Jose and his team did an excellent job renovating our walkway to our house and finishing some back steps in our side yard. He put in lovely rails showing excellent taste in the rails. The rails are solid. When we had some work change orders, he was fair and didn't overcharge. Highly recommend him!

I hired Jose Portillo because I had seen his work on another project. He and his men were hard-working, neat, and courteous. Most importantly, he listened to my concerns about HOA requirements, and worked with me to have the best outcome. My front stoop is so well done, that sometimes I open my door simply to admire it! I highly recommend this firm.

Fine. A small area of my brick home required repointing and then painting, to match the existing color. Jose Prudencio (VP of J. Portillo Construction) is very knowledgeable regarding types of mortar for specific situations. Jose and I also discussed the condition of the sill under a window, within the designated work area. Although this was not a major job, he treated it like one and submitted a detailed proposal, which we fine-tuned. I would recommend J. Portillo Construction.

They did a great job and we feel much better about the stability of the columns.

Great job, competitive price, good attitude

My home sits on a very steep slope with serious erosion issues. The team got me on their schedule quickly and had the work done within the agreed upon time and for a reasonable price. The resulting retaining wall is beautiful and they left the surrounding area in better condition than it was in when they started. I couldn't be happier and plan to rehire for other hardscape projects needed in my yard.

They did a great job. The granite stones around our flower beds looks great. Our 30 year old deck looks like new. I would recommend them highly.

JPC refurbished our front porch (masonry/brick work) with great quality and professionalism, so we asked if they'd also replace our deck boards, which were rotting.  We got an immediate estimate, the price seemed reasonable, and - just like that - the work was scheduled.  These guys are professional -- on-time, communicative, and quality/fast workers.  The deck was done in a couple of days, and it looks great!  The boards on our stairs bucked up (breaking the screws).  The JPC workers ran them in a different direction than the originals, and apparently the framework wasn't ready to accommodate that.  We never called back JPC to fix them, but I think they would have done so without issue.  I'll use them again!

We e-mailed J. Portillo Construction and received a very prompt response.  We had no problem arranging for an estimate, which was done promptly and on-time.  The price was much, much cheaper than a "handyman" company had quoted.  The work was done over a two-day period.  They showed up when they said they would, which is always refreshing!  We were really impressed by how well JPC's team integrated the new bricks into the existing structure.  The mortar is currently slightly lighter than the old mortar, but it will presumably discolor (and more closely match the old) over time.  We can always stain it if not.  JPC was in contact from the beginning to the end and even followed up to ensure e were content with the work.  Clean up and all was fantastic.  Very professional, and I highly recommend.

This was a good experience from start to finish.  Jose Prudencio came promptly with his site manager to do the estimate, and they were both very good at answering all my questions and making suggestions for this large project.  The workers came when scheduled.  They took care in shoring up the roof over the front porch as the work progressed to prevent any damage.  The crew were extremely hard workers who did a quality job and thoroughly cleaned up the site upon completion.  The only glitch was they were having phone problems at the office so communication was an issue, but between e-mail and Jose's cell number we did ok. 

They did a high quality work. They were punctual and clean. They cleaned up after themselves very well. I will grade them high on all categories.

Tol them they could use loose brick from a retaining wall to fill in hole since it was the same brick. The chimney was not the same brick, but they decided to tear into the retaining wall to get the brick they needed rather than try to match it themselves. The wall was already messed up, but when they left, the wall was a total mess. Walked all over a ricge vent in the process & lattened a two foot section, but I didn't notice it for two years until I got up on the roof. I wouldn't pay them anything other than the $625 I gave them at the start. While they threatened court action, I held my ground & never heard a word after the initial flurry of telephone calls. Very unpleasant experience. I contacted the Virginia Dept. of Professional Services (I think) and reported what had happened. It turns out they weren't licensed to do anything other than concrete work. Any contract changes should have been made in writing and their contract didn't contain things contracts are required to state. They were fined and required to take some classes. I'm sure they're nice people trying to get ahead. Inexperienced yes. That might have changed. But the way they did business and the way they handled things during the job and particularly afterwards has probably not. People skills and customer service were absolutely lacking. Everybody gets along when things are all right. What comes out when they don't is what you should pay attention to. I wouldn't let these guys even come back to my house if they were working for free to cut my lawn. If you hire these guys and anything doesn't go the way you think it's supposed to, I feel sorry for you.

Very knowledgeable, professional, completed the project in a timely fashion. Prices were average. Workmanship excellent. Jose Prudencio was the project manager. He was very professional, helpful, and very great to deal with.
