Tech showed up on time and did a good job. No muss, no fuss. I really appreciated the hose they used because I didn't have to take down a section of fence for them to pump it out. We did not know the exact location of the septic tank, so I didn't mind the digging fee.

Clarence was our tech. He was prompt, courteous, and worked very hard. This was the first pump out since we purchased the home and we were unsure of the tank lid location. Clarence took his time and was very patient finding the location. Unfortunately, our tank was buried very deep (almost 5 feet). The extra labor charge for uncovering the lid was a bit high, but the work was hard for one guy with a shovel, so I can't really say much. Appreciated the good service.

These guys are great. I called in the morning around 9:30 and they were at my house by 1 PM. Rob was extremely professional and answered all my questions and provided advice on retrofitting my concrete lid with a newer type that didn't require digging to access the tank. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing this service. Great company, great price.

Our tank is buried 12-15 inches.  Technician arrived on time and was courteous and friendly.  I showed the technician the approx. location to within a few feet.  He poked around and said he located the cover.  The technician needed me to cut away tree branches that were in his way so I did.  I also stayed with him while he dug and held other tree branches for him.  After digging it up, he could not get the cover off and it started to crumble.  He asked me and I told him the door had been off for cleaning several years before so I did not know why it was stuck.  At that point he told me there was another door a few feet away.  Again, I am not an expert so I did not know they had two doors.  The one he dug had never been opened so that's why it was stuck.  Unfortunately, they did not want to dig the other cover (It took about 15-20 minutes to dig the first one).  Instead, they wanted to keep trying the the one they dug and told me that it would probably be destroyed.  I said "no way."
The technician and I both talked on the phone to the owner of the company.  I told the owner I did not want the cement cover destroyed and I needed the other opening to be used since I knew it would come off no problem.  He said, "no."  They had too much work to do to dig another hole but he was still going to charge me a service call despite not emptying the tank. Understanding things just happen sometimes, I told him I would dig the other hole myself, I would refill the old hole, and all they needed to do was hook up the hose (which was ready to go and setting beside the tank).  I also told him I should not pay an extra service charge since I was doing all the new work, my yard was dug up etc., and my tank was not even getting emptied.  The owner of the company said he would not do it and he told his technician just to pack up and leave.  I contacted another company and explained what happened and I needed help that day.  Luckily, the new company squeezed me in.  I dug up the other hole with no problem.  The new company came and emptied the tank quickly and with no problems.
In summary, I told the owner I would do the extra work just to get my tank emptied.  He offered no flexibility to overcome a little issue and instead left me in a jam even though he had a man and his equipment on site and ready to go.
Response from American Tank Cleaning Inc

"FIRST OF ALL, You DID NOT pay A SERVICE CHARGE OR ANY other fees FOR OUR COMPANY TO COME OUT THERE. When you talked to the owner of the company, you were being very difficult and you could not understand why you would have to pay additional charges to have additional work completed. A business would be OUT OF BUSINESS if they did not charge for additional fees. It is not our fault that the concrete lid would get broken or crumble because it is stuck. The tech would do the best he could to not break the lid. ALSO, Concrete DOES NOT LAST FOREVER - you need to get some other kind of material that doesn't break so easily to cover your tank. In your complaint you said that the tank lid had been off before and didn't know why it was stuck and then you say that the door had never been opened and that's why it was stuck. So which is it, had it been opened up before or not? Also, our policy is we only dig one side up to 12" for free. You say your tank was 12" - 15" deep, we should have charged you for a digging charge, BUT WE DIDN'T. Also, It takes time to dig a hole and we were very busy that day and since you did not want to pay for another digging charge anyways (after we had already dug the one hole which we SHOULD HAVE charged you for that), we had to go on to the next job. Our tech had spent more time on your job than what was planned. I guess the other company that came out WOULDN'T have had any problems, since you had already dug up the other side and all the other company had to do is pump it out. The problem was you were trying to get us to dig the other hole, and wanted to complain and wiggle your way out of having to pay for digging the hole and instead of you paying for our tech to dig the other hole, you decided that you would dig the hole and expect our tech to sit there to wait until you got done digging. As the owner said, the tech had other jobs to get to and did not have time to wait for you to dig it up. If you wanted your septic tank pumped, without your concrete lid being broken, you should have dug it up yourself & popped the lid open before we came."

Fit me in the day after I called since it was my day off. "TL" called before arrival, and was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and competent. He quickly located the cap 6" below the surface with a metal detector, dug up only what was necessary, and cleaned up afterwards.

Asked to clear a clogged drainage pipe.  Implied that pumping the tank
would do it but when it did not clear the blockage stated that he could
not snake the necessary pipe without digging up the yard..... totally
misrepresented what his capabilities were!
Response from American Tank Cleaning Inc

"When our technician was there, he offered to dig the incoming side where the clog possibly was, but you did not want to have it dug up. We could have then snaked the line and cleared the blockage. I believe you misunderstood what we said."

I contacted the office late on 9 April to request an emergency response to pump my septic tank due to a major plumbing issue in the house. I talked to Art and explained that I needed someone to respond the next day. He was able to schedule service for 8:30 on the 10th and the work was completed within a hour. I called 3 different vendors and American Tank was the most responsive. Technician was very professional. I used a different vendor several years ago and now will always call American Tank for all my septic system service.
