As others have mentioned, this was a nightmare. He was referred by a HUD Consultant, and it is my guess it is the same consultant previously mentioned. The contractor did not get correct permits and lied to city about what work was done. No construction manager was on site. The day laborers were left to figure it out and worked off others licenses. Hired day workers to do mechanical, electrical, plumbing. All the contractor wanted was money, and he got most of it. He never "completed" the project after almost a year. This was to use the excuse that he was not "done." The contractor then tried to strong arm me by bringing in 4-5 men to force me to pay up. I hired a 3 party home inspector and found that 1) Mold was growing in the rear of the home, 2) The roof was leaking, 3) The HVAC was not connected to the condenser for air, 4) the cabinets were not secure, 5) the deck was not bolted or built properly and had not been checked by the city, 6) Concrete driveway pour had not been sloped correctly, 7) electricity was installed incorrectly, 8) the plumbing was clogged and had backed up due to the trades pouring concrete in the drains because they had not been paid, 9) gaping holes from the first floor to the basement, 10) insecure railing going up the stairs, ... Run. Don't walk away. Believe the reviews, and check the DC court records online.

This construction company was recommended by their friend, a HUD consultant. They came in very low in budget and said yes to everything I wanted to do. However, lacked quality, project management and attempted to cut corners during the renovation. Their main concern and the one thing they were very punctual on was collecting money. It wasn't about the quality of work they did [lack there of] or the complaints of the owner- Tamir Construction- run by Muhammad Irfan Qureshi and Mohammad Chaudhry, main concern was whether they were getting paid. Excuses, excuses for all things found wrong and never their fault- always the owner, budget or the timeline...etc. Examples:They tiled my bathroom five times and ran through my materials each time. The HUD Consultant had a meeting with the subcontractors to move through my vision, the designers layout and the materials. Everyone said yes they could do it. The bathrooms were horrible. One subcontractor was attempting to glue wood to green boards in my bathroom so he could attach the mosaic stone to it. Luckily I was onsite that day and caught this. Their excuse: "when you hired us- you didn't say we were customizing a home. We would have brought in our best contractors". Well isn't every home custom? Especially when it's a renovation project because the owner chooses their own materials? And shouldn't you sit down with the owner and understand their vision and choice of materials before you start the activity? 2). My materials were damaged several times due to working out of sequence. Materials I had custom made and flown in- when this was brought to their attention; here came the excuses again and their attempt to patch and fix my materials instead of replacing them. 3). After dry walling and laying hardwood floors, Tamir Construction decides to power wash a 1920 home that has sand like mortar. Water/acid went every where. The subcontractors were hurt [acid spilled on them], OSHA was called and drywall had to be removed along with the hardwood floors [cupping started due to moisture]. When I pointed out that they should have determined a better way to remove paint off such an old home and complained about the sequence of activities- they became offended instead of listening and repairing the problem. THERE WAS NO PROJECT MANAGER ONSITE. Muhammad Qureshi would make a grand appearance once a day and leave the workers to themselves. He didn't equip them with Porter Johns or inform them the sequence of their activities. They destroyed each others' work, p***** in my sump pump and in bottles and spat on my floors- IN FRONT OF ME!! My kitchen cabinets were beautiful but due to the cabinet guy they work with, it took him four months to install and Tamir had other contractors touching each other's work. After the home was completed, I moved in and my one year old niece was in the kitchen with me- the 48" cabinet door fell on glass and shot shattered glass through the kitchen. Missing her! I called and texted- furious. Excuses- Muhammad Qureshi says to me- "she shouldn't have been swinging on the door." My niece was no where near the door when it fell, crashing into my granite counter tops. Did I mention she is one years old?! I could go on and on but the bottom line is save your money- pay for a real construction company that will prepare, plan then implement with you and give your project the attention and customization it deserves. I am still fighting with this company to take accountability for damage due to a subcontractors installation and they wont return my calls..You pay for what you get...stay clear of these guys. They are a train wreck and your worse nightmare.

Muhammad and Miguel were awesome for the whole job. They worked very hard to get the work done as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvience to me, were available and responsive when I had questions or concerns, and were respectful and professional. They also did a great job cleaning up both on a daily basis and when the job was complete. They took care to lay down protection on my hardwood floors to protect them. They were also very prompt to come back and make any minor repairs in things that couldn't have become apparent until I used the renovated areas (e.g. a little leak in the kitchen sink which they fixed within a day). My job was finished in July so I didn't discover there was a faulty pipe feeding a radiator till late in the fall when I turned the heat on. Even though it was months after the job was complete, Muhammad had someone at my house to do the repair within a day of discovering the problem. I give them an A plus and wouldn't hesitate to contract with Muhammad again for future jobs.
Description of Work: It was a 203k loan for a complete kitchen and bath remodel. Removed a load bearing wall to open up kitchen to dining room, rearranged the footprint of the master bathroom, complete gut job on both rooms including moving heating, plumbing, gas, and electric service lines, laying new floors in both rooms, installing a kitchen island, new cabinets and counters, building a front hallway closet, upgrading my circuit box, replacing/upgrading all the plumbing, and building a totally new second bathroom in the basement.

Uses subcontractors that are moonlighting. Under-pays them and does not manage them well. Also, there were many communication issues between them. They all brought work drama into the job and complained to us all the time and ended up asking for more money from us. Some subcontractors could only come in the evenings. Nothing was done correctly the first time and most things was done shoddily. He also brought a woman into my home to show her his work without my permission. The air-handler in the attic needed new tubing to run the condensation down the side of the house. They "fixed" it by having one tube shoot water onto our neighbor's house like our house had a p****. When the worker came to repair this fix, he was very angry at Irfan that he had to come back and was not getting paid for this second trip.
Description of Work: We got a 203K renovation loan on a foreclosure. The house was in some disrepair with blackmold in the basement and termite and water damage through the three stories. We had them rebuild walls, install insulation, and remodel the kitchen (for the big projects).

I was purchasing a home with a 203K renovation loan. I needed to close on the loan before March 31 and my original contractor was having issues with his license. The 203K consultant recommended Tamir Construction, managed by Irfan Qureshi. Irfan knew that I had already lined up my own plumber and electrician and he agreed to do some of the other tasks on the scope of work and sign off on all of the contractors' work so that I could get payment from the bank. Irfan told me that he would provide 3 men and they would be able to complete the work in one week. Well we are now going into week 4 and nothing has been completed. The doors were hung, but no saddle installed; the door was reframed, but the seams not filled; the soffit/fascia was replaced, but not sanded smooth to blend with the existing woodwork; the cracks in the plaster were repaired, but not sanded; the gate was built (looks nice), but does not lock properly; the wall tile installed, but the corner tiles were not properly mitered to a 45* angle; the floor tile was installed, but it was not installed straight so the end tiles at the top are larger than the end tiles at the bottom (he offered to take $200 off the bill). He was suppose to install radiant heat flooring mats for $500, but when I saw his guys looking at the mats with confusion I decided to get an electrician to install it at a cost of $150! Instead of providing 3 guys he had one (Alex). There was a second guy (Rigo) who went with me to purchase the materials, but once the materials were purchased Rigo only came around to drop Alex off and pick him up at the end of the day. So Alex has been working all day by himself and without supervision. I've essentially had to supervise all of his work and tell him how to do his job. Frankly, I would have done the work myself, but I needed a GC so that the bank would reimburse me for the costs. In addition to poor quality and time delays, there is also poor communication with Irfan. He doesn't show up for appointments and has not been by once in the four weeks to check on the quality of the work. When he does show up, he only wants to stay for 5 minutes and talk about how we can expand the scope or when can I advance him payment. I've sent him several emails (to cover myself), which he said he never reads. He only wants me to text him a couple of lines. I have cut his scope of work and will either do the work myself or hire another general contractor. Fortunately, he won't get paid until the 203K consultant and I both sign off on the paperwork. This certainly won't happen until I receive the quality of workmanship that I expect from a "professional" general contractor.
Description of Work: Install 2 new exterior doors ($150 each), reframe and rehang existing exterior door ($150), replace glass transom over front door ($50), install new gutter downspout ($85), repair soffit and fascia by front porch ($275), repair damaged plaster walls (2 small areas - $175 per area), build a new wooden gate across driveway ($800), remodel upstairs bathroom (install subflooring, radiant heat flooring, backerboard/greenboard, floor and wall tile, paint walls, install bathtub, toilet, sink & fixtures ($3,000). Cost of materials are not included in the above prices. I paid for materials separately.
