About us

B.R. Middleton Concrete, Inc. has been serving the Northern Virginia area for more than 40 years. B.R. Middleton (Billy) started his home-based business in the early '70s doing residential concrete work. As the company grew, Billy stayed true to his mission of providing superior customer service, while branching out into commercial construction. Billy retired due to an illness in 2004, however, the business thrives today under the management of his wife of 51 years, Pat Middleton. The primary focus of the company today is on residential work, with a strong presence in commercial. In addition, we work in collaboration with Billy's nephew and other trusted crew leaders who have worked for the company for more than 20 years.

Pat Middleton responded within hours to my original email inquiry and this made a great first impression with me. She kept to her word about showing up, and she was always on time. In the initial consultation, she thoroughly explained what she would need to do to clean and repair the stairs so that the salt damage would not continue eroding the concrete under the Miracote. She answered my many questions and clearly set expectations. Her follow-up, including providing the estimate, was prompt. Pat and her team were friendly and a pleasure to work with. The work was done over the course of 3 days because of weather. My stairs are beautiful again! Pat and her team returned a few days later to do some very minor touch-ups. She was responsive to my request and did the touch-ups when she said they would be done.

They have done three jobs for me over the past 15 years, obviously they are very good, that is why I keep coming back to them. Unlike those absent owner/boss, Pat is very attentive and she is on the site all the time to make sure all the job done to the highest standard.

Based upon my perceived past good reputation and so-called concrete expertise, Pat Middleton's emphasis that crew members were long-standing employees, that they performed exemplary work and site clean-up ("that's the way we work"), her personal on-site supervision (nonexistant here) and customer relations/satisfaction, I contracted to have the above-referenced work done. As senior citizens (in mid-70's), I relied upon the written and verbal assurances/promises made to correct and alleviate our concerns, workload and improve appearance. With only lip-service and nonaction to correct the shoddy, sub-standard/inferior work, and nonperformance of contract, my conclusion is that Pat Middleton is a very talented "con" artist. A few pictures are attached as examples. The longer it sits, the worse it gets and more and more defects become evident. Cracking of what Pat Middleton referred to as a "curb" up against and on top of landscaping timbers; cracking at step-downs; shoddy concrete finish work; terrible patchwork performed; drainage unadddressed; dirt (filled with cement, rocks, gravel) unsatisfactorily graded, sloped and washing toward house; fence not stretched and bowing in center (unaddressed); handrail has black, white and blue screws (unaddressed); I was in the pouring rain moving the dirt they piled up at side of slab filling the trench left along sidewalk diverting the muddy water heading toward my stone patio during which time I unearthed cement convenietnly buried under dirt (picture attached shows a small amount); with no regard to or concern for an existing stone wall, the sidewalk was installed at an unsightly angle (not parallel to the wall); the sealant at the diveway is coming away from the house; with the sealant and concrete curb installed, the last rain we had 3+ inches of water against the house and concrete curb; with traffic, rain and time significant damage is evident to our existing drive. Our workload has been compounded instead of lessened. These are only highlights. We were much better off leaving our property as it was and/or hiring a company that knew what it was doing and would perform a proper job as Pat Middleton emphasised they would do. I have paid the complete price even though they have not completed the project, and not fixed the defects that have occurred. There is now a crack along the entire width of the slabs. Cracks are widening each day.
Response from MIDDLETON CONCRETE WORK

"Would be nice if I had a phone call to go back and repair any compliants you may have. I did go back and when I left you said everything was alright. I can fix any drainage problem but you need to let me know. I do remember one of my men had pput some od concrete under some trees and I work on the area and took everything away myself. Concrete screws are blue and I can paint them black if you want. The only thing next to the house was to be caulked which we did. I stand behind all of my jobs, but you can't do anything about something if you don't know there is a problem. The last time I was there, I told [member name removed] to call me if she had any more problems. The rocks on the patio have nothing to do with the work and the mudd next to the patio was suppose to be filled in and landscaped around the patio. I have pictures of the job before and after and the job turned out very nice. Pat Middleton"

Excellent work, great attention to detail. These folks are very easy to work with. They came and gave me an estimate, kept in touch on scheduling, came when they said they would and performed admirably. I would certainly hire them again and recommend them highly.

I spoke with Pat Middleton after a bit of phone tag. Described the job I was looking to have completed and time frame I wish to have it done within. They came out within the time stated to measure to quote the job. I called back with what day I planned to have it done on. The crew showed up on day one and took up asphalt and did a wonderful job; then next day once concrete mixer rig showed up the concrete was poured and they worked hard that day. The concrete set wonderfully and I took pic's the the various stages of the job. All the neighbors checked out the new driveway and now wish to have theirs done, because it was such a professional job and adds $$$ and years to the look of your home.

Great! Prompt with both estimate and performance. Work area was neat, and they did exactly what I asked and what they told me they would do. They were very polite and efficient. I don't know how the price compared because I couldn't get other companies to return calls or provide quotes, maybe because it was a small job. I was satisfied with the price.
