My love for horticulture and home repair comes from my parents. My mother was always out in her garden growing something, while my father, a cabinetmaker, always had a project that he was working on in his workshop. Here in Sterling, I continued what I learned by working at first on my townhouse, then on a small Victorian where I currently reside. I was born in Pennsylvania, and have been a Virginian since 1972. Degree in Horticulture from Northern Virginia Community College. Interdisciplinary Studies degree from Old Dominion University. Employed by the US Postal Service from 1977 to 2009 as a rural letter carrier. The majority of those years were spent delivering mail in Sterling, Virginia, mainly in the Countryside and Broad Run Farms communities.Full Service Landscaping Company and Home Repair Company. Chuck is a real pleasure to do business with. His demeanor is relaxed. His cost is very reasonable. My job was delayed by weather and a conflict with another job I had a different service contractor perform. Chuck was very flexible. My deck has a complicated rail design which caused the required work to be quite tedious. After he had provided a proposed cost, based on my plan to mask and tape the rail to keep stain from getting on the metal spindles, I disassembled the rail because it was less work for me. It also made the job easier for him. I was not trying to reduce his cost to me, but simply trying to avoid the hassle of masking and taping the rail for myself. He reduced his cost to me - a very fair thing for him to do - without my asking. I doubt that many service contractors in northern Virginia would have done the same.
Thee quality of his work is excellent and I will ask Chuck to do more work for me in the near future.
Chuck was very responsive and friendly by email. I asked about services and he stopped by the next day to give me an estimate. He set up a date the next weekend to do the work and then ended up finishing it a day ahead of schedule! His prices were very fair, work was just as expected and what we asked. We will definitely keep Flower Child on top of our list of service providers and will recommend him to family, friends and neighbors.
"I am sorry to hear that Members were not completely satisfied with the work that I had completed for them. Here is a list of the completed tasks: *Removed rock edging from the left side of the house, to a hole in the right rear of the property. * Pulled weeds from planting bed on left side of house, pruned plantings, edged and mulched entire bed. * Edged and mulched area around mailbox. * Dethatched, raked, and aerated entire lawn. * Applied 2 pickup truck loads of “Compro” to entire lawn. * Broadcast 2 bags of “starter fertilizer’ to lawn. * Broadcast 50 pounds of grass seed to lawn. * Applied top dressing of ‘Compro’ to entire lawn. * Rolled lawn with water filled roller to ensure seed to soil contact. * Filled in two low -lying areas on either side of driveway with additional “ Compro” to bring areas up to grade. *Applied seed and a biodegradable “seed mat” to these two areas to help in germination. * Watered in seed, and instructed homeowners on how and when to water seed. * Removed shrub and roots from right side of driveway, next to house. * Edged and mulched tree on right side of driveway. * Instructed homeowners to let the lawn get to at least 2.5 to 3 inches high before cutting. * Made several trips to look at property to see if seed had germinated. Several weeks passed, and the homeowner called to say that the lawn “ looks terrible in front of the mailbox where everyone sees it." I came back and removed the seed mat, loosened the soil, and applied more seed, “ Compro” and mulch (ground up newspaper with seed and fertilizer). I again instructed the homeowners on watering these new areas. The homeowner informed me 10 days later that there was no germination on the areas that I had replanted. I came by again and saw that the area behind the mailbox had filled in with some grass, but there was an area to the left of the mailbox next to the curb, about 3 to 4 feet, that had not germinated. I again loosened the soil in this area and a few other bare spots, reapplied more seed, and soil to cover the seed. I informed the homeowner via e-mail that I had put more seed down on the bare areas by the mailbox. The rest of the lawn was growing nicely. I checked on the lawn several times after this and waited to hear from the homeowner if he had any more concerns. I believe that I did everything I could to get the seed to grow in this lawn. Before I started on this project, I informed the homeowner that I do not use chemicals, and use only organic products to have a green lawn. I did not guarantee 100% germination rate with the seed that I used, but that I have achieved good results with this nontoxic green approach told the homeowner so. With the fall planting season coming up in September, I am willing to come back to the homeowners' property and sod the area directly behind and adjacent to the mailbox, (a 6’x12’) area free of charge. Hopefully, with the cooler weather this will resolve the situation. -- ~~~ Chuck Miller Flower Child Landscape Design & Home Repair Services [email protected] email 703.477.2780 phone www.flower-child.com web"
