I am a residential homeowner that has been going here for 30 years. I have always received reliable, dependable, and honest service regardless of if I was buying new equipment or having items serviced. The staff is professional and the service has always been spot on. I absolutely go here instead of big box stores simply for the dependability and knowledge of the staff.

The mower was a trade-in that they had serviced for the original owner. Before I bought it they repaired the engine and replaced the belts and then the owner decided to move to a condo. I have had it for two years and have only had to sharpen the blades and adjust a cable. I paid $300.00 for a very nice used riding mower.
The snow blower was serviced this spring. They figured out that the transmission only needed to be adjusted to get the self propelling working. They also tuned it up and prepped it for storage for the summer. This cost me about $85.00
Everything they did was reasonably priced and professional. They call when the service is done and provide good advice on how to prevent carburetor clogging from the ethanol in gas.

Took several weeks and $40 to tell me that they could repair my trimmer for more than it would cost to buy a new trimmer.

One day, my pull-start gas push mower suddenly refused to start. I took it to Sterling Lawn Mower Repair, where they collected a $40 down payment and promised to have it for me in 7-10 days, probably for about $75 in total. About 5 days later, they called to say that it was just a broken and quot;shear pinand quot;, and that I had probably hit something with the blade and broken it. Since they already had the mower apart, they looked it over and noticed that the oil was old, so they replaced the oil and some filters as well. So I picked it up a few days early, a few bucks less than expected, and in better shape than it had been for a while.

Top-notch service!

Their prices are comparable. They are really good. I would give them top marks across the board. They have been around for twenty five years. They are knowledgeable on the products. They know the business. The facility is small and they carry a lot up front. They have a big garage area. They built a new facility several years ago. It is nice for what it is.

We have been taking our lawn mower for repairs and tune-ups to Sterling Mower ever since we moved to VA in 1985. When we drop off the equipment we have asked for, and have been given, prompt assistance at unloading our machines. We always have given plenty of lead time to get the work done, however. They are always able to resolve any problem we have come to them with, and have been honest with us when our mower was too far gone to repair. We have observed and have always been treated with courtesy. We have been given estimates for repair that rarely underestimate the actual cost. They even took time to give a tutorial/demonstration of how to properly use our string weeder.

They were very professional and very popular, so their will likely be a wait, however, good people are in demand. If you want someone lousy, go with the guy who is available with no notice. I was quoted a price to assess the damage to my compressor. I thought that it was not working, when they tested it though it seemed to be working fine for them so they refunded a good portion of my prepaid estimate. They even recommend other brands for when I'm ready to replace this one. I really like these guys. As a woman it is sometimes difficult to find good service people, hese people were very polite and they didn't mind answering questions, nor did they treat me as though I have no idea what I am talking about.

I took it in and Adam discovered I overfilled the oil and created hydrolocking. He emptied the oil, cleaned it up and tested it. In addition I have a chainsaw attachment and they sharpened the blades on it. Cost $25.00 for the whole deal. He showed me the mark where I was to fill the oil, the Scan code to look up the operator's manual and how to store the Toro in the correct position when not in use. He and his staff were very professional. They did not make fun of or criticize my ignorance. The shop is very clean and well lit (i.e., not a grungy and quot;hole in the walland quot; shop).
I am currently having the device serviced by them (seems I got water in it somehow). They indicated if the cost to repair was more than $50.00 they would call me before proceeding.
Additional to servicing all lawn equipment, they have a selection of equipment for purchase as well as parts in house or to order. As of the writing of this review, turn around time on repairs is running 1 week or less

The counter staff was very polite, friendly, and helpful. Very clearly explained what they would do and gave me a 7-10 day time frame for repair (which was also posted on a sign on the wall, very visibly, at the counter.) So you can imagine how delighted I was to get a call 2 days later with my mower repaired. My husband claims it works better now than it did when it was brand new. He's totally pleased! Also, as a frame of reference I called another mower repair service and it was going to be a minimum charge of 1 hour of service regardless what was wrong and how long it took to fix it. They also had a higher per hour labor rate than Sterling Mower. So I would say Sterling Mower's prices are more than fair and competitive.

I hesitate to give straight A's to businesses. I try to be completely objective and give a fair scale rating. I will give a B for good service and an A for outstanding... etc. I was prepared to be disappointed based on some ratings others posted about Sterling Mower. However, a neighbor told us they never had a problem with Sterling Mower. So we chanced it. I'm glad we did. They truly were straight A's.

When I arrived home I drove the mower about 50-75 feet and the blades once again stopped engaging. This time I got down and looked and found a raggedy, partially torn, and severely worn deck belt hanging down. There is no way that this company properly serviced my mower! They charged me under false pretenses for work that was never done. I recommend that anyone considering doing business with this company, look elsewhere to get honest, competent work performed. I am not only outraged at my experience with them, but I am also very sad as I depended on them to perform competently -- and they did not!

The work repairs were completed in one week, which is excellent. This was my first experience with a lawn mower repair company. Everyone was very polite and a man at the shop helped unload/load the lawn mower from my van and he explained what was completed as it was being put back in my van. Since the mower had a hard starting/stalling problem, they recommended the $90 general tune-up, which should take care of the stalling/hard start problem and would include fixing the pull rope (plus parts). There was debris in the carburator which caused the hard start/stalling problem which took 1 1/2 hours to fix. When the mower needs to be repaired next time, I'll junk it and just buy a new front propelled mower for $270 (Sears or Lowes- advertised on sale). They did fix the problem, so I have no complaints about that, my only concern was the total cost. I probably overpaid for the general tune-up since I had already replaced the spark plug and air filter when trying to fix the problem. I was under the impression from the counter guy that the hard starting/stalling problem work and the pull rope work (plus parts) would be included in the $90 charge. That's why I went with it. I should have asked them to repair the two known problems only. Live and learn. Since their labor rate is $70 per hour, the total cost may have come out to be the same anyway.

While the mower runs the pully holding the blade in place broke a month of so after repairs. They claimed it was not their fault. If it was weak it should have been repaired during the tuneup since the blade was taken off for sharpening.

I dropped off our snow blower as last winter it would not start. It has been inactive since we moved here from Massachusetts in 2004. I told them it was not a rush job. They called within a week or two with an estimate and it was ready about a week later. Very reasonable. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant, helpful and polite, that, in and of itself, will guarantee I'll be back!

This company is a pleasure to deal with. They were friendly and helpful when I dropped the mower off, provided a a verbal estimate for the work the next day, had the machine ready for pickup four days after dropoff (which included the Memorial Day weekend) and did the work at the lower end of their estimated cost. I particularly appreciated the fast turnaround. A local competitor's signs estimated "3+ weeks" for this sort of work. The mower now works perfectly.

Very helpful, cheerful staff. Gave a time estimate of 6 days, but it was ready in 4, which at the start of the busy season is pretty good. Their customer service is great; put the mower in and out of the car, answer all questions, seem to know what they're doing and made it very pleasant.
