The job was scheduled for today and the team, to include Mike (the owner), appeared right on time with all the necessary equipment. Within thirty minutes they were up and running. The Sweet Gum was taken first and I was extremely impressed with not only the proficiency of team but the safety measures throughout the whole process -- tree climber/cutter tied and cabled in with lead lines below and a spotter, hearing protection, face/eye protection, heavy "chaps" when cutting, ropes for slowing the fall of the large limbs and trunk parts, and area cleared when portions were felled. To ensure the yard was not destroyed Mr. Mitchell chose to lay plastic mats across the grass for backing the trailer closer instead of using a machine that would have easily picked up the logs and carried them to the trailer but would have destroyed the yard. The team hauled or rolled the branches and logs by hand. Backbreaking work. This tree was not ground due to not wanting to risk cutting the roots of the Black Gum trees on either side of the Sweet Gum. The backyard was cleared and cleaned completely before they began on the front yard White Oak.
The process was repeated for the White Oak but included cutting the limbs to fireplace sized logs and loading into my truck bed. I had hoped for more wood out of it but without splitting any I am satisfied with what I did get. Again, the yard was cleared and cleaned completely. To get the equipment closer to the job sites the neighbors allowed the team the use of their driveway for the day. That too was cleared of any evidence that they had been there -- even better than when they arrived!
Summary: Mr. Mitchell and the team are all professional and personable. They do what they say they're going to do when they say they're going to do it. They work as a team with the owner working side by side with them. They are also insured (verified with the insurance company) and that is a huge plus when it comes to my property.
The final question should be: would I hire them again? I hope I don't have to but if I do I wouldn't hesitate to do so.
Service was scheduled but not performed.
Mr. Mitchell called me at 12:59 on 15 May to cancel a job (scheduled for "after lunch") that same day due to a sick employee. I was disappointed because I took time off from work specifically so I could be present to get this service performed. When I called on June 16th to reschedule the work for June 24th, 25th, or 26th (whatever was most convenient for him) he told me he needed at least two weeks notice to schedule the service and could not do it.
I am disappointed because on the day the work was originally scheduled to be performed I got, literally, one minute's notice that it was not going to happen but when I want to reschedule the service I am obliged to accommodate Mr. Mitchell's schedule with no thought to the inconvenience he has already caused me by canceling at the last minute the first time. I understand people get sick and jobs have to be cancelled occasionally but when it happens, every effort should be made to compensate the customer for the cancellation.
10 days should be plenty of time to schedule this and if he really valued the customer he would have made time for this job that he cancelled back in May.
Mitchell's Tree and Stump came to the house on 13 May. My neighbor sent me pictures of their trucks and said they looked very professional. She was impressed. When I arrived home that evening, WOW! It didn't even look like anyone had been to the home, let alone remove any trees but low and behold, they were gone. Like magic! The trees had been cut close to the ground and all debris, branches, leaves, twigs and rocks had been removed. It was amazing and of course so very impressive!!!
Mr. Mitchell called later on that evening to see if all was good and if we were satisfied with the job. Boy was I ever!! I will hire them again in a heart beat and refer them to anyone I possibly can. I can't say enough about how wonderful I think this company and Mr. Mitchell is. Thank You!!!!
