Communication with company sucks otherwise service performed went well

They were professional, friendly, thorough and very good.

Someone came out and looked at the project, however no estimate was provided. I contacted the person and was told they would get me an estimate. After several attempts to get an estimate I gave up.

Had an electric baseboard heater (about 11 years old) catch fire in its control housing (Kolb did not install this heater). Luckily damage was minimal, but I called Kolb to disconnect the heater's wiring and remove the heater from the wall. Electrician was out there that same day and we're very happy & relieved now that the heater has gone! I've used Kolb in the past (found them on Angie's List) to remove an old ceiling fan/install its replacement, and replace an exterior flood light fixture. They've always done a great job.

I received a listing of four contractors, including Kolb Electric, from Angies list for my lighting installation. Since Kolb Electric did not follow-up or contact me, I could not offer an overall rating regarding my experience with them. I provided Kolb Electric with an overall rating of "Fair" because I believe that at a minimum, I should have at least received a contact from them regarding my electric needs and/or their interest in doing the work.

The first electrician from Kolb took apart the fixture and repaired the lead wires. When stuffing the wires back into the box, there was a loud pop. The other room light didn't work after that and the electrician decided a short blew out all 3 new halogen bulbs. Since I didn't have spares on hand there was no way to check that. Later that day as evening came, we realized lights in other rooms were out too. This was now Friday evening after 5 PM. I called Kolb's 24-hour line. The operator was happy to schedule someone for Saturday service if I agreed to pay the Emergency Service rate. I had to get adamant to make her understand that was not appropriate in this case. After some heated agitation, she agreed to call the supervisor. She quickly called back with his approval for Saturday service. Clearly, she needed a little more customer service training, but I give Kolb credit for coming through. On Saturday, the second electrician spent hours troubleshooting the problem which turned out to be an almost invisible break in the wire that the first electrician missed. There was no additional charge for all that time. So, yes there was a hiccup, but once the problem was elevated, Kolb handled it perfectly.

Electrician Patrick came out in the time window I was given. He was very pleasant, and got the job done in slightly over 1/2 hour. Technically, he could have rounded up to the next 1/4 hour, but didn't, which I really appreciated. I now have a working back door light. I would definitely call Kolb Electric again.

Work, communication and the installation/repair team were top knotch, professional, communicative and timely. A+ for sure. The back office, booking, work order and dispatch for follow on work was more of a C, but this can be easily fixed and should not disway a new customer. Was some delay rescheduling the follow on work. Estimates not being processed in time for a work order to be created, or such excuses. Nessicated a lot of phone calls to coordinate, ultimately Kolb came out twice for the same work. But again, this is a back office issue. Back office personnel for follow on work, were clearly not interested in customer service.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. I'm not one to post many reviews, and I'm not one for hyperbole, but after my experience with KOLB Electric, I needed to warn others. While their work was 100% satisfactory in terms of execution, it was performed at an agreed-upon price illegally, and not made legal until I paid more money than what we had agreed. When shopping around for a company to use for an electric sign project, I got written quotes from several companies, and narrowed it down to KOLB Electric and Provident. Even though KOLB was the more expensive of the two, I chose to work with them because their ratings were higher. The job required a circuit to be run outside for an illuminated sign. In order to both run the circuit and to pull the sign permit needed later, an electrical permit was required. This was established prior to the work commencing, and both parties signed a quote with a set price. However, after the work was completed on the circuit, and the company we used to install the sign asked for the electrical permit, I was informed by KOLB that they had not pulled any electrical permit. KOLB Electric said that wasn't included in the quote -- but I agreed to the quoted price believing the work would be done legally. When I asked for the permit, they demanded an additional $200+ to pull the permit for work that should never have begun without it. My sign project was held up due to this, and in the end, because my business required the project to be complete, I had no choice but to pay what felt like ransom money to have my project become legal. Most concerning: why is a legitimate company doing electrical work without pulling the proper permits? Secondly, once it is brought to your attention that the work was not done legally, why would a legitimate company demand more money to make a job legal? I'm very disappointed, and I wish I had gone to Provident -- or really, any other company -- instead. Now that it's done, I can only hope this review keeps them from misleading someone else in the future.

Great! Technician was prompt and knew exactly what needed to be done. Will use this company again when needed.

Installer made two holes in the ceiling and one in the wall fishing for wires. No repairs were made on the holes. I have had many fan installations and have never had anyone make such a mess!

The electrician came, took it down, and said it couldn't be fixed because he couldn't even take it apart to even look at it. After looking at another problem I have, and giving me a quote of over 2,000.00 to fix it ( which I declined),paid him over 100.00 and he left. The next day, I took the fixture to a lamp store, the salesman took it apart in 5minutes, and fixed it for 39.00.

Great! They showed up within an hour of my first contact. They replaced a breaker with a more robust option that saved money and works great.
