Melissa C.
Dec 2010
Home Building
When I met the owner, Osvaldo Salinas, he said he had three companies - two he had bought after he started Sunrise Contractors - and that he had around 500 employees that worked for him. Seeing that others were impressed by his work, he seemed pretty competent in person, and the only complaint was how hard it was to get a hold of him, I decided to proceed. I needed to get the work done and he seemed like the easiest and most obvious choice, especially since he had done other good stucco work in the community. He started on Wednesday, Nov. 17th, 2010, and said on Friday or Saturday it would be finished. I thought it was wonderful (incidentally, I gave him a check later that day for $1500 and found out he had gone straight to the bank that day and cashed it. The remaining total, $2271, was supposed to be given in December). Saturday rolls around and everything is in a big pile in the driveway, all the demolition from tearing down the wall. Then, I called him that weekend and he says he'll get back to me after he reaches the guy who is supposed to be in charge of the project (who I thought was supposed to be Osvaldo) and 10 minutes later says he calls to say he couldn't reach the project manager for a status and acts like he has no idea what is happening with the project but it will get done soon - famous last words. About midweek I called again for a status since nothing had changed and he said it would be done soon. Soon, I saw they had actually put up the concrete blocks but no stucco or anything else - the mess of the demolition is still sitting there in the driveway taking up two parking spaces - so I called to see what the plan was since they are working on it again and again no response. Time passed and once more I tried to reach him but to no avail. He has not been answering calls or texts at all and it's been at least two or so weeks since I communicated with him, three and a half weeks after the "3-4 day project" began. The two-car driveway has not been usable for that entire amount of time. I also wanted to get a breakdown of the work for the project and he several times said that was no problem. I also wanted an estimate of another stucco wall I was going to eventually repair and he also said no problem and that he would get it to me that day or the next day. I am still waiting. I didn't get a contract because everyone said he did good work and people vouched for him. ALWAYS, always get a contract, regardless of how good someone sounds from the outset. I would not use him nor any company he owns in the future. I am sure there are better, more professional stucco repair companies out there.
