"[Member name removed], Thank you for your business and please enjoy a beautiful new granite countertop. Ayoub ONAL"
Ayoub and Tim were very pleasant to deal with. We originally got a quote for cabinets as well, but choose to do that work ourselves. This allowed us to purchase the more expensive and beautiful granite. Even after rejecting their proposal for the cabinets, Ayoub was helpful and a pleasure to work with. The countertops were installed in an afternoon and look great. My only complaint (really too strong a word) was the cutting board did not come at the time. It is not as large as I expected considering the size of the piece cut out for the sink.
"[Member name removed], I apologize for delaying the cutting board that we promised to you. My crew totally forgot the cutting board, Ms Quiram stopped by other day to pick up the cutting board. Again We do appreciate your business and please enjoy a beautiful new countertop. Thank you. Ayoub ONAL"
We recently purchased a quartz countertop from Granite Expo. We were doing a complete kitchen gut and remodel and I was not satisfied with any granite colors and was intrigued by the durability of quartz. The sales rep, Ayoub, was very helpful in showing me the various slabs on site as well as the samples they had on display. I was able to use a similarly colored cabinet sample on site, and potential backsplash to make my vision come to light. Upon initial estimate, we thought one slab would do, but ended up needing two slabs which almost doubled the cost (not a complaint, just fact), I nearly backed out of my choice and went with granite, but decided to go for the more expensive product. I am so happy that I did. The product is beautiful and the installation/seaming is phenomenal. I don't know if that's part product, part installer, but I am so thrilled with the end result.
Another reviewer commented on the damage to drywall at install, I too was surprised that part of the process was cutting into the drywall, and a "slamming" of the product in to get the right fit, but I will say that the installer confirmed that we'd be putting up a backsplash before doing anything to the drywall. The team did some cutting onsite to assure the fits were perfect (we had 3 separate pieces of the quartz for various countertops). While the team was not very verbal, they worked well together and almost had a dance going with simply hand signals most of the time. It seemed as if they'd worked together for awhile and new what they needed to do.
As far as service, I have had regular contact w/ Ayoub, and have been satisfied with how quickly he responds. We ended up having a delay to our install due to weather (snow), but he was quick to accommodate a reschedule based on what worked for us, and also sent me photos from the fabrication process as I had questions pre-install.
I've only had the countertops for less than a week, so I'd need to report back if there were any issues unseen at this point, but I am very happy with how our countertops came out.
Gentleman, We just wanted to let you know that we are very pleased with our new granite kitchen countertops. Our experience with Granite Expo was excellent. The whole process, from our first visit to your showroom to the actual installation, was professionally handled by their people. We were able to see large pieces of the granite we were interested in and make a decision based on more than just a 3 inch sample. Your in-home estimator was prompt and very courteous. He even came by a second time to ensure one of the measurements. And the installation was on time and only took one day including the plumbing. We would recommend Granite Expo to anyone.
When they had to install it the countertop was built too big so they cut out the drywall and actually smashed the granite into the drywall to make it fit. Then they put shims back in to get the joint/seam tight and when they did this they cracked the seam. The first problem was the way they installed it; they seriously damaged the drywall. The second problem is they put a crack in the seam near the wall. The next problem was when they installed the sink they had to come back four times to finally get everything installed right. When they first installed the sink they bent the sink and did not install it correctly. So they had to come back again and replace the sink. When they finally did come back the last time to replace the sink they used screws in a 2 x 4 block to hold the sink up. Which is not the right way to be doing it. They drilled the screws through the panel wall for the sink cabinet so that the screws stuck out on the other side and almost damaged our dishwasher. Part of the problem was GE's regular installer was on vacation the week of our install, so they sent other people who really didn't know what they were doing. However, the final fixes on the sink were done by the regular installer, but still were not very professional - very small bolts holding the sink up and screws screwed through the cabinet wall into the dishwasher space.
So there were a whole bunch of serious problems with the installation. They came back in and fixed the drywall, by putting a patch over the hole they made in the drywall. They replaced the sink and came back four times to try to fix everything. They have done everything that they possibly can do to fix it, but is unfortunate that they had so many problems go start with. The crack still exists in the seam, the repairs to the drywall are not very good and now everything is in so it is all final.
As an update, 3 months after the install we are having problems with small chips in granite countertop. This seems normal, as other people report the same problems, especially with kids around. We are trying to get Granite Expo to come back in and fix the chips under the warranty, but they want us to change our Angies list review before they will come back in.
Initially: the warehouse salesman was very nice and helped me select a beautiful slab and carefully went over how the veining would run on the L shaped counter and kitchen island. My own under-mount sinks and faucets were in great shape and style so they were being re-used. A new drop in gas stove top was ordered and template provided. I had requested an internal drain board to be grooved to the RHS of the sink and provided a picture of the existing one - which I wanted to replicate. The measurement at the house went fine.
Installation: The installers did a good job of removing the existing tops without damaging the custom tile wall behind the L counter.
What went wrong:
The last straw - discovered this week: The installers didn't put any silicone around the 2 undermount sinks before placing the countertops down. I was soaking vegetables and the water level was slightly above the sink, but well below the top of the counter: water went into drawers, under cabinets, all over the floor etc. What a mess. How could they have missed something so basic as the silicone??? WELL
1.The installers were to grout the back of the countertop to the existing tiled wall. They stuffed *paper *towels in the joint space and proceeded to use the colored 'sand' Part A of a two part epoxy grout (they were missing part B) and just left it that way - sand and paper towels and all. I had to clean up the mess and was given a credit to have a tile person come in to complete the work. The credit came after emailing pictures of the situation and heated discussion.
2. The custom drain board I asked for turned out to be simple saw cuts with no beveling. They are a real pain to clean out. The sales person subsequently told me I was a very difficult customer and no one had ever requested an internal drain board.
3. When the stove top was installed, there was a gas smell. A shutoff valve had been inadvertently damaged during installation. After another heated discussion, I did receive a credit for a plumber to come and rectify the problem.
4. The honed slab surface is beautiful, but there are several fine cracks that run over the counter edges. Perhaps this is why the price was more competitive because of the small flaws internal to the slab
There are many granite fabricators in the area, and subsequent to this experience I've had two PERFECT transactions with other companies. Shop carefully.
competitive. The countertops were ready within about 10 days, and the
removal of the old counters. installation of the new ones, and the
fireplace replacement took about fours hours in the morning. The only
glitch was that they forgot to call to let me know they'd be coming to
install the countertops. However, the work was done quickly, the plumber
arrived to install the new sink and reconnect the water as the
counter-installers were leaving. The whole thing was done within about
six hours.
