We have used Kevin and State of the Art for almost 8 years and over 3 different homes. Their service is always top notch not matter how small or big the job is. We love the creative designs for landscaping and now a patio and firepit install. The guys on site are professional and hardworking. Wether you need a complete new landscaping design, a patio, turf management, or having the milch beds cleaned up they will treat you like you are their only customer.

State of the Art does a great job. I've been using them for several years. They do regular lawn service for me. Grass cutting, edging, cleanup, weeding. Additionally, I have them do my spring clean up and the mulching of all my beds They are very punctual and have consistently done a great job. I would recommend them to all my friends and neighbors.

The turf manager, Bill, is knowledgable, attentive, and responsive. He comes out personally to analyze the soil, listen to our objectives, and discuss options to reach a mutual understanding of the program to implement. When we moved to this property several years ago, there was no grass, just weeds, on almost an acre. At the same time, we got the property certified as a wildlife sanctuary, which means we are trying to minimize chemical treatments. Bill put together a solution that took care of the weeds and restored our front lawn within one season and advised us how to convert the back yard to a woodland garden that blends naturally and asthetically with the surrounding woods. In the succeeding seasons, he has helped us significantly cut down on the fertiziler, herbicide and pesticide treatments while nurishing the front lawn with more organic treatments to maintain our curb appeal. At the same time, our monthly cost decreased. We've used their landscape service once, and the designer was equally attentive and responsive to our goal of a more naturalized yet still sophisticated and tidy look. In summary, State of the Art is easy to get ahold of, works to meet our requirements, and offers a reasonable price; they don't try to just sell you stuff you don't need or want.

We love State of the Art - this company is top notch. This is the second yard that they have absolutely transformed for us. The workmanship is superb; the crew that came out here was phenomenal and cleaned up after themselves every single day. They were here during the hottest part of the summer this far (where temps were 95+ every day) and worked all day, every day, until the job was done.
We initially had them come look at our yard in 2012; it took us nearly 2 years to figure out what we wanted to do and then execute the plan and not once did I feel rushed. In the interim, we decided to have another company install some hardscaping for us, in an effort to save on costs. What a mistake. The hardscaping job was completely botched - it was a nightmare. I called SOTA and asked them to come out and take a look before the job was finished, b/c we had extensive damage to our yard and I knew that they were going to have to fix it. I received some great advice from SOTA that helped me guide the hardscaping company as they finished the work, and then we were able to provide an invoice to them from SOTA as to what it was going to cost us to fix they shoddy work.
SOTA then came and remediated some of the issues with the drainage/etc. that had been caused by the first company, and removed all of the sand/gravel that that company had left all over our grass, replaced it with sod, etc. Along with that, they helped solve some longstanding drainage issues and also made our backyard a place we truly love to be! Jonathan started the process for us, and when he moved Pat helped us refine the design and was the project manager that oversaw the installation. Jose, our foreman, was wonderful, easy to communicate with, and very receptive to my Type A personality and micromanaging.
About 5 days after the work was finished, Pat stopped by to check on how the plantings and sod were doing, make sure we were watering enough, and generally see how the landscaping was doing as we had several thunderstorms and very hot weather. We had a few additional drainage issues and he was great about addressing them immediately and offered to send out another crew to do some additional repair work.
This company is not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. I felt well-taken care of throughout the process and never felt pressured into any decisions. When I gave Pat and Jonathan vague direction (i.e., and quot;I don't really like that, but sort of like thisand quot;) they were able to take that information and turn it into a concrete plan which I very much appreciate. I will try to upload some pictures so you can see the work that was done - we have received many compliments and best of all, we truly enjoy being outside our house!

3The company comes to the house and blows leaves to the street, Fairfax County comes on a listed day and sucks them up with a vacuum truck. They have done this for three years and have gone from $180,00 in 2010 to $360.00 in 2011 and 2012 to $450.00 in 2013. They do a good job but their price is just getting to high.

Kevin and his team are not contractors but partners is designing, installing, and maintaining all my homes landscaping needs.
I was introduced to Kevin about four years ago when I moved in to a newly consructed home.
We woroked over the years to design a great landscaping plan that involved new planting beds, hardscaping to complement a new deck and patio, functional needs of taking care of things like spreading gravel under the deck and addressing major drainage issues, as well as installing low voltage lighting throughout my property.
I would not hesitate recomending State of the Art, and I do to all of my famiyl and friends. They are always there and their knowledge and idea have notn only made our home beautiful but also saved us a lot of money along the way.

They were so professional. They're a great partner, we worked we them, they cleaned after themselves, they're really punctual and they do what they say they were gonna do. They're topnotch guys. They come and check on our yard just to make sure everything is okay, very proactive in informing us if we need to take care of something.

The experience was very good. I was very pleased. One of the supervisors came by to see me to walk around the yard with me and see all the work that had to be done. He gave me an estimate that was within the price range that I was figuring that it would probably be. He was very informative in terms of some of the things I had in my yard that I didn't know what they were. He was able to tell me what they were and he gave me a written estimate that same day. When I called him back to say I was going with their company, he was very pleased and he said he would get it on the schedule. They showed up on Monday like they said, at 7:15 in the morning. I saw the supervisor out in the yard walking around with the foreman showing him everything that had to be done. There were five guys and they got to work. You wouldn't believe all the work I had that had to be done. Our yard was very overgrown. In a day and a half those five guys had it looking pristine. They showed up on time. They worked non-stop until four in the afternoon. They were here yesterday again at 7:15 and finished up everything around 10:30. We had some additional work done. They took out three or four bushes and a huge dead some kind of shrubbery and they put in decorative grass. I thought the price was reasonable for the amount of work that had to be done. We had a huge amount of bushes in our backyard and we had some strange decorative trees and edging had to be done. Mulched areas were overgrown with weeds. There were holly bushes that were way overgrown in terms of height and a tree upfront that they cut back so that there's a canopy. They just did a tremendous amount of work. The supervisor, Pat, is going to be calling me back in the next day or two because I want to work out a schedule with him where they come back once a month or every two months to weed and edge and mulch and trim as needed to keep the yard looking nice. We are very pleased with them. They stuck to the time frame that they told me. He said it would take a couple of days, which surprised me, I thought it would take longer, but he had a couple of extra guys. He had a crew of five, so they got it done in less than a day and a half. They really worked hard and it looks really good.

Could not be happier with the responsiveness, creativity, and genuine approach this company has had towards me and my needs. When we moved to a new house in a new community, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do with the exterior of my home in a big picture kind of way....but they really helped me drill down to do things with great ideas and solutions all while listenign to my thoughts on the subject and workign with me in detail on everything.
Kevin, the owner and Jonathan, my prjoect manager have been extremely helpful ,and patient with me as we get closer and closer to achieving my vision. This has included; grading and installing rocks under a new deck, transplanting many trees and removing ones that have dies, creating tree beds and new planting beds around the house and a new patio, as well as givign me ideas for dealing with unique parts of my yard that i couldn;t fgure out what to do with. They have also installed outdoor lighting on trees and in beds for us that have everything looking great when the sun goes down and I use them on a seasonal basis for trimming, mulching and edging.
If you are in search of honest, professional advice and great ideas when it comes to all things landscaping I cannot reccomend this team more highly. Prices are competitive and their knowledge about their business is as good as it gets.

Several services performed over the course of 18 months. All were performed in a very professional manner, and the company even came back a few times at my request to assure me that the new seed they had put down just needed a little time to germinate, when I was concerned! They did a little additional seeding on my request when I wasn't happy with a and quot;baldand quot; area in back, and laid out an 18 month plan of attack for getting my well abused lawn back in shape. Also took care of major trimming of trees and bushes needed throughout the yard front and back. All in all, even when I disagreed with parts of the work or the approach, they worked with me and offered either acceptable explanations for my lacking understanding or changes to the approach. Very professional and well thought out. Kevin (owner and General Manager) even comes by with his daughter on walks now and then on Sundays just to check on the yard progress! Can;t ask for much more than that.

We had tried other landscapers before we used State of the Art. This company is better than any others we have used for these services and we continue to use them for many years. They are responsive. Definitely not the least expensive, but neither are they the most expensive. Sometimes they get complacent and I tend not to be as on top of things as I should be so they may just and quot;ignoreand quot; problems that they see and probably could be more proactive about things that need to be addressed. But when I bring things to their attention they are quick to reply and investigate.
