Interior Painting
Mr. Payne was hired to paint the interior of my home. I discussed with Mr. Payne the need for primer in addition to my request for two coats of paint. Mr. Payne did not think primer was necessary with the application of two coats of paint. Our signed contract calls two coats of paint to all ceilings and walls. Mr. Payne instead, selected to apply only one coat of paint with one coat of primer. He stated he was behind in the prep work and the primer ?would soak in quicker? which would allow for him to start with the final coat of paint. Only one room in the home has the two coats of paint, the small bedroom.
In addition, Mr. Payne taped plastic over the gas fireplace for three days while working in the living and dining rooms. When he took the plastic off, the gas fireplace had stopped working. I have paid $165 to have the gas fireplace serviced and the pilot light lit.
Some of the prep work is of poor quality. Nails that were showing through the drywall were puttied over but have no sanding and the nails are still showing through.
Mr. Payne used the guest bathroom as his work center and to store his painting equipment. The bath tub was left with grit and the edge of the tub has several scratches and cuts.
The contract states that furnishings will be covered to protect from dust and paint fall-out. Mr. Payne did cover the furniture and taped off the area where he was painting. However, the plastic cover is 1/32 inch thick. Plastic this thin does not provide protection and all the furniture was covered in dust.
Mr. Payne placed his tools on my glass top dining room table. His cover was also the piece of plastic 1/32 of an inch thick; this is not adequate to prevent scratches or damage.
When Mr. Payne told me throughout the painting process he would make everything right, I believed him. It was only after he left that I realized he did not live up to his signed contract and his workmanship is less than expected for a long term, quality residence.
Mr. Lawrence Payne has been the impetus for a multitude of other problems to resolve.
UPDATE: December 10, 2013 completes the insurance and government review process for the painting services performed by Lawrence Payne. The resolution process has performed to the statute afforded it and for individuals allowed to participate in this process, it is appreciated. The entities have only the fortitude to report that information provided to them. The lack of objectivity and professionalism by the insurance company remains a disappointment however, their self-need is recognized. Lawrence Payne will not be in the position to tell another lie, at least, not for this experience.
