First, I will say that the price was very competitive, even before I saw the high quality of the work. I had estimates ranging from $1500-$5500 and went with Twin Oak's $2070 because of their good reviews on Angie's List and their responsiveness during the estimate process.
Tree work when done correctly and safely is almost an art, especially a large removal such as this one. I spent the entire day watching the guys remove this large tree and I can say this is one of the best tree crews I've ever witnessed. It was obvious they have been working together for a while and everyone knew their role and was aware of everything going on at all times. This may sound obvious but you would be surprised at how many crews don't operate this way and seem to need constant direction from the foreman. Not the case with these guys!
The climber was actually the foreman, which I think is somewhat rare, but it was obvious he was was VERY experienced. While working in the tree he was constantly pausing and analyzing the tree to figure out the best way to remove all of the limbs safely and efficiently while still giving him room to move around and a place to safely anchor himself in to the tree. You could tell he wasn't just cut cut cut, it was very methodical and analytical.
The main trunk of the tree was 40" but there were three large main branches, each about 24" in diameter, and they ended up roping off just about all of the branches (large and small) , including the ones that were overhanging the house. They managed to get it so the ones over the house would immediately swing way back towards the base of the tree (away from the roof) and only then would they allow it to be lowered to the ground.
The guys also spent an extra hour or so with their largest saws cutting through some very large trunk union sections which would have otherwise been too large for me to even move around, let alone cut with my 18" saw. They also did a few thinner cuts on the 40" section to provide me with some slabs for making a tabletop in the future.

These guys are awesome! We watched a HUGE branch on our silver maple come crashing down onto our car this morning. WIthin 1 hour Curt was there to assess the damage and provide us with a very competitive bid. After accepting the offer, Curt had his crew there and within 2 hours the tree was removed. The guys were able to delicately even remove the tree from above our house and power lines and cleaned up the mess afterwards.
We will definitely use these guys again for all of our tree maintenance!
Thank you Twin Oaks

Unbeatable! I had a very challenging project because the tree, which was a tulip poplar 7 ft in diameter at the base and at least 150 ft tall, was in the backyard, behind a fence and on the property line between my house and the neighbors -- the property was lined with other trees I wanted to keep and there was only a small clearance between the two houses. Curt was fantastic working with me, as I arranged to have the fence temporarily removed, and fitting me into their schedule on limited notice. They did a great job working around all the logistical challenges and were on time and on schedule. As to price, even before the Angie's list coupon, the cost was considerably less than that bid by two other tree companies. I had used Twin Oaks before and was very satisfied but I got the other bids for a price comparison. Next time, I won't bother -- Twin Oaks was far and away the most reasonably priced of the highly rated Angie's companies I checked and they give terrific value for the expense.

They did great work. I like them a lot. They are definitely up-to-date in their research. They came out few days after the quote and very punctual and very professional. The price was very reasonable. I would absolutely use them in the future.

We've used Twin Oak tree care on several occasions. Each time I've gotten at least two estimates and sometime three. They are always a good price and they do a great job. They show up when they say they will and the do a great job both with the work as well as the clean up. I would highly recommend them.

Excellent service - I will use them again.
I called four tree companies requesting estimates on eliminating two telephone-pole sized oak tree limbs overhanging my garage. One company was non-responsive, and Twin Oak was the lowest of the three (880,825 and 800) - but the arborist (Curt Schilling) left me a note explaining that complete removal of the higher limb had a high chance of weakening the tree and giving me a lower price (of 600) if we trimmed the weight off the higher limb. I talked with him on the phone and he explained the location of the limb would make it difficult for the tree to fully heal, and his recommendation was to take off enough weight and the length to minimize future risk to the garage. I agreed, and Curt and his team came out to remove the limbs as described.
The team completed the work quickly, and cleaned up very neatly. They even humored me by cutting the limbs as I desired in order to make log seats for my backyard firepit and path borders in my woods. I will call them first next year when I have the maple in our front lawn pruned back.

After the hiccup of the insurance issue or coming by unapproved/unannounced, the experience went way better than I expeceted. They had a bunch of workers there to move lines out of the way as their climber went about his business; they used ropes to slowly roll down each cut branch. No damage was done to power lines or lawn or roof. The only thing is the grinding of the stump could have been a bit finer (there are still some roots in the area) but considering the savings, I thing I can live with it. Good company, I would use them again.

We started a remodeling project that required pouring 8 feet of concrete in the front of the house. The concrete folks could not finish the job because, as they were digging trenches for the footings, they found a gigantic tree root underground from a holly tree that had been cut down many years ago. Although the stump had been ground down, the root was buried and very large. I called Curt based on a recommendation from a friend. Curt was not available but he responded immediately, sent someone else over, and the problem was solved in just a few hours. The tree stump was removed and the concrete workers got their job done.
We were very lucky to find Twin Oak Tree Care and will absolutely do business with them again. We have dealt with several tree companies in the past. None was as responsive, reasonable, and willing to help as Twin Oak.

Twin Oak did a fantastic job! The owner of the company came out and repeatedly checked in with the construction crew to make sure everything was going smoothly, and they took down the tree without any damage to our house or property at a very reasonable rate. Top notch work! The only tiny complaint was that it took about a month to get on the calendar, but this was at a very busy time of year after a series of storms, and I know they were unusually backlogged at the time.

We had some minor problems with them during the service. The man who came out to give us the estimate said that he would write up a contract following our oral go ahead. We had a contract sent out and had not even signed it when they just showed up. I was out walking my dog and when I returned they were out on my lawn. The work was supposed to be done right before the July Fourth weekend, so the man in charge told the crew what they were supposed to do and left for the long weekend. They did not catch everything that he had told them so they did a bunch of things wrong. After the service I was told that the man in charge would get a hold of me the Monday following the weekend and he did not get a hold of me until Wednesday. When he came out he asked me to show him what they had done wrong and he apologized for the miscommunication. He did not offer a discount or any compensation however. The crew who came out was very nice, but they did not do the work correctly. I was not pleased that the supervisor was not out for the work and was not pleased with their overall service. They had the least expensive price, however I am not sure how fair the price was.
