The technician and I both talked on the phone to the owner of the company. I told the owner I did not want the cement cover destroyed and I needed the other opening to be used since I knew it would come off no problem. He said, "no." They had too much work to do to dig another hole but he was still going to charge me a service call despite not emptying the tank. Understanding things just happen sometimes, I told him I would dig the other hole myself, I would refill the old hole, and all they needed to do was hook up the hose (which was ready to go and setting beside the tank). I also told him I should not pay an extra service charge since I was doing all the new work, my yard was dug up etc., and my tank was not even getting emptied. The owner of the company said he would not do it and he told his technician just to pack up and leave. I contacted another company and explained what happened and I needed help that day. Luckily, the new company squeezed me in. I dug up the other hole with no problem. The new company came and emptied the tank quickly and with no problems.
In summary, I told the owner I would do the extra work just to get my tank emptied. He offered no flexibility to overcome a little issue and instead left me in a jam even though he had a man and his equipment on site and ready to go.
"FIRST OF ALL, You DID NOT pay A SERVICE CHARGE OR ANY other fees FOR OUR COMPANY TO COME OUT THERE. When you talked to the owner of the company, you were being very difficult and you could not understand why you would have to pay additional charges to have additional work completed. A business would be OUT OF BUSINESS if they did not charge for additional fees. It is not our fault that the concrete lid would get broken or crumble because it is stuck. The tech would do the best he could to not break the lid. ALSO, Concrete DOES NOT LAST FOREVER - you need to get some other kind of material that doesn't break so easily to cover your tank. In your complaint you said that the tank lid had been off before and didn't know why it was stuck and then you say that the door had never been opened and that's why it was stuck. So which is it, had it been opened up before or not? Also, our policy is we only dig one side up to 12" for free. You say your tank was 12" - 15" deep, we should have charged you for a digging charge, BUT WE DIDN'T. Also, It takes time to dig a hole and we were very busy that day and since you did not want to pay for another digging charge anyways (after we had already dug the one hole which we SHOULD HAVE charged you for that), we had to go on to the next job. Our tech had spent more time on your job than what was planned. I guess the other company that came out WOULDN'T have had any problems, since you had already dug up the other side and all the other company had to do is pump it out. The problem was you were trying to get us to dig the other hole, and wanted to complain and wiggle your way out of having to pay for digging the hole and instead of you paying for our tech to dig the other hole, you decided that you would dig the hole and expect our tech to sit there to wait until you got done digging. As the owner said, the tech had other jobs to get to and did not have time to wait for you to dig it up. If you wanted your septic tank pumped, without your concrete lid being broken, you should have dug it up yourself & popped the lid open before we came."

True to his word, the truck arrived around 1:30p to perform the service. The truck was very clean and well maintained. The service technician was polite and professional. The service was performed quickly, efficiently and professionally. The service technician inspected my tank and answered all my questions regarding frequency of service, the health of my septic system, and the use of enzymes to stimulate bacteria growth.
This is the second time I have used American Tank Service and I have been impressed both times by their responsive, professionalism and efficient, quality service. I highly recommend them for septic service.

"Thank you for using our services. The price you quoted of $450 in your review is different than what we actually charged you. The price we charged you was $345. The $345 included the pumping and digging to get to the lid of your septic tank which was 28" deep. We normally don't dig over 24" but we give the homeowner the option to dig it up themselves or we will dig it up for an additional price. You opted for our service tech to dig it up. If you have any other concerns, please give us a call at 540-226-3133. Thank you!"
"[Members Name], I looked at our records and could not find your name or address. I believe you have the wrong company. We have never been to the house that you listed. Not sure what company came to your house, but it was not American Tank Cleaning, Inc. The date that you listed that it was done was July 6, which is a Sunday. We normally don't go out on Sundays and we would not normally charge $300 to pump a septic tank in Stafford County. If I am mistaken, please give us a call to discuss further. Thank you, Pam at American Tank Cleaning."

We have used them for nearly 10 years and he said we could save money if we spend the money to put a cylinder around the pipe so they do not have to dig and put lid on it to keep whether and water from draining into the tank and American would charge less each time they had to pump it out. We have referred many clients to him.
My only issue was the price for pump outs after doing all the work to where the pump out pipe was. No price break like he had mentioned but they do great work and the advise they provided was helpful.
"[Members Name], Thank you for your response. The price break that he is referring to, is a digging charge. Because you put a lid on your tank, you won't have to pay additional $ as in the past for a digging charge. In the future, the price will be a straight price with no additional charges. Thank you for using us!"
"(Member name removed), Thank you for your review. We will share your review with the service rep. Please tell all your friends about us! Thank you again for using our company!"
