Ultimately the schedule slipped by 2 months (not any fault of ours). In addition, we were sold on many aspects of their offering to include design and finish recommendations. We quickly learned that despite Nuance being able to take our ideabooks from Houzz and replicate them via a rendering software they were not able to provide design advice. We ended up hiring another company to come and help us through those decisions.

In summary, the quality of the work was satisfactory and that is only because my husband and I had to ask them to redo work over and over again. We had to literally find directions for installations in spanish so that their staff could properly install, had to draw and print out reminders of designs that weren't ultimately followed and had to be redone, multiple items were delivered to the house that were accepted by Nuance and not checked for accuracy and resulted in many returns and time delays, our fireplace was installed without the 4 inch reversible flue assembly which allowed fireplace gases to enter our home and only after my husband got the manufacturer, Nuance and the ordering company involved did Nuance realize they had not installed that piece which was downstairs and had to redo our fireplace facade and reinstall new fireplace (which you can imagine we checked and double checked to ensure was done correctly). We constantly had to point out flaws in the cofferred ceiling work, painting, cabinetry installation and bathroom fixture installs. Had work been done properly the first time, I believe Nuance would've completed the work on time. We also had to compromise on the design a couple of times because they had not communicated issues in a timely fashion and thus we ended up settling to minimize the delay in schedule.  My husband and I had to be the project managers!!!

We requested many times a meeting/walk through with the owner who refused and pushed us to the project manager who we obviously did not trust. Escalation did not work in this case, so we decided to just write the final check and be done with the pain and stress. My father in law had to come down from out of state to finalize and redo work.  The built ins around our fireplace hinges had to be redone, cabinet door hinges redone, a wood trim piece in the stair had fallen and needed redoing, the range hood exhaust vent needed to be properly weatherproofed to keep water from entering the home, along with many other small things. There were many imperfections we were willing to live with because we were not demanding perfection for the price we paid but simply getting acceptable quality work was like pulling teeth!

In summary our biggest disappointment is the program management, communication (between Nuance and their subcontractors as well as to us) and ultimately quality of work. We had Nuance come back yesterday to fix cracks that had already appeared in the grout work in our master bathroom. The work was done with a different texture grout that does not match the original installation, unevenly and obviously of low standard. Thus, we've decided to finally just write a review being reminded of the stress, issues and disappointment we'd had over the months.
Response from Nuance Inc.
"[Member name removed], Thank you for your honest review and I apologize you guys feel this way. We understand how stressful it can be to move and try to have everything "complete" before you move in. Unfortunately, and this was expressed many times. We can not rush the process. We try to stay fluid and communicate with our clients to deliver everything they want while maintaining a realistic budget and timeline and obviously in this instance it left us looking as we didn't care. We were merely not trying to rush anything to avoid major mistakes. Mistakes were made due to the "rush" factor and no one is perfect but we did go above and beyond to communicate and complete in a timely manner. Please keep in mind the scope changed drastically since we first met and we did the best we could with the budget allocated. I kindly ask you to really evaluate your review and understand how detrimental it could be to our small family business. I personally have to disagree and hope you can reconsider your action."

We contacted the contractor through Angie's list and within a week, we had an on-site estimate and the work was completed.  The ceiling looks great.  (The entire ceiling had to be removed for previous plumbing repairs.)  The contractor was on time, very professional, and did a great job cleaning up afterwards.

We used Nuance for a prior project, bathroom remodeling, and they do not disappoint. Jason and his crew chief Julio were professional, always punctual and ensured they cleaned up everyday before leaving the premises. They were responsive to minor changes we had suggested and post project needed to return to the residence one time for a minor fix. I highly recommend them. They were able to work within our budget, making suggestions on how to reduce costs. We interviewed other contractors for comparison pricing. Typical for this area they cited high costs due to the locale, Northern Virginia, which did not resonate very well with me. That said, these guys are personable and most importantly take pride in their work.

They actually transformed it from completely unfinished full basement to a lovely space with a media area, bar, guest bedroom, full bath, finished and unfinished storage spaces.  We receive compliments on the workmanship frequently.  We had some pretty daunting requests, and they researched and constructed things beautifully.  We asked for the installation of a steam shower.  They researched the most current and successful methods to do so, and the results were stunning.  They went the extra mile for us when some external difficulties (beyond their control) arose, and resolved them beautifully.  It was a lot of fun collaborating with them for their creative ideas.  They were also very flexible when our ideas went in a different direction from our original theme.  They were receptive to our design ideas in tweaking some interesting storage options for the space.  If there were any problems whatsoever, they were immediately responsive and took care of any issues seamlessly.  During a severe storm, they had a generator reserved to insure that the space would be protected.  They were very helpful in suggesting options for every price range and had many ideas that we hadn't thought of previously.  We worked well in concert to figure out finishes, structures, hardware, and themes.
We have used this company exclusively for many years as they have evolved as well.  Their painting and exterior expertise has made them our go-to company for many issues.  When we had an external issue with our Drivet early in 2013, they were extremely cooperative, competitive in price, and fixed the issue affordably.

The team at Nuance is the BEST!!  We have used their services in the past for our previous home and are so pleased that the crew was able to come to Alexandria to make out new house a home. This was a 4 day job. The crew was prompt, prepared, covered floors and furniture and worked hard all day long.  The wall and trim paint is perfect and we used different colors with white trim.  Not a mistake anywhere.  We appreciated the level of expertise and how easy it is to work with Jason and Kevin Yaussy and their crew.  Every email and phone call was promptly returned and allowed us to discuss changes along the way.  We plan to hire Nuance Remodeling for more work on our home once we are settled in. We trust them with our home.  Thanks!

Nuance painted over faux painting in an interior room and the job was precise and perfect. We were very pleased. They also came back to wash, calk and paint our exterior trim. Great attention to detail and the work was done on time. Very responsive compared to others we contacted for quotes.

I got three estimates for this very large interior painting project. I had used Nuance to paint my townhouse in 2001 and some wallpaper removal and painting in our new home a few years ago - so I knew they did great work at a competitive price. Their bid came in $500 less than the nearest competitor so I gave them a contract. This was a big job as we were painting our house top to bottom. Nuance did extremely good work in a timely fashion. The project foreman Julio was terrific and courteous. They cleaned up after themselves everyday and kept the mess and disruption to a minimum. Punch list items were handled quickly and effectively by the next day. This was a great experience from start to finish. Nuance is a family owned business and owners Jason & Kevin are always available if you have any questions -- and checks the work of their crew personally.
