Alex and her Sunrise team were OUTSTANDING! Alex provided outstanding design recommendations and project oversight. The team responsible for doing the work was on-time every day. The team was very neat doing the work, and respectful of the existing landscaping. This was the second time the Sunrise team did work for us. We will definitely go back to this team again if additional work is needed in the future.

You should not trust titles such as Best of Loudoun... I made a costly mistake selecting Sunrise Landscape because of it. I should have picked one based on customer reviews. I hired them to reshape my front yard and plant flowers. The hardscaping work, although more expensive than market price, was fine. But the perennials they ordered and planted either did not give flowers or died next season. The plants were supposed to be easy going types, like day lilies, phlox, verbena, daisies etc. Nothing fancy. Yet they did not survive. You hire a professional landscaper to get assured that your garden lives. Sadly, this is not the case. Also, they never came back once to check their work. I was overcharged by at least a thousand for the material that only worth a couple of hundred dollars. I would not be surprised if this company goes out of business in near future.

Our neighborhood was optimistic, based on prior Angies List ratings, that Sunrise would do a great job. Unfortunately, from the moment the contract was signed, Sunrise has been falling short. Sunrise was many weeks late in starting work in the spring at the start of the contract. They blamed visa issues for their workers. We had turnover in the account manager early on in the contract, not at our request, with no improvement in service.
Despite being provided a clear map of the common areas in the neighborhood that are to be cared for, Sunrise has routinely skipped entire sections and have required numerous phone calls and follow-up from the customer just to get the minimum service completed. There continue to be sections of the neighborhood that have not been touched or mulched. The work crews routinely stay for less than an hour and mow but do not attend to any of the other neighborhood requirements.
Our neighborhood switched contracts to get better service. We were willing to pay more for that service. Sunrise has charged us more and provided less.

From the time I requested an estimate until the time the work was completed, I felt that I was in good hands with Sunrise. Very professionally managed and very responsive. I got a written estimate within days of my initial request, and once I signed off on the work, I was on the schedule the next week. The team showed up early on the scheduled work day, worked quickly and diligently to finish everything I hired them to do within 4 hours' time. A bit later, a follow-up visit by the project manager included some additional pruning and some general advice on landscaping ideas for the spring. All my concerns and questions were answered to my satisfaction, and I am looking forward to working with Sunrise again in the spring to upgrade my landscaping.

I was incredibly pleased with Sunrise and specifically Peter Rhyne, Landscape Designer, who oversaw the project. The detailed design for the completely revamped landscaping and additonal trees was provided within days of our first meeting with Peter. The cleanup and installation began ahead of schedule and was completed in a very timely fashion. I was traveling during the installation and Peter went out of his way to send me daily pictures of the progress. The installation occurred during July right before some of the hottest days of the summer. Peter and his crew came by a week after installation to check on the plants and due to the extreme heat, watered and setup several hoses on timers to ensure the newly planted flowers and shurbs survived. Incredible customer service and I highly recommend Sunrise. We look forward to working with them on an ongoing basis for lawn maintenance, turf care and hopefully even an extended patio or gazebo type project in the backyard.
One last thing I failed to mention above was that Peter also drafted a letter and provided pictures to my HOA that enabled me to get approval to make the dramatic changes in the front of the house, including removing a tree that had been butched by the prior owner of the house.

Overall an excellent job - our landscape looks better than it has for a long time. Scheduling was a problem largely because of weather but contact was on top of the situation calling to let us know the status. Most importantly the supervisor was on hand for the cleanup and the planting so the work was done correctly.

I was a customer for about 3 years. I was disappointed when they changed their billing process from "per mow" to "per week whether you get mowed or not.," but the last straw was recently when the lawnmowing team mowed my grass when the lawn was sopping wet, leaving wet grass cuttings stuck to my driveway and sidewalk, along with muddy tire tracks. Then, they moved my lawn water sprinkler underneath the overhang of my roof so that when the timer kicked on, it sprayed water up into my permeable roof soffit. They're supposed to put water sprinklers back where they found them. A manager visited without asking me if he could come onto my property -- a little courtesy please folks -- and saw what was done, and then apologized to me on the phone, but did not offer a refund. I decided to try another mowing service.

Service has deteriorated over the last two years. They are slow to start mowing in the spring (last in the neighborhood again), still have not completed spring cleanup, and have developed a bad habit of not returning phone calls.

"We regret that you are unhappy with our service. We do have on record that someone spoke with you on April 23rd to schedule your Spring Clean up and you requested it be finished by Memorial Day, May 27th. According to our records we have completed the clean up and today is May 14th. Regarding the late start, all I can say is we are a victim of Mother Nature. Seeing as we had snow on March 25th the grass really wasn't growing. Then we had the 3 days of 90's and had a growth explosion the 2nd week of April. We are doing our best to get everyone caught up and hope you can look to the previous 7 years you've been with us and remember all the good we have done for you. We hope over the next 6 months we are able to regain your faith in Sunrise as we try meet and exceed your expectations."

The service turned out very well. The price was reasonable. They started and finished on time. The workers that did the majority of the work were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. They landscape architect was very cooperative with us on some minor things and did a great job overall.

They are excellent. We have been using them for about 18 years. They are extremely responsive. The man who owns the company always comes out to make sure the work is done correctly and makes great suggestions. He is very creative and has great ideas. They also stand behind their plantings. If a plant dies within a year they will replace it.

He was a sub contractor for another general contractor. he was involved from the very beginning. he does hardscape and drainage systems. Very knowledgable in landscaping. he readily made changes to adapt to our request. They went above and beyond everytime. Timely, well organized and mind blowing work. Very responsive and close supervision with his workers. Always knew what was going on. Very fair on his prices.

All of the work was completed to our satisfaction including a few last minute/mid-project changes. We had a few follow up request and Sunrise was quick to respond. We were very happy with the job and would definitely recommend Sunrise to others.

Sunrise continues to provide mediocre to poor service. They do much of our neighborhood, though feel we get the short-end of their service. Start early and begin mowing at 7:30/8am regardless of if yard is ready as often far to wet to mow. Yard looks worse now then when they took over service. Mowing is expensive and additional service quotes are very expensive.

We looked through our records that pertain to this property and found that the only service the client contracted with Sunrise for was mowing. Unfortunately, if we are only mowing it is in the hands of the homeowner to to apply the lime, fertilization, seed, weed control and aerate in order to keep the lawn in the pristine shape that is our standard. We also have no record of the client calling and asking us to start at a later time. Had we known we would have been more than happy to work with him to find a better time. We hope they have found someone to meet their needs and, as mentioned, will be in the neighborhood so please give us a call if we can be of service in the future."

To put this review in the right perspective let me first give you my opinion on major investments. I believe that it is better to pay a little more to get something done "right" than it is to go for the cheapest option and end up with something that looks cheap or does not endure. With that in mind let me also state that I am not made of money so what I look for is value; the right work at a reasonable price.
When I started considering a patio in June I read several reviews on Angie's list and I also contacted some contractors that were recommended by friends\colleagues. I ended up getting three quotes for my approximately 800 square foot patio. Two of the quotes stated something to the effect of "install a random 800 square foot random paver patio." Needless to say, the lack of detail in these two quotes did not exactly instill me with confidence that I would like what I was buying or that it was of a sufficient quality to last more than a couple years.
Based on Angie's List reviews, I contacted Sunrise Landscapes + Design via the contact form on their website and received a same-day response from the president of the company, Mr. Joe Markell. Joe came out the same week to meet with me and to survey the area in which the patio would be installed. We discussed expectations, options and budgets at length and Joe was able to give me suggestions and proposals for several different configurations that I had in mind. His proposals (quotes) provided exact specifications regarding the type and color of pavers that would be used and he also used paint to outline the area in which the patio would be installed so that I could see it more clearly. Two days later he sent me a virtual mock-up of the completed product via email so I really could see how the patio that he had in mind would look in my yard.
I could tell that Joe was committed to quality and getting the job done right and he has the experience and credentials to back it up. I selected Sunrise Landscape + Design to perform the work and in hindsight could not be more pleased with the finished product. The patio installation took approximately 7 business days and was completed on time and within budget. The employees are courteous and wear uniforms so it is a very clean operation. Sunrise Landscape + Design is marginally more expensive that other contractors BUT Joe is willing and able to work within your budget. In several instances Sunrise Landscape + Design exceeded my expectations with the patio design and installation so I feel that I got more than my money's worth.
Additionally, once the patio installation was complete they took measures to clean my yard of any debris and repair any areas of the lawn that were displaced during the construction (i.e. fix any grass that was damaged by the front-end loader). In summary, if any of the following qualities are important to you, I would highly recommend Sunrise Landscape + Design:

Their service is fine, but they are not very responsive to phone calls. When you call the office, you speak to receptionist and then that individual has to share those messages out to the people who actually do the work and are supposed to contact you, but they are not proactive there. They do a quality work. We would continue to use them again in the future too.

This was without question the best contractor experience we have ever had. From the price through to the work completion. We had gotten 3-4 estimates and the Sunrise estimate, while not the cheapest, was certainly not the most expensive. Frankly I was impressed initially by their professionalism and marketing and assumed (wrongly) that their price would be way out of the ballpark, I was pleasantly surprised with their estimate.. Our contact, Richard kept us appraised of the work schedule (which was delayed from the original start, but solely due to several days of rain). Once we had good weather, Sunrise showed up every day promptly a little before 8am and stayed with it every day until completion. I've never seen a crew work like these guys, most days they were there until 6 and once worked til almost 8pm. At the end of each day they straightened up the area and swept up any stray sand on the driveway. When the job was done they racked and graded all around the walkway and installed sod and even placed sod in a small strip of my neighbors yard that we always seem to cut into a rut when we back out. We have some patio work we've been talking about in the backyard, maybe not this year.. but when we do pull the trigger these are the people I want to do the work. This time I'll only need one estimate.

Its been two years since Sunrise installed our steps and walk and I still smile every time I get out of the car and see them. If anything the works looks better now that the lawn has filled in around it. Several of our neighbors have since their concrete steps and walks "covered" with brick and I've not seen one that looks half as nice as ours. I'm just being honest. If I get these pictures posted, note the first couple where you see the old steps completed torn out before Sunrise started the new one. This has not been done on any of the brick step "veneers" installed by my neighbors.
