the sink cavity is that it was not cut even. On the forward and left sides of the cavity, the counter is nearly flush with the sink, with minimal overhang. On the back and right sides, the counter overhangs the sink considerably. Phil said he wanted to come out to look at it but after discussing schedules he said he couldn’t make it out that night, but may be able to make it out the following night. At 3PM on Friday 10 August I received a call from Kathy at Trindco, saying that an installer called out and Phil had to fill in for him, so he wouldn’t be able to make it out today, but could try for Monday or Tuesday. The first thing that comes to mind is that Trindco is establishing a pattern for missing appointments and commitments. Secondly, if Phil can cover for an installer, why was this not an option when I was sitting around all day on Monday the 6th waiting for an installer to show.
In short, I cannot recommend Trindco for any reason. Their prices were comparable to other fabricators, but their poor customer relations, lack of concern for the customers needs and mediocre craftsmanship make them a poor investment.
The salesperson was excellent to deal with. I didn't actually interact with any of their installers because I wasn't here when they came out to do the work. They did it on time and did an excellent job. They were just very easy to deal with. There were no complications.
