TL;DR: Go with someone else. Most of the many problems with our international move were minor, but taken sum total they were absolutely unavoidable and unnecessary. I will say we started strong with Matthew, our Moving Consultant. He was the first contact we had and he was just amazing. Made figuring out the estimate super easy and almost fun, and made us feel valued and appreciated. That value and appreciation ended with him, however. Our relationship with the Move Coordinator was much less cooperative or productive. I’m not sure he was even in our time zone to be honest, and communication with him was impossible by both phone and email. Communication issues become a common thread, and while not specific to the Move Coordinator, it was with him that there should have been the most contact, since he was responsible for….well, coordinating the move. You can’t simply call someone at JK. You have to go through this odd phone tree/voicemail thing, even as a customer who’s put down the deposit. Not great when there are issues. And, issues there were. Overcharges and being charged for things that never materialized, like a parking pass that wasn’t even applied for, despite being charged for. Being charged for a shuttle, when the actual container was delivered. Weights that didn’t make sense. A 10% guarantee (their words, not mine) that wasn’t calculated into our final fee. Things like that add up, and seems like either incompetence or a money grab, or both. I don’t want to say the incompetence extended to the moving crew. They were wonderful and extremely hard working but less than an hour into the move they weren’t sure everything would fit, despite us paring down a significant amount to get into the smaller container. The issue was actually due their their small stature, they couldn't reach high enough to fully pack the container. This is where communication became an issue; no one was answering phones (on any of their lines), and 9 am moves are great unless your coordinator is on West Coast time. The fix was simple; we used a ladder to fully pack the container, but why was that my job to figure out? Other communication issues persisted even after our items departed for shipping. Despite multiple calls to our Coordinator, and even his manager, they went unanswered. Crucially, we could never get an answer from our Move Coordinator about insurance. What should have been quoted well before the move, was actually quoted once it was on board the ship. We felt very much held hostage by his reluctance or incompetence…luckily in the end, our items arrived undamaged and despite paying for the insurance, it was unnecessary to file any claims. It would have been nicer knowing up front what it was going to be however. We were quite fortunate to have an excellent coordinator for the other end of the move in Europe. They were amazing, and we were quite fortunate to have them. They were amazing, professional, concise and responsive. They were NOT part of JK Moving, and it showed. We were able to occasionally get in contact with another coordinator, Courtney. She was awesome, and luckily filled in the many gaps as the original coordinator was unresponsive or overwhelmed or just didn’t care. She went above and beyond (or maybe just did the job that should have been done?) and offered a little bit of hope. We were excited to choose JK Moving, as they seem to have a reputation of excellence and dependability. They proudly proclaim that they move the White House. It was apparent to us that they may actually do that, but it was not with the team we were assigned. Not sure if anyone at JK Moving reads this, or even cares, but we never had a follow up from anyone after the move, except to ask for more money for an incorrect invoice over 2 months after shipment. I have receipts, and I have nothing to gain from embellishment. You would have nothing to gain from using JK Moving’s services except more unnecessary stress on an already stressful situation.

I was quoted $4,955 for a move from a 2 bedroom apartment. They do a good job moving stuff and don’t break anything, but my final total came out to $6,414, which is nearly $1,500 / 30% higher than the quote I received!! I realize that it is an estimate, but to be off by 30% is totally unacceptable. On top of this, my fiancée and I spent 2 hours packing our hanging clothes for the movers and we still got charged nearly $1,500. If I knew that my total was going to be $6,414, I never would have gone with this company. This is borderline predatory. Steer clear of this company unless you want to pay significantly more than they quote you.

Great, on both ends, both the packing in Virginia and the move-in in Massachusetts. As well as the initial visit from Dave (sorry, I do not remember his last name) to give us the quote. On both ends, we were kept informed every step of the way. We were told that the movers would be at our house in Virginia between 8:00 and 10:00 am and they were there at 7:59am. They went through the house with me to get an overview as to the move. They stored the goods for two weeks between closings. They were able to give us a great price on storage, which we appreciate the work Dave did in order for that to happen. He definitely went above and beyond. We got a call on Friday confirming that the move-in would be Sunday between 8:00 and 10:00. We received another call Saturday from Al, the driver to confirm the time on Sunday. We appreciate the call from Al, just to give us another level of assurance. Al gave me a call around 7:30 Sunday morning to tell me he was about twenty to thirty minutes away. Again, appreciate the call. He and his crew - Jay, Umberto, and Benny were extremely professional. It was a pretty big job, up a lot of stairs, but they did it without complaint. The job was done quickly, the crew was great, telling stories of past moves. They did a great job preparing the house (blankets on door frames, paper on floor, etc.), and the house was left in better shape than before they got there. It's been about a month, we found nothing damaged, nothing worse for wear during the storage (we were afraid of mildew on the clothing, but we followed all JK's suggestions to prevent it and it worked), and everything in excellent condition. We used JK ten years ago to move across town, and they did as great of a job up the East Coast. Would definitely use them again. Yes, they are move expensive then some of their competitors, but they own their own equipment, it is not a franchise, and you get what you paid for. You're trusting them to move your life across the town or across the country. This is something you don't want to cheap out on.

The team worked well together and listened to my requests. Every piece of furniture was carefully packed in moving clothes, shrunk wrapped and crated. They also took care to protect the walls and floor. A well trained group of individuals.

Everything went as planned. Drivers showed up on time and were very careful with our belongings and the house. There was no damage to either house and minor damage to a few items.

Do NOT use this moving service. Although the crew that picks up and moves boxes and furniture etc. are hardworking, the rest of the operation is horrible. The cost far exceeded the estimated price, and JK refused to acknowledge responsibility for damage to items stored in their Sterling facility. JK blamed me for the damage. They denied a claim despite the crew and person who came to check on the damage saw that it was caused by something leaking externally onto my possessions. The reasons given for denying the claim did not at all correlate with what actually happened. I regret having chosen JK.

The move went as smoothly as it possibly could have. Before the move, JK staff visited our house and briefed us completely in person, on-line and over the phone. On the day of the move, the 6-man crew arrived just a half hour into their 2-hour arrival window. All JK personnel were professional, courteous, highly competent and clearly experienced. The crew led by Justin, and including Chenna, Al, Pablo, Randy and Nathan is an experienced team, and they worked together quickly, efficiently and with absolutely no breakage or damage. Their excellent customer service, combined with a total cost that came in below the original JK estimate, means that my wife and I are fully satisfied customers. Without reservation we would recommend JK Moving -- and especially this particular crew -- to anyone seeking home moving services.

It was great! They packed our furniture and nothing was damaged. Everything was delivered in a condition before we stored it in a year. The guys were great!

The move and the movers were punctual, asked questions, surveyed the items to move, etc. the contact person for my move was very professional, polite, available for questions. The problem I have? I didn’t buy the $100 deductible insurance. Why is that important? They broke an insert for my table, no longer able to repair or use it, and they didn’t tell me. They just brought it into the house and hid it behind boxes. When I discovered it, I entered a claim. They denied the claim because I didn’t buy the “insurance”. If I thought the professional movers were going to break things, I would have done that. Bottom line, claim refused. Move went great. We fed the guys, tipped then, gave them water and Gatorade. We took care of the workers because we cared about their well being. Buy the insurance so you don’t get Denied if you enter a claim to replace your broken stuff.

Just excellent. Timely, careful,courteous, professional. Same crew packed,loaded, and moved. Second time used. First was company move, this one was on me. Worth every dollar

The entire team was very professional. The rep came out and gave us a quote that was about in the middle range. The movers arrived on time and took great care to protect our items. The move was carried out efficiently and we had no issues.

They are superb! They are expensive but they handle your stuff as if its theirs. You get what you pay for, at the end of the day what we wound up with the price was worth it. They handled the antiques with precision. 

They came to our home and discussed in advance. They were right on point every step of the way. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

JK had handled an office move for my company, so I was familiar with the company. Some of the high points: Their estimate was higher than other companies, but mainly because they rightly estimated the amount of stuff I was moving. The driver who came to get my stuff is the same driver who dropped it off in California. Everything that was on the list that got on the truck was unloaded off the truck. Only one item, a floor lamp, was missing, and it somehow never actually got logged as being loaded on the truck in Virginia. Just about everything arrived in perfect condition. (A different floor lamp didn't work, but I have found floor lamps to be pretty delicate flowers that can break if you move them into another room let alone across the country.) Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality of people they hire at JK and the care they take in accounting for and moving my belongings.

This was certainly not a good experience. During the move, the movers caused significant damage to our front door and door frame (included 3 pics below for what JK will do to your house). After the move was completed, we forwarded the pictures to JK to begin the process of being made whole. Unfortunately, their Claims Assistant informed us that they were going to deny liability. It wasn’t because that they didn’t incur the damage (they don’t deny that), but they denied liability based on a “Performance Confirmation” document that was allegedly signed. This didn’t jive because we were given copies of everything signed (inventory listing, bill of lading, Additional Services). Nothing we signed waived liability, and I knew not to sign anything waiving liability because of the damage to our front door at the point of origin. Obviously, I am not too impressed with their operation and would highly recommend staying away.

The work was done very well. The movers were professional and polite. The financial part however was a disaster. We paid for the staging move when it occurred. We paid fore the pack out of the second shipment. All the remained was the final transport estimated at $4529.11. They called once the truck was unpacked and said they did not have the exact weight so they were going to,charge our card 110% until they could finalize. The movers said they were not told to weigh out so they didn't have an exact weight. JK charged our card $13155.95. Although it is a pending charge it has impacted our available credit during a move. After several calls and 3days they have submitted a rebate of $6682.00 and charging $6473.95 with no explanation of where this amount came from. And because it's all pending it still has consumed all my credit available. The customer rep said she would call by noon today but has not called. I have other deliveries coming and in order to pay them I will have to make a large payment on my credit card because of thei mess. I still have no idea when this will be resolved or the basis of the charges. I find this extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. This was their mistake and after 3days they have not corrected it properly.

I would not use JK Moving Services again.

They were quick. They did dent our wall in our town house but that was something that I don't think they could have avoided. Because, we have our desk that was downstairs and the desk weighed a tonne. These guys...I think they were four of them and I have to say, they did a really good job. Besides the little dent in the wall, they really took good care of our furniture and moved it very quickly. So I can't say anything bad.

Excellent experience. The guys were fast, neat, polite and friendly. They took extreme care in handling our furniture and it arrived without a scratch. Francisco was particularly helpful and Javier and Jorge were also excellent workers. I think JK is a bit on the high side price-wise so we moved a lot of our things ourselves and negotiated an acceptable fee to move our large items. We have used JK before and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking a professional moving experience.

The movers were extremely efficient and took great care of our belongings. Nothing was broken or damaged. Would hire again.

The move was flawless. The team was punctual, professional, courteous and diligent. No corners were cut, ever task was done thoroughly and with care. You absolutely get what you pay for - top quality movers. I'll will only recommend JK Moving from now on.
