It started with a very professional phone call for scheduling. The recommendation for my move was 5 men and 2 trucks at a rate of $230/hr. Movers were exactly on time. Team was professional, efficient, and very friendly. They inspected every piece of funiture before wrapping and made sure I was aware of any previous damage. They wrapped everything in both blankets and cellophane for a move that was only about 5 miles. I had wood floors at the destination and before they moved a single box the entire team went to work, without a word from me, covering the floors and carpets. I have moved perhaps 15 times with the military and these guys were the best I have seen. Worth every penny.

Great service. They were friendly and very fast at packing, loading, and unloading. They only down side was it took them almost 2 hours to drive from my my old condo in Reston to my new condo in Arlington. We all left my old place at the same time, and I drove straight to my new place in about 20-25 minutes. They told me they were going to swing by and grab lunch on the way, which was totally fine with me. However, I was assuming it would be more of a quick pit stop or drive thru that they would do for lunch. I ended up taking a nap on the hardwood floor of my empty condo as I was so bored waiting for them. I eventually called and they were in the neighborhood but couldn't find my building, so I went outside and waved them over. I completely understand getting lost, but I just wish they had called me or something so I knew what was going on, especially because I'm paying by the hour. They did end up discounting me 30 minutes. However, they did show up on time in the morning and the packing was finished way faster than I was anticipating. All in all they did a great job. Nothing was lost or broken and I do own a lot of breakables.

"Sorry about the time lost looking for your condo. The route you may have taken to your new condo may have been by way of Route 66 inside the beltway. Commercial trucks are not allowed on that portion of Rt.66 Construction in the area is terrible this year. Sorry about that! Thank you for your report here."

They loaded the truck one day, and unloaded the next day at our new house, which was about 25 miles from the old house. The crew wrapped everything carefully and worked quickly. Nothing was damaged during the move, the first time we have had a move without damage. The price was also good. I highly recommend Campbell.

Everything was absolutely fantastic. I told Bill that I was going to pack up my entire townhome, and that definitely was my intention. However, when the day of the move came I only had about 1/2 of the townhome actually packed up but Bill assured me that I could have the guys for as long as I needed them and we'd be able to get the job done. The guys worked very hard to help me finish packing and they were able to complete the move in one day (12.5 hours). It was 100 degrees that day and the guys did not complain at all and worked very hard and very fast. They were very polite and had a great attitude. All of my furniture arrived in perfect condition and they put the furniture together for us at the new house even though it was so late when we arrived. We are very thankful for all of their hard work.

Very well. They packed, moved, and did another half day of unpacking. They under estimated the amount of stuff we've accumulated. It took some more people than estimated but they worked hard and got the job done on time and within $400 of the estimated price. Nothing broken, scratched, etc.

"Thank you for your "A" report on us. We do try harder and realize how important every Angie's List customer is. If you realize just how hard it is to move and add the stress it surprises me that we keep getting mostly A reports. The potential for mistakes is huge for us so it adds a bit of pressure to keep everyone 100% satisfied. Thank you very much for your business. Bill Campbell"

From arranging the move on the phone to the move itself, I was very satisfied with the level of service we received. I had never used a moving company before and am happy I did this time. Although, the movers arrived about an hour late (understandable with DC traffic) they were extremely friendly, professional, and efficient. The only items damaged were some dishes I had packed myself. They wrapped all my leather and wood/glass furniture and were very careful with my belongings, even set up my bed for me. The price was more than quoted by a couple hundred dollars, but still was well worth it. They did not do a estimate visit prior to the move which may help them be more accurate in the future.

We learned that our new family room furniture would be delivered a lot sooner than we expected, and we had little time to get the old furniture out of the way. Campbell Moving agreed to take on this small job for a reasonable price and came to help us right away. We had them move about 10 large pieces of furniture from various rooms to other places inside our house. It only took half an hour, and was done perfectly. Great company!

Overall the move went great. Three guys showed up on time and knocked out the move in less than 2.5 hours time. The guys were professional and did a great job moving everything. I talked to both Bill and Leon on the phone, and they were very pleasant and again professional. There was some slight confusion (on both of our parts) regarding the price (specifically whether we would be paying for 2 guys versus 3, 3 hour minimum versus 4 hour minimum, Angie's List discount, etc.). In the end, we settled the confusion and got a fair price, and all is well. I do not hesitate recommending Campbell Moving and will likely use them again for future moves.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"Thank you Member for the report here. Sorry about any confusion you had on the minimum we have. The minimum is 3 hours plus 1 hour travel time for a total of 4 hours. I think you must have remembered 3 hours minimum plus 1 hour travel time for a total of 4 hours minimum. It can be confusing sometimes"

Mr Campbell himself came out for the estimate and did a very thorough job explaining the charges and the moving process. We were originally scheduled to move the weekend of a huge storm and Campbell's was very good about rescheduling. The packing process was efficient and the workers were professional and courteous. During the move, nothing was damaged, and everything went smooth. My only complaint is that the packers did not pack a couple of things I asked them to pack.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"Thank you for your fair report. As far as the items not packed, I believe it was opened containers of liquids, flammables, alcohol, and pressurized cans. These are a few of the items we can not pack. Also ammunition and firearms can not be handled by us. If we missed something other than these types of items please accept my apology."

We received our preferred date to move, and the experience was very good. The 3 movers arrived on time and were professional. They had all the equipment and materials with them necessary to do the job (several days later, we used a small moving company to do move items that were not packed the day of the big move -- we laughed that day over the difference between the movers; Campbell's guys were obviously pros carrying 2 boxes on their backs, etc., while the "small" guys were struggling carrying one in front of them and using handtrucks for everything). They seemed to work hard and had good attitudes.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"Thank you for your business a second time. We probably should have sent a second truck on the first day since you had a storage unit to be moved as well. Normally we do not send anyone to do surveys of apartment moves. Next time remind me it was 2 truck loads and I will get it right. thanks again for your business."

Although the person who came out to give me an estimate showed me pictures of how carefully they cover the floors and walls to protect them from damage, the movers did not cover anything when they came. As a result, mud was tracked on the carpets during the move. They did work very fast though, saving me a hundred off the original quote. My low rankings are because in their rush, they banged my refrigerator which was new causing scrapes and dents to the front of it. They made note of it but I did not hear from them again for repair or compensation for the damages. I called the company once and was told the owner was out of town and would call me after the holidays. It is the end of January (over a month after the move) and still nothing. To say that I am dissapointed is an understatement. I would not use them again.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"I TOTALLY APOLOGIZE for the missed call. I was notified about the scratch on the refrigerator by the crew and my sales guy right after the move. I was indeed leaving town right after this incident for the holidays and it just slipped through the crack. I am very sorry and will try to make it right with you today."

"Thank you for the chance to handle your move and the A AAAA report you gave us. We have been extremely proud of the reports most of our customers have written up for us. I have one particular crew that does my Angie's List customers so all the reports are basically about a four man crew I have. As far as the C grade on the report based on price, prices are all over the place within the moving industry and the lower rate companies are generally the outlaw companies that use day labor and not proper insurance. We will gladly furnish all our documentation prior to any move. Again, Thank You. Bill Campbell"

we would not recommend this Campbell Moving and Storage for the following reasons: Our move was a self-pack local move of 3 miles. As pre-arranged with the owner, the furniture, piano, and glass shelves were to be wrapped by the a four-man crew for a minimum four-hour charge of $135/hr. This move was to take place on Sunday morning 10/18/09, with the delivery scheduled for Tuesday morning 10/20/09. The agreement also included 2 days in-truck storage at the rate of $50 a night. On moving day, a three-man instead of a four crew reported for work. I gave the foreman and some of the crew a tour. Following the tour, I was in for multiple unpleasant surprises, with the piano being the first - somehow not anticipated by the crew. We were still preparing many things in the house we would be moving ourselves, so the crew felt that we were not ready for them. Contrary to their expectations, the boxes were not stacked in an orderly fashion by the door!!! Because it was raining outside, I politely asked the crew to please put down the floor runners, especially at the front door, to protect the hardwood which had just been installed in 2008. This request was met with an angry and abrupt response. One of the crew members (the same person annoyed about the piano) made a special trip upstairs to inform me that I should not be telling them how to do their job, adding that we were not ready for this move. The foreman joined the discussion asking if there was a problem, and then informed me they were the experts and did not need to be told how to do their job. I found his comments shocking as I was spoken to with disrespect and aggression. Needless to say I was very upset and felt intimidated by their words and actions. In my negotiations with the owner, I had requested that the marble table tops and glass shelves be wrapped by the movers. The first party mentioned above, told me that since this was not a Pack-out move, they didn't have the necessary boxes to do the job. Obviously, there had been a major communication breakdown, in that, I was under the assumption that when one is paying by the hour it does not matter if the client has specific requests, and that they would be prepared to pack the items agreed upon in advance. Additionally, our agreement with the owner included items to be handed down from the drop-down attic stair access - since, for their insurance purposes they were not allowed up. Agreed also, was that additional items had to be picked-up from the neighbor's basement, and our Extra Space Storage in Herndon. As mentioned above, it was raining and I noticed that two delicate French-polish antiques were sitting under a tree with water dripping on them. I asked the crew politely to please cover them to protect the water soluble finish, when the foreman exploded and told me this was the kind of "knit-picking and nagging" that created problems. I called the owner, unavailable at first, and clearly annoyed by being disturbed on his day off. He agreed to come by in an hour to assess the situation, and to bring an additional crew member (already included in the price). Upon arrival, he talked with his crew and then with me. He apologized, but without much sense of remorse, and with a caveat that his crew was experienced and didn't like being told what to do - not much of an apology. He said the crew knew about the piano, the glass, the marble, and the extra storage locations, but for whatever reason was unable to explain their reactions. My neighbor overheard the men in the truck threatening to leave, as I had as well earlier. When I mentioned it to the owner, he got defensive. He tried to save the day wrapping the glass and marble (at least 8 pieces) with our scraps of cardboard and bubble wrap and... my MOTHER'S help. For whatever reason, he could not, or would not, ask his crew to take care of this detail. Then he left, and promised a better crew for the Tuesday delivery. Sadly, the "expert" foreman supervised the move of the piano, telling his crew how he had so many years of experience, and in the end left a 4' long perpendicular gauge on the main floor hardwood. They also damaged the banister at one of the joints on the way down our difficult stairs. I discovered the damaged floor and banister as I was leaving the house, and requested Mr. Campbell to pay for the repair of the damages. I acknowledge that we had a lot of loose ends when the crew arrived, but since we were paying by the hour it should not have been an issue. Being a Sunday, we believe the crew was possibly annoyed by the size of the job, and perhaps not truly informed of the time needed for this move. The responsibility for the huge communication problem rests squarely on the shoulders of the owner, since it is his business, his management (or lack thereof), and his policies that drive the business and the staff. He should have given clear and concise directions and details. On the other hand, Tuesday's crew, including the individual added on Sunday later in the day, were professional, polite, attentive, courteous, and helpful - all the things you would expect from professional movers. They did everything, and then some, hoping to redeem the company and tame my complaint. To their credit, the only items damaged were a pivot-table that the move-out crew broke by removing the top from the base and cracking the base in the process, and some tape damage on some of the furniture. I expect the owner to pay for the repairs after the $100 deductible. Another issue that arose was that of the bill featuring incorrect pricing, for both days, in favor of the company, but corrected upon my speaking with the owner and reminding him of what we had agreed. In retrospect, I would neither would use this company again, nor would I recommend them to anyone. I regret my decision to hire them in an effort to support a local concern recommended both by our Herndon storage and Angie's list. However, I would hire individual crew members who did a professional job. This indeed was a traumatic moving experience, and my assessment is that the principle of customer service is neither encouraged, promoted, nor emulated by Mr. Campbell, as reflected by some of his employees.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"My feeling on this move is that had the customer been even halfway packed and ready for their move PRIOR to our arrival it would not have started off on the wrong foot. The customer declined our packing service and when we arrived we had to do the packing.I personally went over and tried to get it organized as soon as I heard about it that Sunday morning. I even packed all the marble, glass tops and pictures for 2 hours at no cost at all. for labor or materials. As far as the floor protection goes, there was no room on the floor to put it down until we cleared an area from the foyer and living room. Prior preparation would have made this move as good as the previous 25 reports we have documented here on Angie's List."

First, I would like to commend Campbell's for their communication. We were scheduled to move on Dec. 19, during the BIG snowstorm. Mr. Campbell contacted me personally through the 3 days we were juggling to try and move. We finally were able to move on Dec. 23rd. However, we were originally promised a larger truck and 4 men. Perhaps it was due to the amount of man power vs. the snow and jobs scheduled, but we received a smaller truck and only 3 men for the job. The entire move took 13 hours, and, again, I would like to commend the incredible effort that those 3 men performed. They worked from 9:30 until 10:30 at night to get us into our town home. Because of the small truck, it took two trips to and from Centreville to Woodbridge - therefore it cost much more than originally stated. However, I still commend the communication and fortitude of the men working on our job. Thank you so much, gentlemen. :) On a last note, some of our things came in scratched more than they had started with, and there were times I had to stay on top of what was being put on top of fragile things. Otherwise, the job was well done.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"Thank You for the report you filed. The snowstorm did not do me any favors and I appreciate your patience in waiting for us to be able to get your move done. We have 2 different size trucks but they are not that much different in size. The larger trucks are 34 feet in total length and the smaller ones are 29 feet. The 2 trips would have been necessary with either truck as 5 feet more would not have made the difference. Again, thank you for the praise of my crew. They appreciate hearing they were great."

Initially, I was very impressed with the company. I spoke with Leon at Campbell and he was very nice. I negotiated a rate of $135 per hour (all inclusive) for packing and moving my stuff. I spoke with Leon several times and he mentioned that the move would take anywhere between 4-6 hours i.e. $540 - $810. During our negotiations, after he had seen my apartment and furniture, Leon specifically mentioned that the move would cost me between $600 - $700 (all inclusive), assuming that overall, it would take the movers around 5 hours to move my stuff. Leon supplied some boxes a few days before the move so that I could start packing (some items on my own). I used his boxes and some of my own boxes to pack some stuff before the move date to save money. I spent hours packing before the move, just to make sure that the move takes less time overall (and I would pay them less). After the move, I was surprised and shocked to learn that Campbell moving had charged me an additional $144 for packing material. I had specifically negotiated an all inclusive rate. During my negotiations with Leon, I specifically asked if I would be paying anything extra and he denied. I told the movers that as per my conversation with Leon, I would not pay the $144 for materials (as we had an agreement for an all inclusive rate). The three movers did not seem very happy and told me that they would not leave my home until they collected the amount in full. I tried calling Leon several times and he never picked up the phone. He had assured me during our price negotiations that he would be available over cell phone at all times during the move (he eventually returned my call 4 days after the move). I had to pay extra for the boxes, just to get the three movers off my property. Also, I was concerned about my security and the security of my family. Finally, after 4 days, I spoke with Leon (after calling him at least 20 times). When I asked him why the cost of the boxes was not discussed earlier, he mentioned that "the topic never came up" (how ridiculous!). I demanded my money back and he refused. He offered me a 20% discount on the price of the boxes. I asked him to keep the money. I would never ever recommend Campbell moving to anyone. Not because of the quality of service provided for the actual move itself, but because the company's representatives are not willing to accept that they made a mistake and then take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.
Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
"The member is mistaken. His move took place over the Thanksgiving weekend. On the day before Thanksgiving we delivered 10 free boxes at his request. The day before that he switched his move date and we accommodated that. His original quote for moving only was $540 to $810 which was 4 to 6 hours. Campbell moving did both the packing and the moving in 4.5 hours $607. The boxes that we had to use for packing came to $144.This brought his total for BOTH packing and moving to $751. This is still less than the $810 he was quoted for moving only. As far as not responding, Mr.Krishna who by the way did not pay for this move but represented some one else in negations, called over the Holiday weekend when are office was closed. That Monday upon hearing from my crews about his concern a call was placed to him. The client paying for the move had written two separate checks to cover the cost. He basically wanted the boxes for free. He stated the move went great but he did not want to pay for the boxes we used to help him pack. I offered to give him 20% off of the boxes at which point he became belligerent and told me to keep the money. Moving is a very stressful time and under these circumstances sometimes words are misconstrued. Campbell moving is sorry that he feels the way he does however the service that we provided which was BOTH packing and moving was still completed under his original move only quote.Campbell moving takes great pride in it's 2 plus years of A ratings on Angie's List. We hope that one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch."

Everything was great from start to finish. When I called to get information, I got a real live person who answered the phone and was knowledgeable about the company's services. I even got a cell phone contact! The day before the move, they called to confirm. The movers showed up slightly late (but it was raining that morning and they were coming to Alexandria from Hearndon so I understood and didn't even mention it to the crew). Just fine. To save me money, Bill sent only a 2 man crew and agreed to a 3 hour minimum, saying that a 4 hour minimum was usual. In exchange, I agreed to be flexible about when they would provide the service, but they managed to come within a few days, which was idea. Absolutely no problems--no walls dinged, no furniture dropped, no unpleasant attitudes...the crew was efficient and did whatever I asked. I am always amazed at how quickly movers can relocate the heaviest items. I would have been happier with a mover that did not have any minimum, since I really didn't need them for more than an hour, but I am delighted with the service. [This is the B for cost--the per hour price was fine, I just would have preferred no minimum.]

"Thank you for the nice report. I am sorry we have to have a minimum on most jobs. It is costly to send out a large truck and crew. We typically try to have a 4 hour minimum so our crews can do 2 jobs a day and get their 8 hours. If we were to schedule 1 or 2 hour jobs we might lose out on being able to do a larger job on any given day.Thank you again from the Campbell Crew!!!!"
