The new addition was designed and built, apparently satisfactory, but we have problems from neglectful construction. After completion, we tried to contact the builder to obtain a final accounting. There was no response. Since the addition was completed, many quality issues have arisen. In particular, wood siding on the new addition apparently was not primed and has twisted and warped away from the wall. The kitchen cabinets included a pantry that was not supported on the side. At one point, the wall of the component collapsed outward as we were replacing a shelf that was pulled out for cleaning. We discovered that there were no studs behind the to support the component wall. Deck surface and steps have twisted and nails have pulled out. Attempts to contact the builder led to no response.

Work began on time but did go beyond the projected time line, due in part to weather. Smitty was very willing to work with us on the and quot;alternativeand quot; finish we requested and made helpful suggestions along the way.

I am extremely happy with the high quality of the workmanship, and especially with the professional way they approached the work. Everyone I dealt with was courteous and professional, and superlatively competent. They worked quickly without wasting any time, yet they took time to do things right and to make sure I understood what my choices were.
They gave me an estimate and stuck with it. When it turned out there was more rot than we'd expected, they proposed a reasonable additional amount to repair it, and I accepted.
When it turned out that the work had to be delayed because chimneys needed repair, Highland coordinated with the chimney contractor I chose and made sure the repairs were done right. Even though this necessarily extended the time the job took, Highland did not charge extra.

I strongly recommend Highland Developers.

The end result was beautiful. He is sort of old school. He has done a lot of these and when they did on the computer it came out only 3 feet. We wanted 4 feet so we asked him and he said he would do it. We talked to them and he went down to the county and made them pull our journals and it turned out that it was wrong. We got what we wanted. We got a kitchen plus a front porch. He told us that he had both good and bad news for us. The good news was that we could have a bigger room and the bad news was that it was going to cost us more. We got what we wanted. He went to the county and pulled the paper and I thought that was amazing. I don't know if anybody else would have done that. That was really amazing. All the little things form the experience was great. We loved what he did. Following his advice we have got something that we really love where we can sit down and we can fit in 8 grown ups in our kitchen where earlier 6 was a problem. He kept down the price of the addition and it was handy. They just did the bump out. They did everything to do the drywall. We did the painting and the flooring. We found somebody to do the cabinets. We kept the price at minimum by doing the finishing ourselves. We got to do the things which were expensive and they did the things that they could do really well which we couldn't. It was all working together. They worked with us on all of it. There was good communication in terms of what had to be out of their way and what was going to go on when. We could all make it work out and it was great. I thought we got an amazing deal. It felt like they were family.
